It would be fantastic if California were granted the right to leave the Union. Because of it's strategic resources, it'll never happen.

California would turn back into the desert that it is. It would be catastrophic.

What doesn't voting by mail have to do with a highly contagious coronavirus which would spread like wildfire in packed polling places? No, the crying being done is purely by Republican's who see a threat in allowing more participation in elections. The President said as much at his rally.

Sorry but dead people, illegals, identify thieves, etc. don't get to participate in elections. I know this is a weird concept to leftists, but it's true no matter how hard you disagree with it.

You're really hot on Backlash's heels lately both in stupidity and overall dishonesty. Back hasn't been around to defend his title, so if you play your cards right, you'll be the next champ by default.

Having been a volunteer poll worker in the last two elections, I'll tell you that from 7:00-8:00 when most polls open there are usually 20-40 people lined up at my local fire station. It takes about thirty minutes to get through that like alone. Now multiply that by dozens, or hundreds of polling places in your typical city, but require those 20-40 people to line up halfway around the block.

That's a recipe for low voter turnout, even suppression. Which of course is exactly what you want I imagine.

Who specifically would be being suppressed since this would apply to literally everybody? Be specific.

This is just nuts. If you're telling me we won't be able to go to movies, stadiums, or anything of that nature by November then just fuck it. We might as well live like hermits for the rest of our existence.

I was all for the two week lockdown, and I'm reluctantly going along with the lockdown until May 1st, but after that we might as well just roll the dice and see what happens. Are we just going to sit in our homes for months on end, only going places the government "allows" us to go to for the rest of the year?

Are we going to sit in our homes while our government overlords tell us we can't even leave our houses to vote anymore and instead they'll send us a ballot in the mail so we can choose the next dictator who will force us to stay at home for months more?

Pretty amazing how Americans just willingly gave up almost all of their rights because a bunch of unelected people told us it was in our best interest.

I read a story yesterday where Dr. Fauci said Americans MIGHT be able to take summer vacations this year. Might? Who the fuck made this guy king? This same guy who on January 21st said this virus wasn't anything Americans had to be concerned with, and now 2 months later he's telling us we won't even be able to take vacations this year because he says so?

Then we have people like Governor Cuomo who was demanding 40k ventilators and warning his state was going to be short like 200k beds or some such shit. Experts are now saying NY has reached their peak and they never needed even a fraction of those ventilators and they were never short on hospital beds.

If people want to walk around with face masks on for the rest of their lives and avoid social interactions as much as possible after May I say go for it. But this talk of extending this stay at home and outlawing large gatherings until the end of the year is crazy.

The r0 for COVID-19 is between 2.2 (early Chinese study) or 5.7 (most recent study available). That means that the time it takes to double the number of infected persons is between 6 to 7 days and 2 to 3 days.

Assuming that is more like a 5-day doubling (so somewhere between the two extremes), if we went back to life pre-COVID-19 on the fourth of July with only 1000 asymptomatic cases left in the US, that 1000 infected persons would be 32 million by the middle of September. At some point before we got there, we'd realize we needed to go back to social distancing. But more likely, we've got mathematically literate professionals making sure we don't ever let it get to that point without some mitigating factors.

The bottom line is that without a clinical treatment for severe cases (there are a number of promising prospects), life will not be normal until we have a vaccine.

Look at this shit. Now comrade Fauci is talking about having people carry "certificates of immunity" that would presumably allow be required to show a police officer to prove they are "allowed" to go outside and work and maybe go to the beach if they fucking feel like it.

This shit is getting crazy fast.

Wait, I may have missed something. Was there something in the news about Fauci and Trump having a falling out? I had been pretty sure that the president was fronting Fauci and following Fauci / Brix recommendations. Yes, agreed on many points. You missed the opportunity to bring China back into the discussion, though. The idea of passport stamps appears to have originated there from what quick glance I made. The problem is the US doesn't use passports as official ID documentation internally. And last I checked, drivers licenses and social security cards didn't have leaflet pages to stamp.

It would be an absolute disaster to even attempt something like this. It would also require something we simply do not have, 100% coverage in antibody testing.

I do think that the president could drop Fauci in a heartbeat, though, with just a little preparation. And therein is the problem.

Nice job equating "won't be completely gone" with lock down till November. There you go conflating again. The goal is to avoid flare-ups, and being ready and able to vote by mail is one way to reduce a line of people at a polling station if there is a flare up. It's the Boy Scout motto: be prepared.

The president votes by mail, why shouldn't you be able to? The entire state of Washington votes by mail and the world hasn't ended there.

Voting by mail doesn't in any was confirm voting rights on illegals, as voting rights are controlled by citizenship. Dead people also are weeded out automatically by Elections who compare their voters database with vital statistics, by county.

As for identity thieves, that's a problem that's already a problem with physical voting as only a handful of states require identification.

People literally steal amazon and other delivery packages from people's doors every day and it doesn't slow things down, even with a video doorbell. A mailbox is even easier, because no one thinks twice about it and most cameras aren't exactly zoomed in on a mailbox for identification. Shit, you can't even see most mailboxes from the doorbell cameras depending on mailbox location.

I also second needing to provide some sort of ID to vote. Maybe instead of 25 million towards a stupid performing arts center, they could have earmarked that 25m and subsidized low or no income people who for whatever reason, can't scrape together their state's identification card cost.

