I'm a big believer that clothing shouldn't be pin-worn and that each respective article should be on that body part. I saw this girl walkin around Teras with 5 pairs of gloves on and all I thought was - she must have udders.

A paper hat is kinda cool, if you think about it. However, the battle mage has way too many containers, and as Spungirl pointed out, the neck should have prolly have one major item. In a pinch, you may use a crystal amulet in the landing, but everywhere else it is not needed ( with sign of thought, down with voln ).

Obviously you have to use common sense and think about it a little bit. Chainmail, for one, is very ringy so easily seen through ... it only takes the simplest knowledge of what armor looks like to know what to wear, if anything, under it. Platemail armor, I wouldn't ever expect someone to not wear clothes under... cold or warm metal on the skin? no thanks... but, another thing to note, is that since a lot of the armor does do a fully body coverage, you won't be seeing what's under them anyway. a 'look' at someone should show what you see, not every little hidden aspect. why else would tattoos that are covered by armor be hidden?

Sure, you may have an argument there if the layering system for clothing had come out yet... but it hasn't. This is why people get away with wearing 12 pairs of gloves, and we can see all 12. Maybe LOOK shouldn't show everything worn, but... it does. Just another aspect of the world we game in.

Also, please remember that this is the opinion of someone mainly concerned with the way an outfit is "presented." People who don't care about that shouldn't mind that I can't see their pants.

No, not necessarily. He's already wearing leathers, which I would assume would be, at the least, some sort of vest-like torso covering. What kind of protection would these leathers offer if they didn't cover something of their traditional intent? If they were arm guards, then they would say so; or likewise with leather leg guards, leather shoulderpads... etc. This is why I take the visuals Simu offers us with their art as a reference, otherwise I'd have no real in-game reference as to what the damned thing covers =P Other than any shows it may (most likely not) have.

I always wanted my rogue to have access to a rogue only cman, like 'Armor Weakness' or something.
Only available to short weapons like dagger based or maybe even arrows and bolts. The manouver would have your blade/arrow find its way through a 'chink' in the armor and cause a critical wound to the area targeted.
Neck shots being the hardest to make a successfull strike and limbs the easiest.
The last few posts reminded of how much it'd be cool for a groin shot. ;)

Caught within a silver cage, the sapphire's pure hue rivals the deep blue sea and sparkles brilliantly from within the twining argent metal. Fan: Fanciful engravings swirl along the vaalin blades, linked by a length of satin of sapphire hue. Subtle tone-on-tone embroidery races over the material, the stitching's fine gloss becoming distinguished as it catches the light.

Ring (personal crest): Time has worn away much of the finer details of the engravings upon the ring, but the crest that crowns it remains sharp and clear. Cloisonne enamel brings color to the crest, that of a ruby rose blooming upon an opened black fan.

Okay so i was browsing through the officials and saw this byrnie and DROOLED, Dex. I seriously :heart: that design. That's such a unique, sexy and well..just hot design. Makes me jealous of your creativity as I'd never have thought to use something like that. And this is why I ask you for advice on my armor alterations. :yes:

Spectacles:
Crafted from richly hued bloodwood, the spectacles are fashioned with narrow frames which end in slender caps at the earpieces. A small, yet extensively detailed, image of a modwir tree is etched upon the flat of each endcap. The glass discs themselves are tinted a darker shade to provide for coverage against sunlight.

Cloak ( newly altered consolation cloak from Jolena < thanks!! > :
A layer of raw silk lines the interior of the elegant cloak from the deeply-cowled hood to the floor-length hem. Tailored for a large frame, the cloak is comprised of supple, impeccably brushed twilight silver suede with ebony stitching along the seams. Two narrow pleats adorn the middle of the seam across the back to give the garment flare and a row of silver-set obsidian buttons fasten the cloak from mid-chest to hem.

Tunic ( recently posted elsewhere ) :
Thick ebon silk cording delineates the seams, hem and open v-shaped neck of this loosely fitted raw linen tunic. The smoky grey hue of the unprocessed fabric is offset strikingly by the trim and a leather-thong carved obsidian toggle at the neckline, which is left open to expose the sternum of the wearer. Designed to rest at the hips, the tunic features small slits on each side for ease of movement.

The centerpiece, a pure white moonstone, stands out like a perfect oval of ice surrounded by fiery sylvarraend ruby crescents.
There appears to be something written on it.

The straps are designed to criss-cross up the foot of the wearer and wind around the ankle, where there is enough ribbon to tie a finishing bow. On the upper sole of each sandal, a white tag has been sewn in that reads, "A Naessi Original Design."

