As an investor, I cringed at the press release from Mnuchin. Fucking awful.

Obviously the market felt the same today.

Someone made a gofundme for ladders to get over the wall. Then someone made a gofundme for landmines to prevent the ladders from reaching the wall. What a fun time to be alive.

I guess shovels to get under the landmines and wall are next?

Get ready for some serious stagflation too.

At this point, if you don't realize that this Presidency is nothing but a giant dumpster fire then you're not paying attention.

That's terrific.

Tell us more about Aka men breastfeeding and $5m a month WoW servers though. That's much more entertaining. And our entertainment is why you're here, whether you realize it or not.

So a Democrat in the house has already introduced a bill to do away with the Electoral College, citing that IT'S NOT FAIR!!! that Hillary lost in 2016.

No, this is not a joke, that was his actual reasoning.

Democrats lost the election by the rules that have been in place since our country's founding, but IT'S NOT FAIR!!! We should change the rules so Democrats win more often.

I say we go by how many counties each candidate wins. In that case Trump won 85% of the counties. Honestly I pulled up this fact as a joke but now that I'm looking at it it really does prove WHY we need the Electoral College. Hillary won 15% of the counties but "won" the popular vote? That is absolutely insane. Hillary also won something like 80% of the richest counties in the US. So you really want a few large, rich counties to decide who becomes the president of the US? Are you all insane? I'm talking to you specifically, Back.

You bet your ass. One person, one vote.

The electoral college and Senate reps were set up during this nation's infancy. Those rules do not apply any more. There are 12 million more registered democrats than republicans in this democracy. The minority party has had the executive even after losing the total popular vote. The minority party, supposedly of less government, has also had both parts of Congress at the same time. If people are afraid of New York and California running things it's because their platform sucks, not because one person, one vote is flawed.

If people are afraid of New York and California running things it's because their platform sucks, not because one person, one vote is flawed.

The electoral college is outdated and unnecessary, but so are physical polling stations, and so is the way we vote. If it's being overhauled, and it may eventually, it needs to happen all at once. If it's safe to trust every person's income and taxes to the internet, it should be safe to securely vote. As safe and probably safer than our current system of "oh the vote is close, look! I found this box of votes for X person in my car's trunk. I just plum forgot to count these.". We also need to federally implement ranked choice voting in order to do away with "wasted" votes.

For example, in the 2016 election, when you consider that 2 million votes went to Jill Stein and 5 million votes went to Gary Johnson, if you take those candidates out of the race, say, going down the list to people's rank 2 choices, 2016's election was basically a dead heat. Stein's votes largely go to Hillary, Johnson's votes largely go to Trump. No ifs ands or buts.

So yeah, get rid of the electoral college. It's unnecessary, but implement ranked choice voting and secure online voting while you're at it. Take potentially corrupt people out of the mix at polling stations, and make getting to the vote more accessible for everyone. Plus, everybody's looking for more ways to keep libraries relevant. One of the big things people do at libraries is access the internet these days. I think something like 20% of the US doesn't have steady internet access. But their local library does.

I don't know what you mean with him by not applying, but I'm gonna use it as a springboard to mention why I dislike the electoral college.

Candidates write off a bunch of states as sure wins or losses, and then focus in on swing states. That morphs the race into this big ball of bullshit where the candidates absolutely must champion causes important to those specific states, not the nation as a whole. If you're courting people, not swing states, you're championing causes important to a wider base. Don't get me wrong, you're still pandering, and that's not going to stop ever, but why is every presidential candidate talking to me specifically about what Florida wants to hear? Shouldn't you be talking about what the greater portion of the nation wants to hear? This lasts all the way through the first election and first term, because hey, you've got to please Florida again in four years. Can't do anything that might upset them, even if it's for the betterment of the nation on the whole. That's half of every presidency, sat fretting over and pandering to a small percentage of swing states.

Australia's been using ranked choice voting for 100 years now. I think that's where the idea came from. It works really well. The only opposition to it is party-based. The parties have no incentive to implement a system that would allow independents and small parties into the mix in any meaningful way. If you're not familiar, the way it works is this.

Candidate 1: Hillary Clinton (Tastycrat)
Candidate 2: Donald Trump (Fingerlican)
Candidate 3: Gary Johnson (Libertarian)

3. Jill Stein

When the votes are tallied, they take all the Gary Johnson votes, tally them up. If Gary has no chance of winning, all the Gary Johnson voters get bumped down the list to their next choice, so in the above case, your vote goes to Donald Trump. If Donald Trump has no chance of winning, it moves down the list and now you've voted for Jill Stein. If Jill Stein has no chance of winning, you've abstained because you didn't put Hillary on the list.