R0 is based on no one in the world having immunity. Many of us are immune to the seasonal flu either because the vaccine cocktail was correct or because we've got good enough immune systems that our illness/vaccine from prior years is still kicking the flus ass. So R0 for the seasonal flu is completely useless. The basic premise isn't true at all.

Back in December, the R0 for COVID-19 was really useful because NO ONE had immunity. It was novel. So had we done nothing, it would have swept through us like a fucking tidal wave. Now I get that the second wave won't be as potent because we will have SOME herd immunity. But it's not going to be like the flu. And if we just go back to normal, there will be a massive second wave.

I think we'll do a lot of mitigation. We might all be wearing masks for 12 months. We might limit gathering size. We definitely won't have spectator sports. We won't have concerts. I imagine shit like Broadway shows will be seating every other seat and staged exits. We'll have restaurants, but there will be minimums on how far away tables must be from each other. Bar seating will be 1/3 of what it usually is.

Worst of all, we're all still going to view each other as a danger to our bodies and the bodies of our loved ones. That's the most brutal psychological effect of all of this (at least to me).

Many of us are immune to the seasonal flu either because the vaccine cocktail was correct or because we've got good enough immune systems that our illness/vaccine from prior years is still kicking the flus ass. So R0 for the seasonal flu is completely useless. The basic premise isn't true at all.

The flu vaccine is largely a crapshoot. I think last year or the year before it only had a 23% effectiveness.

Also going by this logic the R0 of the Wuhan Flu is largely useless too then. With more and more people infected and building up an immunity to the Wuhan Virus that means fewer hosts for the virus to use and spread to other people.

Again I'm all for giving this a shot until May 1st, but at some point we have to remember we are free Americans and we are killing more people with this "cure" than the virus could ever dream of. I bet a lot of people have already had their lives permanently impacted by the shutdown.

For 12 fucking months? And you're okay with this? Oh right, like I said earlier you must have a cushy work-from-home job so you have little worries. Or maybe you have an "essential" job so you don't have to worry about a fucking paycheck for 12 months.

Except that the R0 is NOT even close to accurate for this virus since your follow up statement "NO ONE had immunity" is 100% not true. If it were true and the transmission rate were somewhat high, then the entire city of Wuhan would have been infected very rapidly, like in days to 2 weeks and the lethality would be MUCH higher. Fact is, many people are resistant for whatever reason, most people recover my a large margin and many people recover without any substantial medical treatment. We have no clue how many people had had this disease, how many have genuinely died from it and how infectious it really is. And yet we are going on shitty, over blown, proven wildly inaccurate data to decide to shut down the western world and destroy the economies and possibly nations and you leftist idiots see nothing wrong with that because "muh feels", "muh families" or "for the children".

And then your favorite lackies/useful idiots/willful co-conspirators the Leftist media get on with the business of attacking the administration for banning travel early on by calling him racist and so on. Followed by the government isn't doing things fast enough all the while your own experts and so called "leaders" were calling it a hoax, nothing to worry about and enticing people to gather in large groups and go hug a Chinese person to prove you aren't racist. Now you are all crying about the need for medical equipment when your own so called "leaders" ignored warnings years ago, sold it, refused to replace it after the last outbreak and wasted billions on solar and diversity boondoggles followed by a malicious fake impeachment based on illegally obtained fake data that is now being clearly discredited as Russian misinformation. All the while yelling some version of Orange Man Bad. And yet somehow you mush headed morons think you can blame Trump and make it all OK. You even have celebrities wishing death to Trump supporters and Trump on a daily basis and somehow in your twisted little minds you think all of this is OK and us evil Conservatives are too blame.

Your people lied to you, people have died because of Leftist so called "leaders" failures and policies and now you want to cry.

Fuck off.

My brother is likely going to lose his house over this due to the downturn in his business since it's seasonal and he skims through the winter and relies on the spring to ramp up business and income until winter hits again. His reserves are gone, his workers are unpaid and the business is pretty thin. My sister is teetering on the edge with her job and if she loses it or is furloughed for a while, she might lose her house too. All because we have to quarantine healthy people because some immune compromised don't want to feel bad that they need to stay home. Just got back from the doctor, they are pissed that this has been blown out of proportion.

Doc "We have good news for you. Because of this covid-19, patients have been canceling all their appointments with the neurologist. We can get you in tomorrow morning."

Me "Yea, I think it's a little silly."

Doc "Actually it's stupid. Covid-19 is nothing more than a bad cold. The flu is a much greater threat. The media has to have something to scare people with."

Thank you covid-19, I was going to be waiting 6 more weeks to see a neurologist.

The media needs to be held accountable for this charade.

Did you get a new doctor yet? Since yours isn't so smart. As you can see in the graphic linked below, COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death in the USA, far worse than the flu, even worse than heart disease and cancer. Getting a new doctor would be a way to hold him accountable.

Voting by mail doesn't in any was confirm voting rights on illegals, as voting rights are controlled by citizenship. Dead people also are weeded out automatically by Elections who compare their voters database with vital statistics, by county.

As for identity thieves, that's a problem that's already a problem with physical voting as only a handful of states require identification.

https://media.giphy.com/media/L8XuphFGqlSfe/giphy.gif

Please tell me you really believe that the Democrats want voting by mail because they simply want every legal vote counted... because that would take an immense amount of naivety and stupidity that we haven't seen around here since BacKKKlash got upset and quit... or died from the Corvid-19 from licking too many customer's used plates.

