And no- nothing "proven". Most of what's in these memos was already in the public sphere. The role they play is still important, however. They call into question Trump's original explanations (Plural- there were several within the first few hours alone) for why he fired Comey. According to Comey's recounting, Trump was extremely happy with his performance up until he wouldn't get rid of the Flynn investigation. If you were trying to demonstrate corrupt intent in the situation, you would have to demonstrate that the official reasons presented for the firing weren't actually the real reasons. Comey's memos directly contradict the first few explanations (there were several in the first few hours alone) given for the firing. (Before Trump admitted that the Russia investigation was the primary factor)

The Putin/prostitutes story was fascinating though. We know the dossier alleges some tawdry details about some sex workers in Moscow. We also know that, according to Trump's former bodyguard, Trump was actually offered those sex workers. (He also said Trump declined) But now we also know that Putin and Trump were actually talking about how great sex workers in Russia are. Like A LOT of the things going on with Trump and Russia- it's just an odd coincidence that the dossier talks about sex workers in Moscow, and it turns out that actually there WERE sex workers offered to him in Moscow- potentially by Putin himself.

The biggest revelation, though, is flying a bit under the radar in coverage right now.

When was Trump having private conversations with Vladimir Putin where it would have been comfortable enough to start talking about sex workers in Russia? That certainly wouldn't have happened on an official White House line, and it seems VERY unlikely it happened during the semi-secret meeting he had with him last year at G20.

Do you remember early in his campaign, Trump was bragging that he knew Putin personally?

And then all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he started saying he's never met the guy in his life?

I always found that to be really odd. Just like it's odd that he and Putin apparently had a conversation that was private enough that he felt comfortable talking about sex workers with him- especially given we know that in 2013 he was actually offered sex workers at his hotel. That at least opens the possibility that this meeting happened before the election and right around the time the dossier alleges Russia got kompromat on Trump.

I agree that they're nowhere near as high in raw numbers as PC post rates, but PC has a broader topic set of discussions that people are posting on. Based on metrics available from our admin console, clicks and posts have been high. If you were to removed politics or the MacGyver topics on these forums, I'd estimate they're at approximately 80% of PC's post rates.

President Donald Trump questioned the judgment of his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, according to memos written by former FBI Director James Comey that were published Thursday evening.

And some of Trump's ire at Flynn came from the White House's delay in responding to a congratulatory phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Comey's account of Trump's story, Trump was giving a toast to UK Prime Minister Theresa May and explained she had been the first to congratulate him after he won the presidency. However, Flynn interrupted Trump to inform him that another world leader had called first.

The identity of the leader who first called Trump was redacted in the memo. However, people familiar with the situation said it was Putin, according to a Wall Street Journal report on Thursday.


Flynn said a return call to that leader was scheduled. But Trump appeared to have been irritated by the delay.

"Flynn said the return call was scheduled for Saturday, which prompted a heated reply from the President that six days was not an appropriate period of time to return a call from the [redacted] of a country like [redacted]," Comey wrote of Trump's account of conversation.

"This isn't [redacted] we are talking about," Trump said, according to Comey.

"In telling the story, the President pointed his fingers at his head and said 'the guy has serious judgment issues,'" Comey said in the memo.

For what may be the first time ever- the fact that Trump was talking about Putin may actually be a good thing for him. If Trump knew that Flynn was under investigation for and still tried to make that investigation go away- that makes the corrupt intent argument stronger. That fact that it was about Putin doesn't directly bolster the claim that he was not acting with corrupt intent, but if he had been talking about Flynn's legal transgressions, it would have been worse- legally speaking.

First- it was Donald Trump who likely leaked that information as it was reported that he left that meeting with Rosenstein and immediately told people that he wasn't a target. There weren't many people in that room, and Mueller's team doesn't leak. So...grain of salt.

Secondly, DoJ guidelines don't allow for the indictment of a sitting President. And a target is defined as someone they have enough evidence on to bring criminal charges against. So there's actually a very good chance that DoJ policy means Trump can't be a target. As a reminder, Nixon was an unindicted co-conspirator after Watergate because the DoJ didn't believe they could bring criminal charges against him. So he was never actually a target either.

But you know what? It's entirely plausible that they genuinely don't see enough evidence to determine that he engaged in obstruction of justice or conspiracy. But you don't know that at this point, and there is an extraordinary amount of damning evidence just in the public domain alone.
