She is wearing an elegant black pearl crane-etched hair-ornament, a delicate black silk wrap, a flowing onyx marbrinus kirtle with vaalin-caged pearls tipping the sleeves, a smooth vaalin signet ring and some slender black leather poulaines.

Mask: Trailing a twining rivulet down the center of the mask's forehead, a vaalin knotwork design unfurls into an ethereal web, barely visible from a distance. Snaring silken threads form six slender wings, three fanning out to each side, the finely spun vaalin's patterns and soft iridescence resemble nothing so much as the veins of dragonfly wings and appear nearly as delicate. The gossamer filaments trail backwards to blend with the wearer's hair or drape down the sides of the mask.

Ring: Time has worn away much of the finer details of the engravings upon the ring, but the crest that crowns it remains sharp and clear. Cloisonne enamel brings color to the crest, that of a ruby rose blooming upon an opened black fan.

Poulaines: Fluid lines trace the seams of each shoe, highlighted by fine teardrop piercework. Low heels of glossy ebon mithglin extend the silhouette, further accentuating the tapering pointed toes.

A cotehardie was made to be worn by a male and a female, and the styles of the garment were different for each, even if subtly. So yes, it is a form of a dress, however for the genre that GSIV is based in, a male wearing a cotehardie is very fitting.

Ring:
Pale ivory coraesine shot through with graceful flowing grey lines forms a thin filigree band. Set in one filigree curl is a glittering bloodjewel, dark and red as its namesake, with a fine carving in its faceted surface. The intaglio is a dainty rose in full bloom engulfed in stylized flames.

Set onto the face of the band in a pure platinum setting rests a marquise-cut lilac glimaerstone, the band sculpted around the gem so it remains slightly elevated. Twin channels of rounded pearlescent moonstone stud the band on either end of the face, every movement radiating faint silvery light.

Earrings:
Crafted of glimmering bloodjewels, the earrings are swept with jagged, angular patterns of black steel, the intricate setting tracing a labyrinthine pattern across the flawless scarlet facets of the jewel. Encased within the very heart of the jewel is a single rose petal, its pure ivory hues stained a deep crimson by the innumerable incarnadine facets of the bloodjewel.

Case:
The heavy set folio is bound at the spine with a thin length of pale silvery haon, supporting the shape. Dark carmine silk is attached and folded over the cover and back of the case; tiny white vaalorn rivulets keeping the smooth material in place. The center of the cover is painted with ivory ink depicting an exquisitely detailed hawthorn blossom. A wreathe of oval leaves encompasses the flower, their shape appearing almost like veined teardrops.

Ring (was a present from the greatest cousin in Nalfein history and it's awesomely actioned!):
The smoothly carved ivory band sends pallid vine-like tendrils curling over the edges of the bloodjewel rose, impaling the bloom with minute, sharp thorns. Translucent red at the edge of each perfectly realized petal, the bloodjewel's hue darkens to near-black at the heart of the rose, contrasting sharply against the creamy white of the ivory setting. True to its name, the jewel glistens like a drop of blood, vividly realistic in aspect.

I really love the earrings and folio. That ring is very nice as well, but the other two are my favorites. Makes me almost wish Jolena went back to her crimson and ivory days.

Dark-stained crocodile skin has been polished and oiled to a glossy finish, glistening over the natural ridges of the hide. An interlocking circle of silver filigree clasps the case shut at the top, hiding a lining of exceptionally plush black velvet. A line of matching silver hooks serves to attach the whole to a belt.

This pelisse has been fashioned from fine black foxfur that has been treated to give it a rich sheen. The inside of the robes have been lined with deep ruched silk. Cut to be long on the arms, the deep sleeves are pulled low enough to cover the wrist of most wearers. At the neck of the pelisse sits a fine vaalin clasp cut in the image of a small fox that has eyes made of fine marquis-cut deep crimson garnet.

I would remove the feather and at least one of the bracelets. If you are going to incorporate the azure leather gloves, then I would try to incorporate something similar to the hue elsewhere in your outfit as well. I like the robe, I have one myself, but I think that you are missing the ability to do something really striking with the outfit, by settling with the silver, pale spidersilk and white theme.

Just my two cents.

The body makes a complete loop connecting at the top to a viper head rising up onto the face of the ring, protruding out with its maw wide open and fangs extended to appear as if piercing a small, blooming rose cameo. Two tiny, glittering pieces of despanel are set as eyes for the head, as well as a tiny shard at the end of one fang, imitating a poisonous droplet.

show on wristlets: Scintillating bloodjewels have been flawlessly linked together to create a trio of slender wristlets. Each teardrop-shaped stone is tinted a translucent red along the edge, darkening to near black at the core.

The show on that corset touches on one of my big pet peeves. Alterations should be written so that either worn or not, they make logical sense as to what you can see and not see. This means that if you can't see something when it's worn, you shouldn't write it into the description. (It's the reverse of standard policy, which says that you can't write body parts into alterations, because when they're off the body, they don't make sense.) So how do I know, when you're wearing that corset, that *inside* is silver boning. I might be able to tell that it's boned, in general, but how do I tell that it's silver?

Don't take it personally, you're far from the only one I've seen who does it.

I can comment on this, due to a long conversation I remember having in the WD chat with Dex and many others.

In a show, information like that is ok. You wouldn't normally see the show, so it's safe to assume that if you inspected or if someone SHOWED you, the person was moving and that made it possible.

For instance-- the boning could peak out the top, or while that character was showing off her corset, she could be moving to allow the person looking to see that particular feature.

This is the same way that in shows, stockings can be thigh-highs, but it's better to make it more obscure in the tap. This way, when you show someone your stockings, they can pretend your character lifted their skirts or something to better demonstrate that.

Beyond that, there's a certain suspension of belief that comes with everything in the game. If the tap is appropriate, then I see nothing wrong with more indepth shows displaying what you wouldn't normally see at a moments glance.

I'll agree with you that the show should reveal more detail than the tap. That's fine.

For a corset, however, in my opinion the only way I'm going to see inside of it to tell the color of the boning is if it's removed from a person's body. It's a corset, it's tight. The fact that it's tight and that it hugs the body is what keeps it from falling down or off altogether. Unless it's falling off, or falling down, I'm not going to see the boning.

Like I said before though, this is a general pet peeve of mine, and goes beyond clothing. It's an opinion.

Reliquary, torc and ring have been shown before. The gown is...so hideous that I love it. It even has a typo. It was a gift received around 96/97, and though I've toyed with the idea of fixing it, I can't bear to change it.

gown: Dyed a deep crimson hue, the gown flows like a waterfall and is fashioned to pool at the ankles, resembling spilled blood. A high collar edged with tiny black diamonds reflects an ebony light from within their sharply cut facets. The crushed-velvet bodice is tightly cinched with teardrop-shaped black diamond buttons traveling down the back the gown and along the fitted sleeves. The finished edge of the cathedral-length train is embroidered with an ancient prayer to the Dark Gods.

Hairsticks:
Ten handspan-sized crow feathers glisten in shades of deep blue-black, each smoothed down slightly at the tips of the quills to slide into the hair to hold and tame the locks easily. A thin thread of black wire winds through the quills, binding them together in a half-moon fan shape almost invisibly. The shape is designed to frame the wearer's face in a halo of feathers.

Choker:
A wide band of linked glistening obsidian tiles forms the collar portion of the piece, fastened in the back with a platinum hook-and-chain clasp. Suspended from the lower edge of the choker is a pale glowbark leaf, perfectly preserved with a thin layer of clear lacquer. The delicate tracery of veins across the leaf's surface provides a dark contrast to its ghostly radiance.

The choker commemorates the impromptu show Lord Veythorne gave of the Lighting of the Glowbark.

Bliaut: Finely pleated copper silk of a faintly iridescent sheen makes up most of this bliaut. Golden silk edges the neckline before descending down the front and winding about the garment's waist, smoothing the silhouette. Shimmering, couched gold leaves swirl over the garment as if caught on a breeze, collecting at the hem of the skirt and bell sleeves.

Made of smooth silver, the body of this cylindrical case features a filigree-hooked length-wise flap as the only opening. Lining the inside of the bottom is a strip of thick white velvet, stopping just short of a latch securing the opening of a seperated compartment large enough to hold a few cubes of ice. A square silver plate etched with a blooming rose is affixed to one flat side next to a fettered end of the soft pale black suede shoulder strap.

To Ilvane:

A few things I'd change myself, is I'd get rid of those hairsticks. They're platinum and you already have a bunch of other metal names, so it just makes it confusing/non-cohesive. Maybe some of the ebony hand-painted ones would work instead? I'd also look into getting a piece of amethyst jewelry instead of the sunstone (like Dex said) and I'd also look into ditching the stockings. Generally, if a character isn't wearing shoes (slippers, or shoes, or sandals) but boots, I know I always imagine the skirt to be short, since that's the only way I could see the stockings. Kind of makes for a strange mental image, heh! Of course, that's sort of just a weird quirk of mine, so take it with a grain of salt.

Beyond those little things, I like it.

trousers: Airy chiffon dyed a pale, almost translucent grey is lined with a layer of sage satin to give the fabric a multi-hued appearance. Loose by design, the garment falls elegantly from the low-slung waist which features a built-in braided white satin belt. The tapered pant legs tie around the outside of the ankle with removable thin strips of satin ribbon.

A high-collared ivory chainsil jacket: Dual slits grace either side to create a flare against the hips and a small pleat embellishes the back. Featuring dark sage stitching along the seams, the jacket is embroidered with a blended pattern of modwir leaves in translucent threading upon the collar. Three silver looped frog-clasps adorn the linen from the middle of the chest to just above the hip-length hem.

This was my very first alteration...since Raidek's backhistory was in the Faendryl military. Then after I got betrayed by Faendryl a few months ago, Raidek slashed the cloak.

Because you can't look at something and know the intent behind something on it, ESPECIALLY things like slashes.

My human would likely look at a Faendryl wearing a cloak with a Faendryl crest on the back, see the slashes and think, "Oh, he must have been slashed in battle or in thorns."

She wouldn't be like, OH those slashes are intended to disgrace house faendryl!

Beyond that, I'm not a whole fan of the warcloak thing. I still don't know the difference between a warcloak and a normal cloak. It goes in with my "Show- don't tell policy" of clothing alterations.

However, I do think that the difference between a warcloak and a cloak should be pretty obvious to others because in my opinion, the style of a 'warcloak' is different than the style of a 'cloak'. It is made differently in my mind's eye.


To me it's like a Ranger's Hat and a normal hat. I don't see any difference and I'm yet to see a warcloak description that really differentiate's it from any other cloak (i.e. describing something to allow for armor movement, I dunno, something like that). Of course, everybody is different.

Another problem with just saying an "emblem of Ta'Faendryl" is that there are two emblems.. the Old one, and the New one. Usually, I assume it's the newer but it *could* be the older.

In response to Aphyd-- I watch anime but I prefer to leave the anime stuff out of Gemstone, also not everyone watches anime, nor is Elanthia the same world as Naruto's. It's why I hate the people who dress up as cats and actually use ACT'S to wag their fake tails.. and act like furries. >.<

I like the idea of your alter, I just think there's better ways to word things to make them more descriptive and effective. One thing I've always loved about alters like the one you have is that, had you left off the part about the slashes, it would have made an excellent conversation topic to anyone who saw it. My Faendryl has a bloodied handkerchief stitched with wavecrests, with a small hole and a blood smear around that hole on it.. It doesn't explicitly say It was shot by a Faendryl arrow and is embroidered with Ashrim crests, but anyone she showed the handkerchief to, she could explain and it was a good way to generate some roleplay.. people usually reacted quite violently to her amusement over it.

corset: Serviceable, inexpensive linen dyed a delicate sky blue hue is lined with a thin layer of ivory cotton. A row of silver grommets are placed at the back from top to hem, threaded with narrow, ivory suede cording, and capped with turquoise beads.

case: Finely grained mistwood, sanded to a smooth perfection, is lacquered heavily to protect the naturally light wood from the elements. A lining of bleached cotton protects its contents and a rounded, teardrop-etched shard of ora serves as the clasp.

Cotehardie (pinworn dagger hider): Delicate eahnor threads spiral with incarnadine silk filaments, melding together to form a shimmering gown, light in weight and fluid in motion. Underlaying the garment, deep scarlet marbrinus serves to aid the wearer's comfort and contrast the brilliant crimson metal, while dragon's-tear ruby buttons run up the sleeves and down the back to the trailing hem.

Ring: Finely polished eahnor keeps its natural crimson hue, worked into an intricate filigree to snare a detailed crest contained within. Inlaid onyx and ruby form the crest, that of a blooming rose upon an open fan.

Poulaines: Fluid lines trace the seams of each shoe, highlighted by fine teardrop piercework. Low heels of glossy ebon mithglin extend the silhouette, further accentuating the tapering pointed toes.

The vivid reddish gold of the golvern is only enhanced by the contrast with the paler yellow gold inlaid in flowing streaks across the ring's surface. There is a faint pattern to the striations that gives the ring a fiery appearance, making it look like a neverending loop of flames.

Numerous pieces of variegated coral have been inset into the wide band of this bracelet. Their carefully carved shapes resemble leaping flames, all dancing their way toward the center. I changed my girl up a bit, trying to set up a new outfit for her now in a different colour to change her around sometimes.

I really love the dress and bracelet, but I think that you should consider storing some of your items when you are not hunting. So many items in your inventory really detracts from the overall appearance, in my opinion. Its the old cliche' "Less is More", heh.

I would recommend storing the pin, the leathers and either the gem pouch or the scroll case (or both ideally), perhaps store your satchel as well, when you are not hunting.

Choker (was a gift) : Three short strands of pearls are cleanly set next to each other in a fine choker. Both the top and bottom strands showcase smooth blued pearls, where each rounded gem is the soft, hazy color of the morning sky. Smaller, more delicate white pearls, the hue of sea foam, form the middle strand.

Jacket: Silver frog-clasps secure the garment from just under the high collar to the short-waisted hem, which is designed to end just above the navel of the wearer. Short, bloused sleeves and a lining of soft butter cream silk add a feminine flare to the apparel.