33,536 new cases, up 1,601 from April 8th's 31,935. Up slightly but still pretty stable.
1,900 new deaths, down 40 from April 8th's 1,940 new deaths.

NY and NJ continue to make up the bulk of new infections and deaths.

NY and NJ had 42% of the new cases and 53% of the new deaths.

April 10th:
33,752 cases, up 216 cases from April 9th. Again up slightly but still stable.
2035 deaths, up 144 from April 9th but somewhat stable.

Once again NY and NJ make up the bulk of new infections and deaths.

More and more Democratic governors are beginning to act like outright tyrants.

Michigan governor has forbidden people visiting other houses. Yes you can't even get in your car and go visit your parents 5 miles away. The only exceptions are if you're taking care of someone.

Police in Pennsylvania are literally dragging people off of buses if they aren't wearing a mask.

As mentioned earlier the governor of Kentucky will have police write down license plate numbers of those violating the stay at home order and contact health officials to have those people placed under quarantine.

Blackface governor himself of Virginia has imposed a lockdown until AT LEAST FUCKING JUNE 1ST.

This virus is like every Democratic tyrant's wet dream.

This is why you should never vote Democrat, just look at their first instincts in a crisis.

The weird part is the media and Democrats are APPLAUDING these governors while demonizing Republican governors for "not doing enough." I guess it's just a matter of time before Republican governors feel the pressure to "do enough" by Democrats and the media to start trampling all over our rights too.

Did I fall asleep and somehow wake up in Nazi Germany or what? I wonder when Democratic governors are going to start issuing states of emergency and have their Storm Troopers bust down doors and start confiscating guns, you know, "for our safety."

Oh yeah how could I forget the governor of Wisconsin literally canceling an election the day before said election because he didn't like the way the absentee votes were favoring Republicans and he was worried Republicans might do well in the election?

Yet another move Democrats such as Seran applauded like good trained seals.

Double oh yeah! The states of Vermont and Michigan have forbidden stores such as Walmart (which are allowed to be open because they sell food) from selling anything EXCEPT "essential" items.

Yes these stores have to move all of their non-essential items to the storeroom or literally block off isles with non-essential products to prevent customers from shopping there.

Can the Democrats get anymore drunk on power? And who can blame them when Democrat voters are like "This...makes...so much fucking sense! Yes! Restrict my movement! Surveil me as much as possible! Tell me what I can and cannot buy! Cancel elections when it doesn't look like they will go well for Democrats! Pull me off of buses! Put me under quarantine! Prevent me from visiting a friend, relative, or neighbor!"

I think even most somewhat-normal Democrats are going to be tired of this shit by May. I know Democrats love to say how great Communism is, and now that they are getting a taste of it firsthand I have a feeling a lot of them are finding out it's not really as great as it sounds on paper. They are quickly finding out that in Communism they will be the ones being crushed by the boot, not be the one wearing the boot.

This shit gets more crazy the more I read about it!

The governor of Michigan wanted to extend all of her draconian measures until the FUCKING MIDDLE OF JUNE, but the state legislature shot that idea down.

That means the governor of Michigan wanted ~100 days of people locked in their homes, unable to visit another person's home (or even another home they own!!!), unable to leave their home unless they were going to the store to get groceries or were going to their "essential" job, stores unable to sell anything except essential items, and all non-essential businesses closed. For. 100. Fucking. Days.

The governor of Michigan has to be the most American power hungry bitch I have ever heard of, and that's saying something considering Pelosi's recent shenanigans in Congress.

Yet another edit because I read even more about this shit! These aren't just "guidelines" in Michigan, you can get a fine and possibly even be charged with a misdemeanor. Yes you can be fucking charged with a crime for traveling to your own home or walking across the street to visit with a neighbor in the state of Michigan.

And you accuse me of being misleading.

You're taking the yearly deaths from other causes of death and dividing them by 365 and taking the Wuhan Virus number of deaths and using the highest daily figures to conclude that the Wuhan Virus is killing more Americans than any other cause.

The experts are now predicting 60k deaths in the US, divide that by 365 and we are at an average of 164 deaths a day. For reference accidents (like someone slipping off of their roof when putting up Christmas lights) accounts for 466 deaths a day on average.

Also let's revisit what I just said, the experts are now predicting 60k deaths in the US. Just a week ago these same experts were saying 120k-200k IF WE KEPT THE CURRENT RESTRICTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS IN PLACE. This means that their worst case scenario (we keep everyone locked up, close down all non-essential businesses, social distancing, etc.) predicated UP TO (so we can avoid the upwards debate again) 200k deaths and that figure has already been cut down to 60k in a week.

Meaning Trump is either saving lives by the millions (original estimates were up to 2+ million US deaths), or shutting down the entire country was just hyped up fear by the left and the media in order to try and make Trump look bad by tanking the economy.

Which explanation are you leaning towards, Archigeek?

There's nothing misleading about it. Today, and yesterday, and the day before, Covid19 was the leading cause of death in America. I did not suggest that today's numbers will be the average throughout the entire year. No one knows what that will be. Over 2000 today though, that is a lot. If only we'd had a better testing program before this got out of hand, thousands of lives and trillions of dollars might have been saved.