That way you can safely vote for an independent, a small party, a whatever without thinking your vote will go to waste because if it doesn't pan out, your vote goes to your next choice. My state uses it now as of this last election. I'm hoping more states adopt it and it catches on nationally.

I dunno. I'm sure there would be plenty of backlash and vitriol about it while people adjusted, but I'd bet (I'm not gonna bother to look it up) people had the same things to say about filing your taxes over the internet. Now 90% of people e-file, and those contain every piece of information you'd give voting, plus all your financial information. It's safe and secure, and people got used to it.

Don't forget that "the highest levels of government" is comprised of people who spent the first 30-40 years of their lives without computers. The generation that grew up in a household that has always had computers as part of their everyday life is turning 30. They pay their bills online. They file their taxes online. They bank online. They apply for jobs online. Hell, a lot of the applications I get come from people's damn phones. I know this because autocorrect frequently changes the word Penquis to Penis on applications I get. Voting takes an ID and a vague idea of who you'd like to vote for. We have much more stringent and critical systems online already. We're ready for online voting.

I mean, if you think about it, if that was going to happen, it already could be happening. 90% of people are e-filing taxes already, so more than enough info can be stolen in order for someone to file an absentee ballot for you long before you get to the polls to place your vote. Heck, in some states it'd be enough for a cashier at 7-11 to snap a picture of your license when he cards you then mail in a ballot. A high voter turnout is what, 50%? That means right off the bat there's a 50/50 chance you'd never even know someone cast a vote in your name.

I say for the transition period, leave polling stations open, let people who want to vote that way vote that way. Like taxes, it'll start with a minority and very quickly move to a majority voting online once people become comfortable with it. If such a widespread fraud network existed to get Gushing Granny into the presidency, there are more than enough loopholes in the current system for it to happen. I'd argue that trusting partisan individuals with boxes of ballots is more damaging and open to fraud than any potential abuse of a secure online system.

It absolutely already is happening, it's just that what's going on isn't on a large enough scale that it directly destabilizes our democracy. A cashier stealing someone's info is just one person, and it's more likely than not being done for financial gain not election tampering. Equifax exposed ~150 million users' personal data last year. Imagine if instead of personal data it was voting records, or even the ability to vote. That election cycle would be an absolute shitstorm.

That's a good argument against it. Companies do lose information to leaks all the time, and that's problematic. Making people's votes public would be devastating. But you'd think something like that also would've happened with the IRS database with all the e-filing or a big bank with everyone's financial records, liquidity, investments, etc, by now too, so maybe it's just a matter of the right security. That's information that nefarious parties absolutely would have an interest in, so why hasn't it happened?

I don't buy the widespread attack and fraud theory, from either foreign or domestic sources. That stuff could be put together in the current system if such an entity were so inclined. Preventing that isn't much harder than the two step authentication most sites are starting to require now. Cast your vote, great. Don't have your specific cell phone on you to confirm that the vote was cast by you? No dice. Go find a physical polling station.

At any rate, I think it's coming eventually, one way or the other. It might take all the pre-computer people dying off before it starts being looked at as a reality, but we already have our country's entire economy virtual at this point. If the banks aren't getting hacked and the stock market isn't crashing by the efforts of nefarious Ruskies or terrorists bent on America's destruction, I doubt anyone has the ability to do it. Edit to add: And don't even get me started on the disaffected teens you just mentioned. Why aren't they hacking the banks to put money in their accounts so they can buy more ..whatever...skinny jeans and goth eyeliner? Because things like Equifax are mostly financial crime. It's easier for a criminal to just sit on the info and make fraudulent credit card applications rather than put together some kind of blackmail folder.

I disagree that it could be done now. In my state (AZ) you can vote in person or mail-in. So either our Russian friends need to pull an Invasion of the Body Snatchers and replace the surly Boomers at hundreds of polling stations, or they commit widespread mail fraud, both of which I imagine are virtually impossible to do without being noticed.

You don't need to hack into a website to shut something down. I mentioned them mostly because of the DDoS attacks they do. Trump is floating the idea of using the military version of eminent domain to seize private land along the border for the wall. I bet the Federalist Society is going to looove this idea.

Wait.. does 2016 Androidpk like the idea?

What about 2019 Androidpk?

If Obama was President now and wanted to do this, would 2019 Androidpk be for or against it?