I know they've been seen before, but they're probably my favorite item I've ever done. Evar!

She is wearing a black-tinged crimson vapor barrier, a cabochon-set steel marriage torc, a pair of long black kidskin gloves, an enameled steel signet ring, a square-necked gown with a bodice of black kidskin and a skirt of trailing raw silk, an enameled steel reliquary, and some soft kidskin ankleboots.

I may have shown some of these before, I've lost track. The gloves are off the shelf. The torc is an attuned wedding jewelry piece. The boots and dress are alters I had made around '96. The reliquary and signet were made on Wavedancer runs. The barrier is altered sonic armor, because after the last time Sadryne went to a religious gathering, she doesn't attend anything Lornon related without armor anymore.

Torc
The torc is designed to encircle the neck and hang loosely with its opening to the front. The ends of the slender steel band are capped with plugs of shining jet, each set with a tiny cabochon garnet.

Signet
A gold-rimmed face of sapphire enamel inlaid with a peacock pavonated is set atop the steel band of the signet ring. A flourish of nine stylized crimson flames crown the nacreous bird, which sits above a sanguine coda and black tree. A tiny chalice of gold is set left flanking, while the right flanking spot is conspicuously blank.

Reliquary
The small steel box has a red glaesine lid, and four enameled sides. Each colorful panel shows a different view of the same high, craggy peak -- a mountain surrounded by winged drakes, a mountain capped with a minaret-spired palace, a mountain bathed in the glow of a blood-red moon, and a mountain from a far off and distant view.

Ankleboots
They are soled with toughened black leather laid over a thin layer of wood; offering both a comfortable and practical manner in which to cover the feet. The seams are laid to the inside of the ankle, and are double stiched with fine thread and held closed with tiny steel hooks. A small stamp on the bottom of the right boot reads: Size 4.

Barrier
Rising and falling, the armor shifts with an apparent burning liquidity. The rapidly moving surface trills colorfully, pulsing from crimson flames to black, and moves up and down to the tune of an invisible score. Brief notes of steely grey punctuate the defensive melody.

Wisps of silk have been used for the lacing in the back and are threaded through intricate crystal grommets.

Flame red rope wraps five times at the bottom of the corset ending above a slim knee-length skirt of layered flame red and pale gold silk veils.

A cloisonne lily clasp draws the pelisse together at the natural waist, catching the many layers of sheer chiffon before allowing them to fall in graceful repose to the ankle-length hem. Translucent silver threading wends languidly over the garment's edge, nearly lost against the deep, smoky hue of the gauzy silk. A heavier sable silk lines the interior, providing weight to the ethereal garment.

Anklet: (amulet holder made by Liralis)
Black as a moonless midnight sky, the perfectly sculpted obsidian beads are strung together on a narrow polished silver anklet. Each delicate bead is heavily lacquered and a tiny pewter wisp-of-smoke charm dangles from the middle to accent the ankle.
*Note* No, Jolena is not an Ivasian and this piece is not meant to indicate it. I just like the smoke charm and the way it fits with the other items, so I made it work. :p

This stunning gown has intricate detail from top to bottom. It is composed of the finest silk in all the lands and hued a soft blue reminiscent of a cold winter. Wrapped about the shoulders is elegant pure white puma fur dusted with glittering crushed diamonds. About the waist is a beautiful sash that dips to form a V which trails downward and splits the skirt to form an elegant train following it's wearer.

Four-in-one links of matte black vultite chain are strung together to create this piece. The sleeves taper down to a point, with the last link enlarged in order to be slipped over the finger, so that the mail does not slide down when the arm is raised. There is little decoration, save for a wash of thin sterling plate across the surface. The silver contrasts against the dark flat surface of the vultite, mimicking shadows and highlights that one would see walking through a forest during a full moon.

Show on the Cincher:
Made from pristine white silk, the panels of this cincher are embroidered with a pattern of interlocking faint silver circles. Designed to fit tightly below the bust and keep a rigid hourglass form to just above the hip, the front and back of the piece is boned with well-polished silver to force good posture on it's wearer. Delicate yet strong white satin ribbons lace the panels together through carved dreamstone gromets lined down the back.


The Cloak is an alteration, the bliaut made with a dressmaker on the WD, slippers and flower from a playershop, and the earrings are spell-imbedded ones from Anfelt. It's different from her usual wear but good for the tea party, given those are known to be exceptionally girly events.

The stylized scorpion tattoo spreads over her entire back, a glistening deep black color just barely distinguishable against the darkness of her skin. The wicked-looking pincers positioned over her shoulders and the sharp stinger at her tailbone have been rendered in a complex knotwork style, giving them a fiery appearance.