If only the politicians in NY could have pulled their heads out of their ass long enough to care about lives more than they care about virtue signaling then this shit wouldn't be nearly as bad as it is right now in the US. Yes by all means put those blinders on and blame the federal government for not having "better testing" while ignoring China's role in lying and NY's role in downplaying the shit out of this virus while the rest of the country, including Trump, had already taken it seriously.

I know you're a Democrat and all, but I thought maybe just for once when thousands of people are dying and hundreds of thousands are getting sick you could put your politics behind you for a minute and look at the people who really failed this country. Hint: almost all of the blame lies in NY and their Democratic leaders.

Americans have been making sacrifices for our country for a long ass time.

This is just a matter of what we think is an appropriate sacrifice.

I think we should sacrifice our GDP to save hundreds of thousands of lives. Especially considering that economists view the likelihood of a V-shaped recession to be the most likely outcome once we've got a vaccine or effective clinical treatment.

You think we should sacrifice Great Aunt Sally, who has had a good life anyways, because you're too impatient and unwilling to sacrifice your own livelihood for the sake of those more vulnerable than you.

Not a single American I can think of made sacrifices so we could all be sheep and stay indoors for 100+ days because the government told us it was in our best interest. The hell you even talking about?

You think we should sacrifice Great Aunt Sally, who has had a good life anyways, because you're too impatient and unwilling to sacrifice your own livelihood for the sake of those more vulnerable than you.

Fuck you.

40k Americans die every year to car accidents, you going to give up your car if the government comes knocking and says "Won't you please think of the children?"

200k Americans die every year from air pollution, you going to give up your home to live in a cardboard box because the government comes knocking and says "Won't you please think of your neighbor?"

Up to 65k+ Americans die every year to the flu, you going to stay in your cardboard box during the entire flu season because the government comes knocking and says "Won't you please think of Great Aunt Sally?"

Over 100k Americans die every year to STIs, you going to cut that tiny dick of yours off if the government comes knocking and says "Won't you please think of someone else besides you for a change?"

If you won't do any or all of the above you must be a selfish dick.

Speaking of worthless people such as Keller, a town in Mississippi handed out 500 dollar fines because people were sitting in their car in a church parking lot for services on Good Friday.

Yup! 500 dollar fines for sitting in your own fucking car on private fucking property.

Keller: But please think of Great Aunt Sally who couldn't possibly get infected with you sitting in your car!

Oh yeah here's a shocker, the mayor is a Democrat. I know everyone is as flabbergasted as I am.

2 months now that states are extending to at least the end of April.

Yep, you know diddly over shit about construction business. You also didn't read what I said. There are other contributing factors I chose not to bring in. When you basically shut down business from early November to early March, a setback of a month hurts, now it will be two, maybe more. But hey, fuck the conservative business owner because of "muh feels"

I especially know the construction business. Owners in that business should have a rainy day fund precisely because the business is seasonal.

It's all fun and games until stuff hits the fan. If you're hurting after only a month or two that isn't the fake pandemic's fault...it's your poor financial planning.

That's all I have noticed so far.

Governor of Michigan
Governor of Vermont
Governor of Wisconsin
Governor of Pennsylvania
Governor of Kentucky
Governor of Virginia
Mayor of a city in Mississippi

Democratic politicians proving they want as much government control as possible and Democratic voters proving they want as much government control over their lives as possible.

It's honestly pretty frightening to be witnessing this in real time. A month ago I was worried about the virus, now I'm worried people have willingly given too much power to the government and we may never go back to normal in the US.

Democrats have been dreaming about this kind of power for decades now and all it took was for them to exploit a virus and telling us we need to listen to them if we wanted to live.

April 10th:
33,752 cases, up 216 cases from April 9th. Again up slightly but still stable.
2035 deaths, up 144 from April 9th but somewhat stable.

Once again NY and NJ make up the bulk of new infections and deaths.

NY and NJ had 43% of the new cases and 50% of the new deaths.

April 11th:
30,003 cases, down 3,749 from April 10th.
1830 deaths, down 205 deaths from April 10th.

As usual NY and NJ make up the bulk of new infections and deaths.

NY and NJ had 42% of new cases and 57% of new deaths.

This is now the 10th day in a row where new cases have been relatively flat.

This is now the 5th day in a row where new deaths have been relatively flat.

This is a good sign, this is indeed the flattening of the curve everyone has been talking about.

Trump and 49 states + DC did a good job.

This is just absolutely disgusting and you should be condemning it, not downplaying it.

Imagine on Thursday telling churches they can't hold service, not even a fucking drive-in service, the following day on one of the most well known Christian religious days, Good Friday. Then to take it one step further to threaten to write down the license plates of people attending services on Easter Sunday and have the health officials track then down via vehicle registration and place them into quarantine.

This is literally the type of shit we all learned about in school in regards to Nazi Germany and were then told by our teachers how lucky we are to live in such a civilized society where something like that could never happen.

Doctors believe coronavirus was present in California as early as December (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/doctors-believe-coronavirus-was-present-in-california-as-early-as-december)

“The virus was freewheeling in our community and probably has been here for quite some time,” Dr. Jeff Smith, chief executive of Santa Clara County's government, told county leaders in a briefing.

“This wasn’t recognized because we were having a severe flu season,” Smith said. “Symptoms are very much like the flu. If you got a mild case of COVID, you didn’t really notice. You didn’t even go to the doctor. The doctor maybe didn’t even do it because they presumed it was the flu.”