Oh, are you talking about the dissolving the electoral college thing? The post you quoted was about ranked choice voting. That's why I'm confused. Anyway if that's what you're talking about, yeah, about 100 million people in those four states, one of which is heavily catered to now because it's deeply divided, but if you're only hoping to get a voter turnout from 100 million out of 330 million people, that's...not enough people to get you to win. You'll have to court ideas and issues adopted you know...widely...instead of in just a few specific states. That's the system we're in now, where you write off tons of states as won or lost already so you don't even bother.

"One person, one vote" IS flawed. I just demonstrated why in the post you quoted. You're okay with fewer than 15% of the counties, almost all of which happen to be the richest counties, deciding who becomes president? You do know this is the main reason why France is on fire at the moment right? Because the French elite elected a globalist who only cared about the rich and wanted to ignore and tax the shit out of the more rural areas of France. This is why each state gets so many House members and Senators, to ensure each part of the country is represented and the large and powerful cities don't run the entire country. Look, Back, my man. You can be dumb all you want, that's the beauty of living in the US. But at least try to put forth an argument into your own words and stop repeating buzz words you hear on MSNBC such as "one person, one vote."

FPTP/winner-take-all voting is balls, though.

Our Electoral College isn't really winner-take-all though, that's just the system most states decided to go with.

Dunno how you figure that. IIRC there are only two states that split the electoral vote, and whoever makes 270 wins. I may as well have not voted in my state for all the good it did me.

What I mean is each state can decide how they divvy up their electoral votes. There is nothing stopping California from awarding their votes based on the popular vote in California, like for example if the Democrat wins 60% of the popular vote they get 60% of the electoral votes.

Ultimately it would be better for representation if they did. Republicans would pick up about 1/3 of CA's electoral votes, Democrats would pick up about 2/5 of TX. Of course, if you go that far you might as well just get rid of the electoral system entirely...

Not necessarily. A state like Wyoming with its small population represents only about .17% of the entire US' population, whereas their electoral votes make up almost .6% of all electoral votes because there is a minimum number of electoral votes each state can have. It's not much but smaller states have slightly more sway in the electoral college system compared to a straight up popular vote.

Plus I like the idea that each state can decide how to divvy up their electoral votes, all the federal government decides is how much each state gets by trying to be as fair as possible.

That's what I'm getting at. Smaller states deserve fair representation, but that's what their congressmen are for, and they are all done via popular vote.

His next post on 8-5-2017:

Again a direct reply to time4fun with Androidpk pointing out she doesn't care about Democrats accepting foreign money, only when Trump does it.

As far as I can tell his transformation is complete before this point because he is fully in Trump Derangement Syndrome mode 24/7 from this point on.

So what was THE POST? As far as I can tell it was the following two posts in the same thread, both taking place on 8-10-2017:

In the first segment, starting around the 29 second mark, Chris is like hey we already have a barrier along parts of the border and the president is saying we need more of that exact same kind of barrier. The funny part is when he's saying "There is already a barrier down there" the two on the left (mostly the woman) are nodding their heads in agreement thinking Chris is gonna say something like "There is already barrier there! We don't need a wall!" but as soon as he says "There is already a barrier system along the border, they need more" and suddenly the head nodding stops.

In the second segment Don Lemon and Chris are talking about Trump's at the time upcoming national address, and Don Lemon is like "Hey we should put Trump's speech on a delay", implying he wants to censor parts of Trump's speech if CNN decides it's "fake news" or some such shit. Chris is like "You cray cray?" He then goes on to shit all over the left's narrative saying Trump has the right to address the American people directly regarding border security and saying that wanting barriers along the border isn't propaganda, isn't immoral, and isn't wrong.

I wonder if Chris has finally had enough of CNN just being in business to trash Trump 24/7.

Everyday that passes in the shutdown Trump’s poll numbers drop, Pelosi ain’t giving till Trump hit’s 0%. And yes, even his base is starting to crack.

Put the fake news down! Trump's poll numbers actually went up for a few days after the government shutdown then started going down. Right now according to RCP his approval numbers are down .5% compared to when the shutdown started. It's too early to tell if this is just normal fluctuation or if this is having a real impact on his approval rating.

https://www.kusi.com/cnn-requests-kusi-for-local-view-on-the-border-declines-our-reporter-after-finding-out-wall-works/

This story is hilarious. CNN apparently asked this local news station in San Diego if they would be willing to have one of their reporters on CNN to discuss the border wall in San Diego. The station said they offered up one of their reporters who has done research on this very subject recently, including multiple interviews with border patrol agents who say the wall works. The station said they don't see the wall itself as an issue and believe it works, their only problem is with how migrants are treated at the border. Once they informed CNN of this stance CNN said they were no longer interested.