Choker:
Strung on a thin, crudely braided sinew cord is a long line of sharp, yellowed crocodile teeth. Each tooth is unusually large and long, attesting to the size of the beast that once owned them.

Tube:
Simple in its design, a long thigh bone has been cut and hollowed, then thoroughly cleaned and bleached. Blood-red velvet lines the tube to protect and cushion the scrolls. A thin leather thong is tied around the femur to allow it to be fastened to the wearer's belt.

Evenly spaced dots of a deep indigo form intricate lines criss crossing sharply across the bronze skin, forming a permanent garrote around her neck. Vertical dotted lines splay outward from the each point of intersection, extending down to just grace the collarbone.

You glance at your longsword. The sinuous body of a copper asp doubles back upon itself, its tight coils forming the hilt, pommel, and crossguard of the weapon. Beset by pointed silver fangs, a cambered black ora blade extends from the Luukosian beast's open maw. Angular runes of varying sizes and styles grace the surface of the asp in such a way as to form a scale pattern. At first glance their arrangement seems to lack rhyme or reason, but a second look reveals that the same three runes always align. The black ora longsword is shrouded in swirling shadows from top to bottom and no amount of light seems to be able to penetrate the gloom.

Crafted of natural, undyed linen, this shirt displays the characteristic cream, ecru and tan colors of the fibers, spotted here and there with darker threads of mahogany brown and cinder grey. Constructed to fit the wearer loosely, the shirt could be slipped over a full suit of leathers and still provide freedom of movement.

You pull your loose linen shirt aside, momentarily revealing the leather strip armor beneath.

Thin strips of pale taupe leather have been wound closely around and across each other, forming a rigid binding. The tightly strapped binding increases the protection afforded by the thin leather while not adding to its burden, serving to keep the wearer safe from harm by way of sword or sun. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

I like this piece because she's not supposed to be overly feminine. The close binding under the shirt makes her look more neutral. Wrapping up the girls and all.

You see your bracelet. This ovular bangle is a single pocked and yellowed vertebra from the backbone of a large pack animal, possibly that of a yierka. Extending from the bangle, the bony protrusions have been worn down around the edges from time or use. The middle hollow is the perfect size and shape to allow passage for a slender hand.

A bracer of mithril frames the bottom edge of either glove before disappearing underneath, evidently running along the underside to form a protruding skeletal frame beneath the thin lizard skin. The green-tinted glossy black gloves give way just before the fingertips, yielding to sharply curving mithril claws that extend out to dangerous points.

I've set an alias so when I point, I point with the claws. Scurrry!

The armor is my bard's old stuff. I was going to sell it, but the image of a monk of Ronan kicking a punching in spiked plated mail was a good one. The foot-wraps I found on playershops.com about a year ago and bought them for like 500k:

The knee-length wraps are tailored from supple grey suede, the soles stiffened by extended travel through the underbrush. Wrapped tightly about the feet and legs of the wearer, they leave just the toes and heels exposed. The outer cuff and the inside of the wraps are lined with a soft grey wolf fur, providing for both quiet and swift movement.

Rest is all off the shelf stuff.

A circular clasp has been fashioned from a polished sunstone and is used to secure the garment at the back in a gathered knot.

Soft, flawlessly dyed black suede makes up this longcoat, with burnished silver buttons running from its high stiff collar to the calf-length hem. The garment is only fastened from the collar to the top of the waist, though, allowing it to flare back dramatically.

Necklet:
Each of the many thumbnail-sized garnets glitters like a drop of fresh blood held in a sharp-taloned setting of red-gold. The necklet is designed to hang close to the base of the wearer's throat, ringing it completely around with jewels before fastening in the back with a simple hook-and-eye clasp.

The billowing sleeves have been embellished with intricate cutwork, elegantly displaying the burnished silk lining that shows through the unusual pattern. A length of the same golden silk, tipped with aiglets of vivid peridot, lace the garment snugly up the front.

Corset: Soft panther fur arcs downward, elongating the corset's slender silhouette and lending a faint shimmer to the piece. Delicate silver embroidery serves to draw the eye to the low-cut neckline and slim, pointed waistline, while accenting each beautifully.

Ring: Time has worn away much of the finer details of the engravings upon the ring, but the crest that crowns it remains sharp and clear. Cloisonne enamel brings color to the crest, that of a ruby rose blooming upon an opened black fan.

Boots: Finely buffed to a matte finish, the leather provides an elegant backdrop to the glossy onyx swept across the surface. Sleek rolaren heels extend the silhouette of each shoe, the black metal likewise gracing the elegantly pointed toes.

This tiny basket has been woven with wires of imflass making it both light and shiny. Padding of pure white rolton fur is partially covered with soft brown deer skin on the straps and back of the basket. Several items can be seen, but not identified, through the top of the mesh, but the mesh tightens up as it gets closer to the bottom of the basket.

A pair of red silk-wrapped black fel scabbards hangs from the leather belt. The supple leather is dyed a black and lightly abraised, leaving its surface dull. Thin eahnor plates are evenly spaced along its length, each bearing the same etched line pattern. A pair of crossed sais is etched into the surface of the belt's steel buckle.

The legs of the pants have been treated with oil and look to be quite supple, lending to easy flexibility despite the heavy construction. Stiff, fire hardened leather protect the wearer's feet from all but the most determined rock on the outside, while the inside is padded with a thick cotton lining. A polished vultite cap protects the wearer's toes, while thick black bootstraps provide an easy grip for pulling on the boots.

Heh, we've actually been through this before. I don't like putting things on that I view as "under" the chain and, as I recall, you think it makes sense. The doublet is actually backpack worn, I just can't see someone who is supposed to be a noble lugging a backpack around. If I didn't need the storage space I wouldn't wear it at all (cloak holds nothing, surcoat is VLA pinworn).

a fielded white surcoat-
The white knight's surcoat seems to be well worn, and very old. The coat-of-arms appear to have been replaced many times by different hands. Prominently featured, an argent sparrowhawk soars over the per fess on field of sable. Beneath, a fireleaf tree sprouts from a vert field. Below the waist the surcoat has an open split and is cinched neatly by a black woolen belt.

Forged of a heavy steel alloy, these bracers clasp shut with a wrought iron axe-shaped buckle. Crimson runes have been etched into every surface and intertwined with inlaid orange spessartine garnets.


some burnished sunset-gold chainmail-
The links of this suit are a deep saturated gold, looking closely at them some links have been dyed a reddish hue. Lightly burnished into the metal of the rings is the image of a sparrowhawk, wings spread in flight. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.



a small chevalier's pouch-
This type of pouch, worn by many northern knights, is designed to keep certain essentials at the ready but otherwise stay out of the way.



And this is the ring I was considering.
a rhimar signet ring-
You see your ring. Cast of white-flecked frost blue rhimar, this heavy, masculine ring has an inner lining of softly knapped suede. The suede insulates the wearer's finger from the freezing effects of the rhimar. Raised from the surface of the ring to form the seal is a sparrowhawk, wings extended in flight.

It is surrounded by a scintillating light.




As you probably tell I like shorter shows, walls of show text are just as bad as tons of items on people IMO. For instance I just gave some basic guidelines for the ring to the merchant (suede, sparrowhawk, rhimar) but if I had done it I would have eliminated a sentence most likely.

Corset: Gold graces the corset's low neckline, softly accenting the wearer's frame and ensconcing richly hued cat's-eye stones. The elegant decoration descends the busk and wraps about the slender waist to frame the gold silk lacing at the back.

Ring: Finely polished eahnor keeps its natural crimson hue, worked into an intricate filigree to snare a detailed crest contained within. Inlaid onyx and ruby form the crest, that of a blooming rose upon an open fan.

Choker:
Fiery red glimaerstones dot the eahnor cable at evenly spaced intervals, set perfectly flush with the surface of the deep carmine metal as to blend in both hue and texture. Beginning just behind the ear, the cable spirals downward to complete a full circle near half dozen times before the camber changes course. The eahnor wire curls in the opposite direction to encircle a perfectly spherical scarlet despanal, its heft balancing the height of the piece.

Corset:
Thin strips of onyx run from bust to waist, pulling the panels of smooth dark silk taught at the midriff for a slimming effect. The silk makes way for sheer black lace paneling at the sides, the design flaunting an intricate scene of roses in various stages of bloom. Small black vaalin hooks link the smooth silk to the lace at either side, harmonizing with the glimpses of vaalin that accent the garden scene. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

Velvety petals of deep purple can be glimpsed from behind the silver ribbons, as well as the very occasional hints of buttery gold at the hearts of the caged irises. A tiny filigreed silver clasp binds the choker, inscribed with delicate lettering in a flowing script. The cloth-of-silver choker has 19 things woven into it, among which you see many purple irises.