This is what I said over a month ago.

It makes no sense that this virus has been circulating in China since November and yet it didn't start to spread in the US until February/March.

So people were getting sick and even dying back in December and everyone just chalked it up to the flu and went on with their lives. But now that we know it's not the flu suddenly we have to shut down the entire world and become a dictatorship in the US for several months.

In case you still don't get it, Archigeek, here you go:

'Unconstitutional': Judge allows drive-in service at Louisville church after mayor 'criminalized' Easter services (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/unconstitutional-judge-allows-drive-in-service-at-louisville-church-after-mayor-criminalized-easter-services)

Surprise! The mayor is a Democrat!

Then decades later Satan herself loses an election and suddenly Democrats are like "You know what? Maybe that Hitler guy was onto something..."

Oh my mistake, you're just being a complete douchebag then.

Why should I be disgusted? First of all, I don't live there, but where I do live, we're doing just fine with our religeous services. We've been doing them online, and for the short term that's working OK under the circumstances. I support the right to hold a drive in service, so long as it's done in a safe way. It sounds like the judge made the right call. Yay?

I'm not going to read every link you post. If you think that makes me a douchebag, I can sleep well knowing that I've been judged by someone on the internet. Also, based on past experience, I'm pretty confident you're whipping up the hyperbole as much as possible, and only telling half-truths, so why should I bother? In fact, it's pretty clear you're full of shit:

The nazi's would have made sure the judge didn't rule that way, and then they would have thrown the priest in jail. Maybe with a bit of torture and an execution to send the right message. Here in America, we hold generally legit trials and when we lose, we mostly accept it, or maybe we appeal, but we have a process that's pretty legitimate, and we follow it. So don't go equating the American legal system with Nazi Germany's treatment of people who didn't agree with them on religious grounds. You hyperventilating over the latest tweet does not make you fucking Dietric Bonhoffer.

Yeah turns out the union was actually being scammed and the masks didn't exist.

You would think that would have been obvious from the beginning, why would a company just so happen to be sitting on a stockpile of 39 million N95 masks? But you gotta remember these days common sense and basic journalist take a back seat to proving how much you hate Trump.

It's beginning to make me wonder if Newson's claims of having secured orders for like 500 million masks or whatever is legit as well or if the government of California is now being scammed.

Signs missed and steps slowed in Trump’s pandemic response

By the time President Donald Trump first spoke publicly about the coronavirus, it may already have been too late.

Interviewed at Davos, a gathering of global elites in the Swiss Alps, the president on Jan. 22 played down the threat posed by the respiratory virus from China, which had just reached American shores in the form of a solitary patient in Washington state.

“We have it totally under control,” Trump said on CNBC. “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

The Pentagon first learned about the new coronavirus in December from open source reports emanating from China. By early January, warnings about the virus had made their way into intelligence reports circulating around the government. On Jan. 3, the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield, received a call from his Chinese counterpart with an official warning.

Matthew Pottinger, Trump’s deputy national security adviser, persistently urged more aggressive action in calling out China and sending teams there.

But while word of the virus was included in several of the president’s intelligence briefings, Trump wasn’t fully briefed on the threat until Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar called with an update on Jan. 18 while the president was at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

Trump spent much of the conversation wanting to talk about vaping; he was considering a new policy restricting its use. White House officials now believe Trump didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of the threat to the U.S. in part because Azar, who was feuding with several members of Trump’s inner circle, did a poor job communicating it.

You're such an easily manipulated tool.

On Jan. 3, the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Robert Redfield, received a call from his Chinese counterpart with an official warning.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the government’s top infectious disease expert, was alerted to the virus around the same time — and within two weeks was fearful it could bring global catastrophe.

So around January 17th Fauci was "fearful it could bring global catastrophe" huh?

January 26th: https://thehill.com/homenews/sunday-talk-shows/479939-government-health-agency-official-corona-virus-isnt-something-the

“It’s a very, very low risk to the United States,” Fauci said during an interview with radio show host John Catsimatidis.

“But it’s something that we as public health officials need to take very seriously... It isn’t something the American public needs to worry about or be frightened about. Because we have ways of preparing and screening of people coming in [from China]. And we have ways of responding - like we did with this one case in Seattle, Washington, who had traveled to China and brought back the infection.”

January 28th: https://abcnews.go.com/International/death-toll-coronavirus-rises-106-china-outbreak-spreads/story?id=68580575

While China has reported evidence of coronavirus transmission in asymptomatic individuals, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not been able to review that data and can't confirm it, Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, said during the news conference.

Even if that asymptomatic transmission is confirmed, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, stressed that asymptomatic transmission is not health officials' primary concern.

"In all the history of respiratory viruses, asymptomatic transmission has never been the driver of outbreaks," Fauci said. "An epidemic is not driven by asymptomatic carriers."

January 31st: https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/press-briefing-members-presidents-coronavirus-task-force/

If you put all these things together, I underscore what Bob said: We still have a low risk to the American public.

February 18th: https://news.yahoo.com/top-disease-official-risk-coronavirus-222852299.html

Short of that, Fauci says skip the masks unless you are contagious, don't worry about catching anything from Chinese products and certainly don't avoid Chinese people or restaurants.

Fauci doesn't want people to worry about coronavirus, the danger of which is "just minuscule." But he does want them to take precautions against the "influenza outbreak, which is having its second wave."

"We have more kids dying of flu this year at this time than in the last decade or more," he said. "At the same time people are worrying about going to a Chinese restaurant. The threat is (we have) a pretty bad influenza season, particularly dangerous for our children."

Right fucking there! On February fucking 18th, 19 fucking days after Trump restricted travel from China, we have one of the "experts" everyone tells us to listen to, literally downplaying the threat from the Wuhan Virus, and literally telling Americans to stop worrying about the Wuhan Virus and worry more about the seasonal flu. Oh and of course to go out and hug as many Chinese people as possible!

Gee I can't POSSIBLY imagine why around this time Trump was saying it wasn't any worse than the flu. One of his fucking experts, the man thinking he's now king, was telling the country the flu was worse than the Wuhan Virus.

FEBRUARY FUCKING 29TH: https://www.today.com/video/dr-fauci-on-coronavirus-fears-no-need-to-change-lifestyle-yet-79684677616

There is no need to change anything you're doing on a day to day basis. Right now the risk is still low.

And now little fuck nuggets like you are trying to gaslight Americans into believing the experts were warning us way back in fucking December while Trump ignored them because he cared more about the stock market than people, and yet almost in fucking MARCH the experts were saying the risk was low to Americans and there was no need for Americans to change anything they are doing on a day to day basis.

You are just absolutely the worst. Yesterday I was thinking maybe Keller was the worst. But no, it's still you.

April 12th:
27,421 cases, down 2,582 from April 11th.
1528 deaths, down 302 from April 12th.

Last Sunday also saw a dip in the number of cases and deaths only for them to go back up the following day so there is either a lag in reporting on Sunday for some reason or this is a good sign.

Either way NY and NJ continue to make up a disproportionate number of the new cases and new deaths.

NY and NJ had 44% of the new cases and 61% of the new deaths, meaning their share of the new cases are trending back up again and their share of the new deaths are way up over the past couple of days, meaning the other states continue to improve their situation.

I'll be very happy if we get the continued positive trend here. We are dangerously close in the US of hitting the 4.0% death / known cases mark. I expect it will still trend upwards because deaths tend to lag from known cases. But as known cases come down, within a week or so the deaths should show a corresponding basis point drop. If we catch it soon, I'll be wrong and we won't hit 4.5 - 6 %.

That's great news! Now, if we can just land a vaccine, the balance of the year begins to normalize.

By comparison, the 2017-2018 flu season had 61K deaths with other years hovering around 30-40ish.

We've shut down the whole economy for this. Suicide hotline calls are way up, opioid abuse is now even more of a concern and domestic abuse/child protective services cannot even get to all the houses.

Keller: clueless and not following social distancing guidelines

I was reading a study last night that showed how fast a state implemented shelter-at-home orders made no difference, meaning that most likely what people were already voluntarily doing (washing hands, not touching face, social distancing) was already working, the lockdowns were completely unnecessary.

I also heard that several countries have conducted research showing that casual exposure to an infected person isn't likely to spread the virus, it would take prolonged exposure, which is why places like nursing homes and cruise ships are breeding grounds for the virus whereas the chances of getting the virus from someone while out shopping is minuscule.

But King Fauci has decreed he knows best, even though he has admitted he doesn't know much about the virus at all, so if he says we'll stay locked up until summer then I guess that's what we're doing.

Even the biggest estimates were what.. couple hundred thousand people lose their lives? Let's say a million even. It would take a great deal more than this virus to come back to have something "we wouldn't have anything to return to or recover"

Hyperbolic statements like this is why we're probably going overboard with our strategy now...

Two things - you did catch the conditional, I hope. "If this had gone the other way", and "so that we can avoid". That is not hyperbolic - especially for this forum.

Based on our actions undertaken, we will take time, too long in my view, to return to where we were. But I will not be placing any acceptable loss threshold. A million? Let's not say that.

Action: social distancing.

Effects: shut down the economy and mitigate the spread of the virus.

This thread: Can you believe this fakepandemic!? Way less people are dying than the models predicted. Why did we shut the economy down over this?

That's exactly the reason why. This virus was going to spread regardless. Flattening the curve was solely about easing the supposed load on hospitals. The problem is that the models are WAY off on what was needed. The models already presupposed social distancing tactics as well. They are completely wrong.

Yes, it is. It also kind of supports the point that drastic action did exactly what we wanted. We will need better data before we can totally invalidate the top-most line, for example. And if we're not watching the data, it would appear that Sweden may give us our chance, along with France, Italy and all the other countries that waited well into the cycle to try to impose harsh restrictions on interactions.

My point was more directed to the inflection of projected deaths. That point is the core point of the breaking news cycles, as well. Last week screaming about ventilators that are no longer needed because (insert the person fitting your narrative here) took prompt action isn't in today's news. Mostly.

I think we should all be thankful that the God King Trump was in office during this crisis, one none of us have seen in our lifetime. His actions have reduced the predicted hospital stays by over 200,000. It's almost a miracle.

There was no presupposition. The model starts with noting when, not judging if. I would enjoy seeing a more correct and accurate model, as I've mentioned. Data, sources, just as provided. Would be very welcome. Also not any more likely than an accurate forecast of the flu season. But I'm open to a happy review, when such a model presents itself.

That's not entirely true. He said he delivered pizzas to his neighbors, breaking the law the Governor put in place. Clearly he does what he wants, regardless of what is asked of him.

I imagine some of those neighbors had young teenage daughters.. which would explain his incessant need to visit them.

In fact I do not. But people here whose opinion I value seem to suggest that if the lock down were to continue through the summer, it might make the economy collapse. The economy collapsing I would say may be a point where we do not have anything to recover. Not a depression, a collapse.

Do you have something specific you would point to as "must be avoided", Parkbandit?

The models are all interesting only when applied to a purpose. At the end of the day the only thing I really want to walk away from all of this with (besides losing - we're over 4% as of this point) is a better approach to the next time a totally unknown no existing immunity new pandemic begins.

I think I would say everything Tgo01 starts with (wash hands, no face-touching, cover coughs / sneezes, only exchange bodily fluids with those you want to spend the rest of your life with no matter how brief, and so on) should be easy to implement at any time an unknown and new pandemic begins.

I would say shutting down municipalities and businesses needs to be a tool we keep in reserve - but not one we whip out arbitrarily. I would say that action and like deeply distressing actions needs a better plan of roll-out and recovery. I would say that action also needs to be coordinated. It does zero good, as we discovered, for a state to undertake it themselves while neighboring states still accept travelers in. Bad blood all around.

And I believe we have to be in a better position to test, isolate and get data quickly so we can decide how far to go, not guess how far to go / not go. Any contribution in those areas I would enjoy seeing. You see, I have very few answers, a few more predictions / hypotheses, and a whole lot of questions.

Everyone staying at home and shutting down the entire economy was already baked into the predictions.

This is why everyone is asking why couldn't we just social distance as much as possible without shutting everything down, everyone wash their hands all the time and always wear a mask out in public.

April 12th:
27,421 cases, down 2,582 from April 11th.
1528 deaths, down 302 from April 12th.

Last Sunday also saw a dip in the number of cases and deaths only for them to go back up the following day so there is either a lag in reporting on Sunday for some reason or this is a good sign.

Very good news, the trend has indeed continued into Monday so Sunday wasn't just an outlier, although it's still too early to call 2 days a trend, but it's a good sign.

April 13th:
26,641 cases, down 780 from April 12th.
1,535 deaths, up 7 from April 12th.

As usual NY and NJ make up a disproportionate number of both new cases and new deaths, but even they are finally showing some good signs.

NY and NJ had 34% of the new cases and and 50% of the new deaths.

The number of new cases on April 13th are just 2k higher than they were 14 days ago, that's how the curve works, up then down.

The number of new deaths on both April 12th and 13th were both lower than the previous 5 days, although this number will most likely go up again before this is all over.

In more...laughable news...NY and their neighboring states announced that they are going to announce the formation of a group of experts to...someday announce when they will announce the opening of the economy.

Let's ignore how badly prepared the airports were to take the surge of passengers coming back.

That's hardly anyone's fault really. This is literally the first time something like this has ever happened. The closest we have to a pandemic crisis of this size was back in 1918 and there sure weren't international flights back then. No one could have predicted tens of thousands of Americans all rushing back to get home on the same day, much less how the airports would deal with that. I'm sure this is something the US will be prepared for in case something like this happens again in the future.

Let's ignore the feds seizing shipments of ppe, etc.

People wanted Trump to declare a national emergency, get FEMA involved, and use the defense production act then as soon as he does everyone bitches that Trump declared a national emergency, got FEMA involved, and used the defense production act.

They were still downplaying the threat in March, but yah. They did a wonderful job.

Everyone was downplaying the threat in March, including Fauci. I'm just saying the narrative that certain people were peddling was the experts knew way back in December and warned Trump but he ignored the warnings, now we are seeing the experts were caught with their pants down but Trump listened to them the first time they warned him.

I'm sure there's lots of blame to go around, mostly with China and the WHO, but it's time to stop claiming that if only Orange Man weren't so bad we could have avoided all of this.

Nah, we won't be prepared because shitbags like Cumo will sell off stockpiles, folks like DeBlasio's wife will continue to waste nearly a billion dollars on a diversity boondoggle and people like Newsom will continue to provide under the table support to illegals in defiance of the law. And then there will be the people that will hold this up as some triumph of effective management and say "see, we didn't need those supplies so why do we want to spend money on stockpiling them now?"

"If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: For it is written, 'He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.'" (Luke 4:9–13) citing Psalms 91:12.

Once more, Jesus maintained his integrity and responded by quoting scripture, saying, "Again it is written, 'You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.'" (Matthew 4:7) quoting Deuteronomy 6:16.

You've been listing dead musicians from the virus with much sadness, yet I get a sense of joy and perhaps you think vindication in this post, which puzzles me.

I don't think any of the dead musicians were flaunting the virus, or claiming that they talk to God and were thus protected from the virus. I'm not sure vindication is the right term, but what do you call it when someone flaunts danger and dies as a result? 99.999% of all pastors, including mine, have been able to practice social distancing with their congregations, because they understand that the danger is real. A large meeting being of a religious nature doesn't provide immunity.

Then of course you have the late night charlatans like Keneth Copeland who took a break from selling prayer cloths, to claim to be able to blow the virus away with the wind of God.

