Don't they virtually all have queues at first? I can't say whether they initially reduce the number of people allowed in after a release or it's just due to an assload of people coming back to play, but even my shitty server has queues at expansion time.

So a guildmate turned me on to this website for doing cross-realm PuG raids of old content. It seems pretty good, if you want to get achievments, legendaries (shadowmourne, etc) done.

It seems like an awesome thing and I'm definitely going to start pugging Firelands on my spriest to do my legendary.

Basically shifted every mana burn, shifted every chain, jumped every desecrate, pushed my heals with cat stun, bear stun, cyclone, proactive root/kite, pressured with full cyclone into tree form for dpsing, etc.

It wasnt things we had never seen before...just executed at a level that was mind boggling. Like when Wayne says shifted burns what he means is shifted over 50 of them, perfectly timed while continuing to heal and kite flawlessly. So he would shift to bear for the single millisecond the burn was coming then shift back to human root Wayne and shift to cat without every slowing down.

We recently added account-level changes to achievements in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, and there’s still a lot of work left before we’re done. The plan here is to illustrate the intent behind our design, which should in turn help you figure out the answers to many of your questions.

Overall, we never want you to play Character A instead of Character B because of achievement concerns. If Character A had the Violet Proto-Drake, then you might not play Character B. If Character A was only one holiday away from the Violet Proto-Drake, then you may not play Character B. If Character A had completed most of the raid achievements from Dragon Soul, you may not want to bring Character B for one fight and miss out on the achievement. Having alts is cool and working on achievements is cool, but we don’t want the two systems to work against each other.

This goal is paramount and drives everything else. If we allowed you to earn extra achievement points from completing an achievement on two different characters, then you might only want to play the character with the most points and you’d feel like you had to grind through all the achievements with every alt, thus defeating the purpose of having account-level achievements.

Most achievements are account-wide

This means you only earn the points once. If you have earned an achievement on one character, you can see it on all your characters. However, and this is important, you will still see the achievement toast (the pop-up notification) if a second or subsequent character completes the achievement. We think it’s still important to recognize milestones like reaching level 80, maxing out a profession, or killing a raid boss for the first time. It's fun to have everyone congratulate you when you get the toast. Nonetheless, this will just be a new character of yours completing the achievement that you’ve already earned on your account. You won’t double up on points.

Most criteria are not account-wide

If you start an achievement on one character, you can't then finish the achievement on another (there are exceptions, so please keep reading). We didn't think it made sense for one character to get level 60 and another to get level 20 and then see the "level 80" achievement toast. If you start to explore Thousand Needles on one character, you’ll probably want to finish that achievement on the same character.

Some achievements are "meta achievements."

These are achievements that require you to get other specific achievements. An infamous example is "What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been." These achievements generally ARE account-wide. If one character earned Noble Gardener and another character earned The Flame Warden, then your account would get Long Strange Trip. (Otherwise it would be weird: it would look as if you had the sub-achievements, but you wouldn't have the meta-achievement). Even though you need Explore Thousand Needles on one character, all of your characters can contribute to Explore Kalimdor.

A very few achievements are account-only.

There are two categories of account-only achievements. One is achievements that are not possible to earn on one character. If we made an achievement to level every class to level 90, it would be account-only. (I'm not sure we will, but it's a good example.) The other category are achievements that are just brutal to complete on one character (and you’d never want to do for multiples), such as 2500 daily quests or 250K honorable kills. In these cases, the cumulative work of all your characters on those criteria will count.

We hope that rewards granted from achievements (pets, mounts, titles, and tabards) will be shared at the account level.

I'm not going to promise this yet, because a lot of magic has to happen for that to work, but it's our intent. We have discussed having a character level requirement for some rewards, so that your level-2 gnome couldn’t walk around with the “Defender of a Shattered World” title just because your level-90 shaman earned it. If the gnome made it to level 80, though, you could proudly show off your title. You also won’t be able to use a faction-specific pet, mount, or title on the wrong faction. The achievement wouldn’t go away -- you just wouldn’t be able to show it off on that character. There are probably additional exceptions and details we’ll find as we dig deeper into the system.

This is the kind of system that will evolve over time, and we don’t think this has to be the way achievements work forever. As beta players start experimenting with it and offering feedback, I am certain that we will end up making even more changes.

Gear and skill with that character are pretty much the only things that will determine a main anymore - and am I "vastly better" on Dora because I'm just innately better at ret than anything else, or because I like it that way? I've always avoided looking too far into how to play other classes because I didn't want to open something up that would lead to throwing away all I've done on Dora. That isn't a problem anymore. I may still keep Dora as my "main" because I like being good at stuff, but if I decide to get good at shadow or resto druid or something else, it wouldn't be a big deal anymore to sideline the pally.

One of the people I transferred was conveniently my mage, who has already collected a few of the embers or whatever they're called for the legendary. It wouldn't even interfere with the ones Thomas needs for his boomkin (if he even has that spec anymore).

It takes about 10 minutes. You kill one of the big stone trash guys, and it auto-gives you a quest. Go talk to whats-his-name the gold dragon on a pedestal in caverns of time, and poof. You can collect things.

I think I already have that quest cause I cleared bastion and descent when it was current so I dont even have to do that. The first stage of collection I dont think the difficulty matters though. You need to get like 30 things to make an orb and it takes 3 weeks then your allowed to collect cinders I thought.

Bastion and Descent don't count. The trash mob you need to kill is in the Firelands instance. You need to collect 25 Eternal Embers, which drop off Firelands bosses (always in heroic, sometimes in normal) and buy 3 Sands of Time (vendor). Then you go do some stuff, come back, and the raid needs to help you kill an extra boss in Firelands that's only accessible for this quest. Then you go do more stuff, and when you come back, you can start collecting Seething Cinders (also off Firelands bosses, but don't interfere with Embers - so once you're on this stage, someone else can start the Embers).

Cool. According to wowwiki if you have killed cho'gall or nefarion or Al'Akir you can skip the first 3 quests and go straight to embers from a quest a guy in Orgimmar gives you. Ill find out in about 3 hours when I leave work whether thats true.

Either way it seems like a release date for Pandas of September+ is likely...so yah I think im gonna go for the staff...plenty of time left.

It'll make leveling an alt on a pvp realm pretty heinous probably, but a good first step I think in addressing some population concerns.

On a slightly more serious note, though, this cross-realm zone thing sounds REALLY shitty. If I were to discount the fact that I feel things like this make it easier for people to decide to be jackasses, I still don't want people from other servers infesting my zones. Hell, when I'm leveling, the last thing I care about is the zone feeling "more full and alive". I want my targets to be sitting around waiting for me when I arrive and I want my resource nodes left untouched. They're all MINE!

Ya know, it seems like it would better solve the problem by merging some realms. If they were to do that, they wouldn't have to spend all the time working on the various cross-realm technologies. I was talking to Drew about this last night. There's one thing I just don't get. I know it's funny to harass me about pvp and all, but why would you actually want me to do arena with you? I don't just die all the time because I have no gear - I die because I'm bad at this. Most of the useful pvp buttons aren't even on my bars right now. They never have been. Because I've never used them, I never think to use them. I'll be 80% through a stun and then say "Oh hey, I could trinket this," or I'll be kited around like an asshole until I'm mostly dead before I realize that I have a button called Hand of Freedom. It's not gear - I'm just plain bad, and I get worse when I'm frustrated. Why are you so eager to carry a scrub on your team?

I don't just die all the time because I have no gear - I die because I'm bad at this. Most of the useful pvp buttons aren't even on my bars right now. They never have been. Because I've never used them, I never think to use them. I'll be 80% through a stun and then say "Oh hey, I could trinket this," or I'll be kited around like an asshole until I'm mostly dead before I realize that I have a button called Hand of Freedom. It's not gear - I'm just plain bad, and I get worse when I'm frustrated. Why are you so eager to carry a scrub on your team?

1) We're not pushing for titles or anything. FFS I think out of all of our arena teams we've got maybe 1 that's a real viable comp.

2) You don't get better by mooping around saying "I'm not good at it" like eeyeore.

As a ret paladin in an arena you have a few things to keep in mind:
1) lining up burst with your partner
2) using HoJ and repentance at key moments to disable a healer (both can be dispelled by healers, so no point using it anywhere else)
3) Offhealing with WoG/using HoP, HoSac well. Selfless Healer is OP for ret.

Those are in order of difficulty/skill from lowest to highest.

You don't even have to do 1 all that well, even. Ret burst in arena is pretty silly.

I think last word spec is superior regardless. Even spec'd into hammer its a longish cooldown and it takes more than 30 seconds to set up a good time to use a hammer most times. Plus those 70k+ wogs are so game changing and clutch, its basically like having lay on hands in arena. For BG's you absolutely 1000% want last word spec. Your survivability will sky rocket if you can learn to line up your wog with your sacred shield proc.

That makes sense. The two specs also had a difference within the ret tree - one was 2/3 Art of War and 1/2 Acts of Sacrifice, the other was 1/3 and 2/2 respectively. Thoughts?

(Art of war is 7/14/20% chance for white swings to proc instant, free, 2x damage exorcism. Acts of Sacrifice is 10/20% cooldown/mana cost reduction to hands of freedom, salvation, sacrifice)

Edit: Also, neither takes eye for an eye (20/40% chance to reflect 30% of incoming spell damage). I thought that would be good?

Different authors probably playing with different people. For bg's I would take 2/2 acts of sacrifice, the increased mobility is more important than the slight damage increase. For arena it would come down to who you are playing with. As a ret you can always cleanse roots off yourself so acts of sacrifice will be mostly for your partner and pre-emptively immuning roots.

Eye for an Eye just doesn't do much damage for the points you put into it, and can break CCs (IE, if your mage is polying someone, they can just cast a low damage instant spell at you to reflect it and break the poly as it's being cast).

I would go with the Last Word spec myself for ret, though I go Prot subtree in hpally pvp for the reduced hammers. I don't know many rets who go for pure damage.

Art of War isn't so great in PvP because your auto attack swing speed is pretty slow due to 2Hers + lack of haste, and you won't have guaranteed uptime on your targets like you do in PvE.

Okay. If we're going the healing-is-good direction, why the 3 points in JotP for haste, instead of 3 points in PotI that heals me every time I heal someone else? Both get Last Word, but with Selfless Healer, tossing WoG on someone else is pretty good. Haste doesn't do a whole lot for ret, and even less when the target doesn't stand there nicely and let me beat on it.

Because its a very small heal and it will only trigger once every 10-15 seconds...were talking less than 3k here vs 10% melee haste...its a no-brainer.

A 5 stack of your seal is where a majority of your damage while your "Being stun locked and getting kited like a noob" comes from. So I put points in there because it ramps up the damage on the dot you leave ticking on people even if they blink away or root you.

Also the wog heals should only be on people when they are at 35% as a kind of last resort to save the day. Your not healer really. I also from playing holy know the proc on that talent is lowish. So as a ret it essentially feels like it never happens.

You never stun elementals in PvP. If you're against a frost mage in PvP, you might kill the elemental, but never CC it. And you wouldn't kill the elemental, because that's a long term plan, and ret is all about short term solutions.

I don't remember, but do your Repentance targets need to be not in combat? That might be the only requirement. A HoJ into a Repentance would work well if that was the case - or a repentance before people got started.

She means with the wrath glyph not repentance, and I wouldn't glyph it. As far as repentance its usable in combat and breaks on any damage so its a good healer cc if your zerging down a dps. HoJ you usually use on the person your killing so they cant save themselves because its a control stun, so damage does not break it.

I would probably replace the glyph of plea with glyph of HoJ if I was serious about my paladin. As one of my least favorite characters to play he gets very little love though. The elemental stun glyph isnt necessary but its not terrible either...all the paladin major glyphs except turn evil suck.

So, there haven't been any official announcements about it, but it's an interesting idea: Black Market Auction House. Apparently various NPCs can auction off items; Mel Francis may sell mounts such as Ashes of Al'ar, Landro Longshot with TCG loot-card items, etc.

This is something I'd normally not be fond of. The game, however, seriously needs some money sinks. I have hardly played over the last two years and have a little over 400k. Prices on things have made a decent jump on my server since I actively played and I'm pretty sure I could easily start cranking out 20-50k a week if I wanted. Hell, the last week alone I've made 8k just putting gems up once a day on a 12 hour timer.

When I played last, it seemed fairly rare to see people walk around with 50k or more. I've looked around lately and that trend has changed. I'm seeing people all over the place with 100k+ and nothing to spend it on aside from high level guilds or buying mount/title/achievement runs from guilds. Those options obviously don't remove money from the game, but large amounts of gold do change hands in those transactions. In the end, I think it'll probably piss off a lot of the raiding people (both those wanting to profit off their guild runs and those who 'got it the hard way'), but it's a good move if they go through with it. There simply has to be something to take money out of the game and a level 90 version of the Tundra Mammoth isn't gonna cut it.

I may or may not have had an 11 hour coma last night...got the puppy home from the vet after her surgery, laid back in the recliner with her on my chest around 1945ish woke up this morning around 0700.

Also Tuesday was a cluster fuck thanks to Chef being sober or being high as a kite I can't tell. That coupled with new tank and a pug it just wasn't smooth at all.

Hopefully you log your ass in on Tuesday so we can do some work...also fuck well of eternity 13 runs so far not a single trinket drop and I know the first one I see the tank will need on it and win it.

You get gear. It's not very good gear (ilvl 232 greens, so roughly equivalent in power to the 219 purples you had in Ulduar), but it beats what you were wearing as a new-gen character or a level 15 alt or something. The cap is 85 right now, fairly soon to be 90. The leveling up really isn't that bad. The problem is going to be when you hit 85 and realize that you're still terrible and we have to carry you while you go ask AD for some tips. :D

Gearing up at 85 takes like... a week now though. Ding 85, Buy or friends give you 397 VP boots and bracers, craft 397 legs, craft 378 gloves, I think every armor type has a BOE 397 belt... maybe not. If you quested/dungeoned to 85 you should at least have 333 rings/trinkets. 365 free back for doing the DS quest line that takes like 30 minutes I think. Boom you are in HoTs... do HoT quest lines gets you a 378 ring/neck/wand/weapon depending on your class... pop in a crafted or BH pvp item and bam, you are in LFR. Get lucky in LFR, which with a shitty ilevel you likely will, and get a tier piece or two, then start 10 man or 25 maning it.. Or, let your guild carry you. Hell, you can 9 man DS now and I think on Tuesday it's a 25% debuff. Could prolly walk in with 9 guildies and your shitty 330 ilevel and knock it out the day you ding 85.

I was in LFR the day my mage dinged 85, and raiding with him the next day in a 10 man and held my own. Mages are redunk though.

This is absolutely correct. We did it with another guy's paladin a few weeks ago when he came back through the resurrection thing. He still had half his free 232 gear on.

I'm not so much interested in placement of the bars themselves, as I am with which buttons are on them. I keep switching my offspec back and forth between holy pve and ret pvp - changing the talents themselves only takes a minute, but getting the bars/glyphs right every time is a pain. I know Mists will make changing specs like this even easier to do, but that's just going to bring more trouble with setting bars up all the time. Any ideas?

Can you do profiles with whatever you're using. Make one that's Dora1 and have it holy or whatever so you can load that profile. I think I can do something like that with dominos but I've not tried.

Errr, I use bartender4, and it saves what buttons/abilities I have on what bars between specs. Is that what you're looking for? Or are you looking for it to have 6 buttons on bar 1 in one spec, and 12 in the other? You'd need profiles for that. I also have different bar configuration profiles (DPS/tanks have 3 bars with a bunch of smaller bars, holy has 1 bar due to all the mouseover macro'ing).

Here's the problem doing what I think he wants by using profiles: keybinds. Maybe I'm weird or have some big OCD thing when it comes to this, but I like to group the buttons based on their utility. Those groups would be something like bread and butter attacks, AE attacks, offensive cooldowns, defensive cooldowns, food/health/rest stuff, etc. I also have a tendancy to keep the keybinds similar. For example, I use alt-x for my warlock pet's main attack, essentially spell lock or seduce, so that bind became the default 'defense' button; ice block, PW:S, AMS, etc. Now, when you go and completely change your style and the spells you have and use, this little OCD setup gets completely wrecked due to all the bar mods limiting things to actual 'bars'.

There was a mod I absolutely loved back in vanilla, but I can't for the life of me remember what the hell it was called. Anyhow, you could arrange the 120 buttons in any way you wanted. There were no bar restrictions or anything. You could set up individual buttons, make them disappear/appear on events, change sizes, etc etc. Then they decided to make some API changes to lock some of the button settings during combat and the guy I believe went and made bongo bars. Anyhow, I seem to recall hearing that there were people working on a newer version, though I have no idea what the end result of that may be.

If it helps jog anyone's memory, there was no GUI with this bar mod; it was all command line. Lot of people I showed it to thought it was too complicated, but it would definitely allow complete customization of the bars/binds if you were able to get ahold of it and set up a profile for each spec. I've been fairly disappointed at the lack of bar mods that go outside the damn box and get away from that stupid 1-12 button bar limit. All it would take is for one of them to break up those stupid ass bars and complete customization is back in biddness.

The API restricts you to the bars you have access to in the standard UI. Bartender etc kind of hack it a bit, they have the standard 6 page bars, left and right1 and 2, and then they count the shapeshift bar as bar10, and give you the option on setting what bar you want your bars to switch to if you ever shapeshift/stance dance, etc. Stance/shapeshift is its own separate bar which you can't edit and is only available in applicable specs.

I mean, mods will allow you to make a 1 button bar, if you want, but then you'll be restricted to 10-12 1 button bars max. I have a few 3 button bars in my UI for more central issues, but yeah.

I guess the bars can be customizable in the sense that you can make a 10 button bar with 2 columns, thus making it 5 "2 button bars", for example, but then you're restricted to 118 buttons because you took a 12 button bar and made it 10 buttons. With the trimming of the fat in WoW these days, though, I don't really see the need for so many bars. The only time I've had trouble with bar space is on my warrior, as you want to page your main bar based on your stance and also have static bars. But even stancing issues are going away in MoP, so gg.