Can we all please just stop referring to CNN as news now? I hereby decree that anyone who links to a CNN article as a source to backup their statements should be mocked and ridiculed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0t6ENu1Bj3w

Starting around the 3 minute mark.

Trump: Good job yesterday, I appreciate your sales pitch.
Acosta: I didn't see any danger at the border, Mr. President.
Trump: That's because we had a wall.
Acosta: Actually there were portions that didn't have a wall.
Trump: Some people are dumb.

"Actually there were portions that didn't have a wall." THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT, YOU ABSOLUTE MORON. Also the border is thousands of miles long and there are 24 hours in a day, 365 days in a year. This guy visits one part of the border (the part with a wall mind you), and didn't notice a bunch of immigrants trying to illegally come here for the 5 minutes he was there and he decides this proves that there is no crisis at the border.

This guy. He must just read the top comments on his twitter feed that is filled with people who kiss his ass all day because all he does is complain about Trump and now he thinks everything he says is smart.

I was just thinking, as I tend to do sometimes, about how when the economy was booming and the stock market was soaring the far left was saying "Thanks, Obama!" and not in a sarcastic way.

Then when the economy started to slow a little bit and the stock market dipped for a week or two these same far left lunatics were screaming that the world was ending and Trump was personally destroying our economy.

Then when the economy and stock market started to pick up again suddenly they had nothing to say about the economy and stock market.

Guess they played their hand a little too quickly there, can't very well go back to saying "Thanks, Obama!" after you gave Trump all credit for the economy and stock market.

Let this be a lesson to all of you raving far leftists; don't be so quick to blame Trump for something you previously gave a Democrat credit for.

Eh, it's a muddled analogy to be sure, but a lot of Republicans supported the Heritage plan in the 90s, and that was similar to both Romney's plan and the Affordable Care Act. Either way, the point is that the party line divisions are ridiculous, changing opinions like flipping a coin based on what they're told by their party leadership instead of their voters.

A CNN analyst called out a Fox News contributor for his white privilege. He’s black.

CNN legal analyst Areva Martin thought she was talking to a white man Tuesday while appearing as a guest on David Webb’s SiriusXM radio show.

When Webb, a frequent Fox News contributor and host on Fox Nation, said he considered his qualifications more important than his skin color when applying to jobs in journalism, Martin accused him of exercising white privilege.

But there’s a problem with that sentiment, as Webb quickly pointed out:

“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should’ve been better prepped,” he responded. “I’m black.”

The best part is he said her comment was insulting, and she assumed he said that because she assumed he was white, so she says "I would like to apologize, I thought you were white." And he replies with something like "It's insulting that you assumed my race had anything to do with my qualifications at all."

But there’s a problem with that sentiment, as Webb quickly pointed out:

“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should’ve been better prepped,” he responded. “I’m black.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/arts-entertainment/2019/01/15/cnn-analyst-called-out-fox-news-contributor-his-white-privilege-hes-black/?utm_term=.36631ef57744

He then proceeds to demolish her.

Then she was like "It's because they gave me the wrong information!"

Right.

"Here's the info on the person you'll be speaking with. His name is David Webb, and he's white. Now go get em!"

They're just doing what the Republicans did last election. The debates should be fun to watch.

If you mean Tulsi Gabbard, probably. But she is the only candidate that is bangable. Not to mention she is one of the few democrats that has actually said she wants to work with Trump.

Ah, n/m, you mean Gillibrand. Gillibrand is going to be annihilated.

Ugh. My very, very liberal cousin from California mentioned the stupid fast food banquet thing on Facebook in a rage today, and I couldn't help but laugh. I'm not gonna post a screenshot because obviously, but here's his quote, copy and pasted, that he linked with the article:

"Only the lowest class of idiot would even consider it. Was it an insult? If so, only the lowest class of idiot, would do this. If it wasn't an insult, I can't even fathom why someone would do it. A national championship college team, wins 15 games in a season, 0 losses. Gets invited to the White House as an honor(?)
And gets served THIS?
Is there a reasonable explanation?
Let's see if anyone bites... literally."

Edit to add: Bonus points because the comments were replied to with much of the same, including by one relatively famous B list actress and one porn star!

Edit again to add: Hahahaha. Okay the comments on it paid off. Enjoy this little gem:
