I got a good explanation for hunter shot normalization for anyone that is interested (or who has further input)

When you look at your character sheet in game you'll see two figures under damage. One will be the damage range. Let's say 1600-2200. The other will be the DPS. Now DPS and damage are obviously increased by Attack Power. The DPS you gain is Attack Power / 14 = DPS gain. The Damage you gain is based on either the BASE speed of your weapon, or a NORMALIZED speed. This becomes AP / 14 * Speed = Damage gain. So let's say you have 7k attack power. This is a DPS gain of 500. With a 2.8 speed weapon this is +1,400 damage, but with a 3.0 speed weapon this is +1,500 damage. Your auto-attack DPS will be the same, but when dealing with special shots you're gaining +100 damage on the shot, but having a slower weapon does not slow down how fast you can use those special attacks. So slower weapons give higher DPS on special attacks. The solution to this is to use a normalized speed. Let's say 2.8. In this case the weapon speed is now irrelevant. If you're using Slow Bow of Win or Fast Bow of Suck both will gain 7000 / 14 * 2.8 = 1,400 damage to special attacks.

It should be noted that the base damage of the weapon is not affected. So slow weapons will still be a DPS gain. However, that gain will no longer scale with attack power, so the difference will be minor. For instance Heroic Stakethrower hits for 619-1150, but normal Zod's hits for 577-1,074. This isn't normalized, so Stakethrower would still do 42-76 more damage on specials.

According to the theory crafting sites the top dps at 85 is survival hunters and locks still. Even with the nerf.

Well what sim's out and what is reality isnt always the same. Im sure a machine is much better at managing an energy bar than a human being as well. I doubt aff locks are pulling 24k on beta either. The point of sims is to rank classes in relation to each other when perfect play and gear is a given and in most of those hunters are at or near the top according to what im hearing on the mmo boards.

lulz. I can teach you what I know which, granted, is not alot. I'm still a total noob. I have learned a few things recently though. Being good at BG's means you can become pretty fail at some other things if you arent careful. This includes Raids, Dungeons and PvE in general. Also being good at BG is not being good at PvP. BG's are right in the middle of the PvP totem pole. Not a total test of skill level like Arena but still slightly cooler than ganking people in Stranglethorn (lulz). I plan on throwing myself into the Arena at one point but first I have to master this character which is still a complete work in progress.

Best BG teacher is Arathi Basin, imho. Horde is killing it right now for whatever reason. As a noob you probably just want to guard a base and call incomings (read: camp the farm). You will probably die like 10 times every BG at first. It's ok, that's normal while you are learning. Just make sure you learn something from every death and take note of the level, gear and methods of each person that kills you so you know how to wipe the floor with them next time (or eventually).

You can always offer gay blowjobs to any of the HoR for further instruction or catch me during my late night (monday, tuesday and wednesday) hours and we can do some bg bootcamp.

The mini map is actually a battlemap. Comes up in BGs but you can have it visible outside as well...which I do. Shift M is your friend.

My raid frames are far left too, but I'm not in a raid there so they arent showing. The frame you see there is healbot. I like to have both visible so I can see stuff differently, depending on whats going on.

I think that's why I'm in the 18/19th best 10 man on our shitty server, because I don't want to be in an uber serious raiding guild where I feel like it's a job and not for fun.

Disc priests are fucking uber right now. Prayer of healing procs a shield buff on its targets, which stacks up to three times. It also can stack on a target more than once (i.e. multiple priests casting PoH prock the shield buff, you can have multiple buffs). I've literally run a 5 man and mitigated all damage except for about 3k because someone pulled off the tank.

Get several disc priests in a raid, stack to 3x for 10k buff times however many disc priests you have, plus rolling shields for 10+k buffs, shadow priest vamp and your raid hardly take any damage at all.

It's manageable today mana-wise, but I don't expect it will be at 85 until you are deep into the high end gear.

edit: Oh, the reason I mention the shield buff from PoH as "new" is that they changed it from only procing on toons you crit on to it procs every time you cast the spell on all targets affected. For my priest, its a sub 2 second cast with 10k+ mitigation on 5 toons. Hard to top them in a raid right now.

Im torn, I want to level the mage first I think from a purely which would be more fun to do leveling zones with perspective but on the other hand I dont want to wait in 9 hours queues when I get there so leveling Salv retribution and then going holy/protection would be the obvious choice for actually having fun at level 85.

I figure it taking me 2 weeks with my current play rate/style. Then it's dungeons, heroics, and prep for raid. I think HoR will start raiding just after New Year. Gives everyone time to spend holidays with family, level without burn out, and gear up appropriate to step in and kill shit. Also PvP.

Hell, I'll be halfway to 81 from the get-go. Once I hit 82, straight to Deepholm.

Yes. That's what I did for WotLK and what I plan to do for this expansion. It gave me almost 300K experience instantly.

I don't know much about priests, so I require knowledge on how much or how little they own in pvp as shadow.

Biggest difference is learning to kite without real snares and blow fear cooldowns when you get charged/dg'd etc...once you get the hang of that its pretty much the same as mage. Over powered ranged dps.

*This is from my very limited experience. I think my shadow priest has like 5k hks or something. I tried it...it was ok..wasnt for me.

I keep getting owned by shadow priests in bg. Not that I know shit from shit but they seem pretty awesome in the 70's. Warriors are lol. I can kill them in a burst of 3 but actually I usually ignore them and target the spell casters first. THIS MIGHT BE TOTALLY WRONG OMG. /Two cents.

Shadow priests biggest problems = only one out from stun locks. Once you blow dispersion your a sitting duck for a rogue or melee locking you down.

No. Its just if psychic scream and dispersion are on cooldown and a sword is popping you in the mouth it seems to me its likely you're going to go down quick which can be a little frustrating as a shadow priest. I mean you can shield yourself and survive a second and maybe get a dot up but you know...you're cloth and out of escapes. If you have been playing a mage a long time like me you will immediately be like wheres my fucking blink button. I guess thats what im trying to say.

Psychic Horror is on a separate CD too, and is good for melee, cause it also disarms.

Shadow priests only real snare is mind flay, which is a channeled cast, which sucks. A lot of shadow pvp is dotting shit up and running around like a mad man. Devouring plague can only be on one target, but vampiric touch and sw:p can be on as many as you want. Plus, once you have 3 orbs up (from sw:P ticks or mind flay ticks), you have a handy nuke in your pocket, Mind Blast totally overpowered - and if you spec into Paralysis, your mind blast crits root the target. Sin and Punishment will allow you to DoT everything up and run around and spawn mad apparations everywhere which'll disorient, and, if used cleverly, RP walking (which is what the apparations do) can disguise your location for a few seconds if your opponent is not using nameplates.

Plus, with glyph of shadow word: death, you have a double execute which is alreeady pretty strong as it is.

shadow pvp with hasted dots is pretty nasty.

I have this thing about keeping physical discs for games. Nevermind the fact that within 3 weeks the thing is lost somewhere, and I spend the next few months periodically shifting through a drawer, swearing and looking for it... I still must have it.

15 years of being a gamer I loath discs. I think I have like 17 final fantasy 7 disc 3's and one disc 1 for instance. Digitalizing games was the best thing that ever happened to me. I only have to buy games once.

I told him I hoped so because I wasn't taking off my pvp gear and was ok with staying at 80 for the night if it meant I could kill people til they rage quit. He looked offended and said that's why he plays PvE. I wanted to call him a care bear but tears really mess up those sweet blue shirts.

So... the way they did the ore is kind of nice. Finding four nodes in one spot, gathering one, and it immediately respawning can be awesome.

But for some reason I am not finding very many volatile earth. And someone was saying skinning is giving like a bladder that can drop any/every volatile piece. That is... I am not sure if I like it or not. As I don't have a skinner atm, I am unhappy. :P Guess I will be leveling one soon.

Questing, although the new areas look nice, seems really really boring to me.

And who is ever going back to Vash'jr after they finish questing... I mean is there a reason beyond some of the roaming bosses, or visiting a quartermaster?

All your Dunemaul pals can save up some of the new greens, and your 78 will be better geared than their 80s ever were. I am actually tempted to level my 73 DK to 78 right quick and 'pimp' it out with all the new greens, see how the coefficients work out.

I really wish I was on a PVP server for this reason. Back in Vash when I was waiting for the goblin king? or something to spawn in his little shell, EVERYONE and their dog was there, AOEing the fuck out of it waiting for him to spawn and tag it first. My pally had no fucking chance. Had very little I could do about it, until some more horde came by that I could group with. Got a lock and a mage at the same time, and between them one of em tagged him on the very next spawn. But I was there for like 10 minutes before that, trying with my pitiful consecration and holy wrath.

I noticed this on most name guys, hell even alliance were waiting their turn with us. But the second someone got out of line it was all aboard the bus to Camp Rape.

If I saw a line forming behind an alliance or two, I would simply create a macro that targeted the named mob and cast an instant spell at them. They only had 30K health.. so if an alliance felt like I cut them in line and was brave enough to step forward and demand an apology, I would let the chain lightning do the talking.

Alliance know their place on our server... if they attack you it's usually because you are dealing with multiple mobs and/or your health is below 30%. Once they do manage to kill you, they run away before you have a chance to rezz.

If I saw a line forming behind an alliance or two, I would simply create a macro that targeted the named mob and cast an instant spell at them. They only had 30K health.. so if an alliance felt like I cut them in line and was brave enough to step forward and demand an apology, I would let the chain lightning do the talking.

Alliance know their place on our server... if they attack you it's usually because you are dealing with multiple mobs and/or your health is below 30%. Once they do manage to kill you, they run away before you have a chance to rezz.

Funny you should say that, becaue I have mostly just been doign the questing, however yesterday three random mages (and one scrub prist I wont mention) attacked me out of the blue. Not the first time I saw them, because they were on their own. Mostsly when they had company. Oh yes. That's the time they got brave.

Now I died a couple of times, but the beauty of stealth is that you pick when and where. None of them died whilst fighting load of mobs,. but they died, and often. One of them basically emoted to say "please stop, I want to quest now"


It might have something to do with us outnumbering them...

Not really. There is a rogue named Chicken something that will disagree. He decided to get angry over me "stealing" his mining node and decided to attack me. 5 seconds later as he was running back to his corpse, I'm pretty sure he was calling for a nerf to elemental shaman.

Clearly there are some good and bad horde players and the same applies to alliance. I have noticed that the horde players who have been into PVPing have been right up for it when the odds are massively in their favour. No doubt that would be true for many alliance who were pvping.

I had a shaman with three of his friends around decide to weigh in on me in the Twiglet Highlands this morning. I shadowmelded and flew off (love that), healed then ganked his ass in the middle of his group when he wasnt expecting it. No fucking way the pansies who were trying it on yesterday would have done the same. When things looked even, they split.

God healing post-shattering/pre-cata lulled me into a false sense of security. Dungeons are so mana intensive right now. Finally have a healing set that is just about able to see me through fights, excluding idiots doing stupid things.
Having to work at this :S

Yup it can be brutal. It also hurts when the tank isn't fully cata'ized yet. I noticed a huge difference in my squishiness after upgrading a few pieces. It's pretty fun being lvl 83 with 91k HP (that's a rolling trinket proc only 78k without it).

The HP is insane, but then it needs to be.
At 84 I had 75k HP at 85, and only seconds later I had 98k HP
Infuckingsane.

I got kicked out of a group yesterday because I was just unable to heal it. Dont blame them really, however the next group I was in, did it like a breeze. The gear and the attitude/ability of the group makes such a difference. The second group I was in were completely capable. Each fight was a task in mana conservation for me, but the tank wasnt pulling groups of 6 mobs with no CC whilst I was still drinking. Hey! That works!

Seriously. I've never used healing surge as much as I am right now. I'm sure once we get better gear that the amounts of high end aoe damage will probably seem less, but right now I'm drinking after almost every big trash pull.

Bosses seem far easier from a healing perspective than the trash.

Let's be fair, unlike those mages, I attacked you solo. You killed me once, while I was engaged with two mobs after you ran away from my intial attack. I then rebuffed you 3 times when you tried to kill me again, and you ran away again. ;)

As for WHY I attacked you before, I had a Vietnam-esque flashback to Sholozar Basin and flipped out. ;)
