I’m sometimes a night owl and can hear that damn hamster wheel spinning from her room. Anyways, she was very distraught and said she misses it like a daughter. I explained animals are not the same as humans when it comes to that, and hamsters have a short lifespan. I tried also being empathetic and we had a little pet burial ceremony in the side yard.

All of this is to say people that say they love their pets (dogs, cats, whatever) like a person just don’t know the difference unless you have children. It’s not their fault…to them it feels like it would be the same because they simply can’t understand until you do. My wife felt like our dog was her baby until we had kids.

First of all, in Russia, grandparents do in fact, take care of the kids, so I guess Vance supports us becoming like Russia?
Next, no states require 6 years of college education, to work in a day care. Finally, saying grandparents need to watch their grandkids, isn’t an answer to how can we lower the cost of daycare.

I can’t speak to your mother-in-law’s qualifications, but I can say with near absolute certainty the she cares about the general wellbeing of your child more than any hired daycare worker would. It’s human nature for people to love their own family.

I think you don’t understand why, grandparents watch the grandkids, it’s not by choice, it’s due to the economic aspect of it. Most Russians can’t afford their own homes, and property is passed down, they live together because they have no choice. The pension system in Russia is roughly $200 a month. Caring for their wellbeing, while it’s very important, it’s not the only thing. Most grandparents aren’t physically fit to actually watch a toddler, most don’t even know what to do. It’s also human nature to care for other people.

Do local YMCA's no longer do weekend overnights for kids? I remember going to those - you'd get dropped off around 4-5 on a Friday, and get picked up 1-2 on a Saturday. The cost is all based on location and what people are willing to pay. Some places are shittier than others for the cost and if you want to know, MN is outright fucking awful with childcare costs. Over 10 years ago when my 4 year old daughter and infant son were at childcare (no, we didn't have an option for grandparents to watch them like some of you retards on here are crying about) cost us nearly $28k for the year. Because we "made too much money" we didn't fall into the "you're poor as fuck" category to get state assistance for day care costs. I'd hate to see what the costs are now.

I'd see a couple of Mexican and Somalian moms dropping off 4/5/6 kids every morning.....they'd arrive in their shitty, rusted vans with doors practically rusted so bad they're barely hanging on. I was wondering how the hell they could afford to have that many kids in daycare because we were barely getting by with just two. Come to find out; the wife was friends with one of the day care teachers and she said those families are all on state assistance, they practically pay nothing out of pocket and here we are getting raked over the coals to pay for daycare costs.

The wife found out that the teacher (her friend) only made about $20 an hour, she had gone to post education for childcare/teaching. The main reason she accepted the job was she only had to pay 1/2 the cost to have her kids there, otherwise she'd seek employment at a school for better pay (which she did once her kids were school age and didn't need day care). The people they hired that didn't have much post education for childcare or experience started around $12 an hour. The facility director was paid around $60k a year. There was always 1 person that had a full post secondary school for each area and 1-2 non-post secondary personnel - except for the infant rooms, you needed proper post secondary schooling to work those rooms.

The facility had 2 rooms for infants and there were generally 12-16 infants at all times. That was 3-4 people watching them and at $330 a week for an infant meant $17160 a year per infant; the place had to easily pull in nearly $300K+ a year just on infants alone. Once they hit toddler age it was $300 a week, preschool age was $280 a week and any other kid older was $240 a week. Part time kids (school aged that were watched in the mornings before school and in the afternoons after school was out) varied by how many days, but it was $150 for a full week.

The place, between infants and fulltime preschool kids always had 50+ fulltime kids. Part time kids varied, but usually a few dozen. The place made bank off of parents and the state. I know this because the owner of the location would stop in at least once a week in their bright yellow Porsche 911. The place was always busy, people were paying it or the state was paying it - if people are paying the asking price then that's what it is and in MN it is expensive as hell.

People always would tell me that the cost of formula/food and diapers cost so much for newborns....fucking liars. The daycare is what costs so much. Over the course of all the years we paid into daycare it was easily $120K+. Kids are fucking expensive if you don't have family/friends to help carry the burden. This is, in my opinion, the number one reason a reasonably educated person will decided if they want to have kids or not, if they can afford to. The cost of everything now being 30%+ what it was 4 years ago makes having kids even harder now for those that can understand the costs of doing so. If my wife and I were just starting out today we wouldn't be able to afford having kids in daycare because of the cost of living increases.

I guess I am kind of jealous. My parents moved 500+ miles away from my grands so I maybe saw them for a week in the summer about once every couple of years or so. My grandfathers died before I was born. I was robbed.

That said, you have to keep an eye on grands watching your kids, my dad, before he passed, used to say "Grandbabies are the best, you can love on them, play with them, spoil them and then hype them up on sugar and caffeine and give them back."

All that said, assuming that family is obligated, is fucked up, if they want to do it, then it's a great boon. The word explicitly… by definition: stated clearly and in detail, leaving no room for confusion or doubt.
Shows otherwise, that Vance indeed heard it from Trump himself, and there is absolutely no confusion or doubt about what Trump would do.

I know what happened. Vance was asked if Trump would veto a national abortion ban. Vance tried to dodge the question by saying that Trump was not in favor of a national abortion ban. Trump had said so explicitly. But the interviewer pressed. Van then said if a President is not in favor of something then, logically, the President would veto it. That was not clear enough, so the interviewer pressed again. Finally, Vance, probably putting together his prior statements, said Trump would veto it and Trump had said so explicitly. The interviewer than said she did not believe Trump had ever said so explicitly in public and asked Vance if Trump had said so to Vance in private. Vance then pivoted to a slightly different issue and never answered the last question about whether or not Trump has said in private to Vance that Trump would veto an abortion ban. Vance also never retracted his statement that Trump had explicitly said Trump would veto an abortion ban.

Republicans are at it again, this time DeSantis has created new abstinence sex education requirements that try and minimalize safe sex and contraception.

‘Emphasize abstinence’ in sex ed, Florida tells schools, skip lessons on contraception


Florida has told school districts around the state that they may not teach teenagers about contraception, show them pictures depicting human reproductive anatomy or discuss topics such as sexual consent and domestic violence, according to district officials and an advocate for comprehensive sexual health education.

As a result, Orange County Public Schools plans to scrap its own high school sex education plans and instead use a state-approved textbook that focuses on abstinence. The district’s now-abandoned plans, outlined in a nearly 600-page document it provided to the Orlando Sentinel, stress abstinence for teenagers but also provide information on how pregnancy occurs, the pros and cons of various birth control methods, what consent means and ways to handle pressure to be sexually active.

Broward schools now plan to comply with state requirements and “emphasize abstinence” in their lessons, the district said in an emailed statement Friday.

Karen Castor Dentel, a member of the Orange County School Board, said the state’s instructions mean students will glean information from their phones and their friends rather than reputable sources.

“I think it’s utterly ridiculous and is a continuation with the state’s obsession with sex and denying our students fact-based information about their bodies, how they work,” Castor Dentel said. “I think it’s a disservice to this generation, but it’s consistent with what is coming out of Tallahassee these days.”