Clutch:
Snow white hand-tatted lace stretches across the surface of this small pale grey bag, the design reminiscent of smoke whirling in plumes and eddies. A loop of twisted silk in the same misty hue serves as a handle, attached to the handbag using a series of small vaalin hooks. The loop could be removed easily, rendering the clutch versatile for both day and evening use.

The gown is 4x robe armor. The rose was a gift from an admirer as a momento for their visit one night to the Veythorne Manor grounds. On either side of the sash is a loop to hold a weapon in place while keeping each prominently displayed and within reach. Dual lengths of lightweight linen have been lined with a thin layer of golden silk to provide for a striking color contrast in this garment. Designed to wrap tightly around the chest, the colors of the fabric vary from a dark russet to the hue of a golden sunset. A circular clasp has been fashioned from a polished sunstone and is used to secure the garment at the back in a gathered knot.

loincloth:
Lengths of dark russet silk are belted by folded golden silk with a trio of copper scales fashioned into a multi-layered crescent adorning the front. Amber beaded strands of gold cording drape between the front and back panels of the loincloth, and dangling golden amber beads alternate with a half-inch golden silk fringe around the hem.

This is the show on the ring, it's a poison holder.
Delicately crafted from pure crimson eahnor, the band of this small ring is shaped to look like a serpent's body, complete with scale etchings. The body makes a complete loop connecting at the top to a viper head rising up onto the face of the ring, protruding out with its maw wide open and fangs extended to appear as if piercing a small, blooming rose cameo. Two tiny, glittering pieces of despanel are set as eyes for the head, as well as a tiny shard at the end of one fang, imitating a poisonous droplet.

Everything else is off-the-shelf (mostly from Anfelt) and the kit holds Issi's throwing daggers.

The long sleeves have been embroidered along the seams which are designed to rest upon the middle of the hand delicately in a strobilated fashion. Three small silk-covered oval clasps are placed evenly from the deeply plunged neckline to the lace-edged hem. A thin panel of ivory silk has been sewn from the bottom left point of the neckline to the right for added color.

You look closely at Jolena, examining an ankle-length layered ivory skirt. Dual layers of ivory silk fall in overlapping folds in a zigzagged design, with several knee-length slits at the hem for ease of movement. Cyan-dyed satin lines the inside of the outer layer of silk to add a flare of color and the low-slung waistline is secured with a small silver rose-shaped clasp. Designed to fit closely upon the hips and thighs, the skirt flares from the knees to hem when worn.

You look closely at Jolena, examining some braided ivory silk sandals. Lengths of ivory silk are braided together and criss-crossed over each other for the footwear, while leaving a single silk loop for the toe. Thin soles of sanded mistwood are covered in a layer of the same silk for padding and comfort, and the low-heel offers a subtle accent to the ankle of the wearer.

And just cause I love this ring and haven't shown it in a long time:
You look closely at Jolena, examining a ruby red eahnor wedding ring. Expertly wrought, the band of this ring is molded to resemble a leaf-like pattern in all the hues of an autumn sunset. Tapping into almost every shade to be found in a flame, from the deepest crimson to the fairest orange, each delicate leaf has been shaded and highlighted with meticulous care. The fiery display winds its way up to a flawless white moonstone, melding itself perfectly into the band as though the ice-like stone supports, rather than battles, the fiery band.

The talons are designed to fit snugly over each and every finger, cunningly segmented and jointed to preserve ease of movement. Cast in dark sanguine eahnor, elaborate etched swirls coruscate sinuously across the surface of the metal. The sharp, faintly curved tip of each talon is blackened tellingly.

Forgot to add that the robes are the armor-concealing type.

Each of the many thumbnail-sized garnets glitters like a drop of fresh blood held in a sharp-taloned setting of red-gold. The necklet is designed to hang close to the base of the wearer's throat, ringing it completely around with jewels before fastening in the back with a simple hook-and-eye clasp.

It's hard to organize every outfit around the snake, I've found, so I let it go occasionally. This is one of those times. Of course, she would not dream of leaving Sinsuviel at home now that she's found him.

Ring: Finely polished eahnor keeps its natural crimson hue, worked into an intricate filigree to snare a detailed crest contained within. Inlaid onyx and ruby form the crest, that of a blooming rose upon an open fan.

She has a crescent moon tattoo on her neck, and a blooming moonflower tattoo on her waist.

She is wearing a flared caramel silk cloak edged with thick lion fur along the high collar, a misty cream-hued silk blouse, a thin copper wristlet inlaid with half-moon bloodstones, a ruby red eahnor wedding ring, a two-toned golden sienna satchel, some fitted caramel leather pants, and some dark suede boots settled atop slender bloodwood heels.