I don't have as much sympathy as I probably should, for people who let their arrogance get in the way of tending their flock in an appropriate manner. A lot of pastors are doing a great job, guys like this are the opposite.

How to treat COVID-19 if you actually get it.. no it’s not to run to the dr or ER 50 times. I mean, the point of social distancing is to avoid overrunning the medical system to save bed space for those who really, really need it, so... If you're sick, STAY HOME!

For anyone worrying about this virus...

Sharing:

Good advice from a nurse on Twitter if you should get the virus: I know we’re all tired of hearing/talking about it, but one thing I HAVEN’T really seen going around is advice for what happens if you DO get coronavirus (many of us will), we're only seeing advice for how to try to AVOID it. So as your friendly neighborhood RN, a wee thread:

Things you should *actually* buy ahead of time (Erm, not sure what the obsession with toilet paper is?): Kleenex, Acetaminophen (Tylenol) in 325 mg tablets, Ibuprofen (Advil) in 200 mg tablets, Mucinex, Robitussin or DayQuil/NyQuil, whatever your cough medicine of choice is.

If you don’t have a humidifier, that would also be a good thing to get. (You can also just turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom breathing in the steam). Also a good time to make a big batch of your favorite soup to freeze and have on hand.
If you have a history of asthma and you have a prescription inhaler, make sure the one you have isn’t expired and refill it/get a new one if it is.

You basically just want to prepare as though you know you’re going to get a nasty respiratory bug like bronchitis or pneumonia. You just have the foresight to know it’s coming.

For symptom management, use the meds I mentioned. For a fever over 101, alternate Tylenol and Advil so you’re taking a dose of one or the other every 3 hours. Use both cough suppressants and expectorants (most cough meds have both). Drink a ton, hydrate hydrate. Rest lots.

If you're sick, you should not be leaving your house except to go to the doctor, and if you do, wear a mask (regular is fine, you don’t need an N95). You DO NOT NEED TO GO TO THE ER unless you are having trouble breathing or your fever is very high and unmanaged with meds.

90% of healthy adult cases thus far have been managed at home with basic rest/hydration/over-the-counter meds. We don’t want to clog the ERs unless you’re actually in distress. The hospital beds will be used for people who apamctively need oxygen/breathing treatments/IV fluids.

If you have a pre-existing lung condition (COPD, emphysema, lung cancer) or are on immunosuppressants, now is a great time to talk to your PCP or specialist about what they would like you to do if you get sick. They might have plans to get you admitted and bypass the ER entirely.

One major relief to you parents is that kids do VERY well with coronavirus— they usually bounce back in a few days, no one under 18 has died, and almost no kids have required hospitalization (unless they have a lung disease like CF).
Just use pediatric dosing of the same meds.

*New Deliverance Evangelistic Church members and friends*

We will not have Sunday School tomorrow morning.
We will have prayer from 9am - 9:30am followed by an abbreviated service at 9:30.

If you feel comfortable, you are welcome to join us! We will be following all hand washing and sanitizing guidelines! We will also be practicing social distancing as well!

We ABSOLUTELY trust God AND our Pastor

Be well.

You can even see a video of the last service he held which shows people practicing social distancing and the church is mostly empty, not "packed" like "news" outlets have been claiming.

Keep in mind this was the LAST service he ever held. The very next day the state issued their shelter-in-place orders and the pastor complied.

The pastor's WHOLE POINT was that he felt churches and other places of worship should have been considered essential so people could still go and practice their faith in this dark and scary time.

But apparently wanting to bring hope and grace into people's lives is a sin these days worthy of death and ridicule after said death.

I would think a normal person would read everything from the Church's Facebook page and realize they have been duped by the media pushing their agenda and this man didn't do anything wrong, but since the information is coming from me I have a feeling you will just dismiss it all.

I'm agnostic and I think it's absolutely disgusting the way some Democrats are demonizing Christians over this. Maybe it's time you did some serious soul searching.

Here. Here is the same story from the Fox News perspective, complete with quotes from the pastor.

The coronavirus has killed a prominent Virginia pastor who told his congregation at a service in March, “I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus.”

Bishop Gerald Glenn founded New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Chesterfield, outside Richmond. He died Saturday. The church announced his death on Easter.

Glenn spoke about the coronavirus on March 22, at his last known public service, days after Virginians were urged to avoid large non-essential gatherings of more than 10 people.

(ad removed here)

On March 23, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam turned it into an order requiring nonessential businesses closed and banning all gatherings of more than 10 people.

“I firmly believe that God is larger than this dreaded virus. You can quote me on that,” Glen told his followers, according to the New York Post.

Calling himself “controversial” and “in violation” of safety protocols – with “way more than 10 people” at the church – he vowed to keep his church open “unless I’m in jail or the hospital,” according to the Post.

“I am essential,” he said of remaining open, adding, “I’m a preacher — I talk to God,” according to the paper.

Like I said. Most religious leaders have managed to minister to their flocks via the same zoom, webex, and vimeo technology thar the rest of the world is using. As a religious person, i sympathize with the desire to worship together, but not at the expense of lives of not only those worshipping, but everyone they come in contact with.

Why would I care what Fox News has to say?

I knew the story didn't sound right when the only quote they had was from him was saying he would keep the church open and stating it happened on March 22, which was just a few days after the national guidelines went into place. These "news" sites are acting like he was preaching until April 10th or something.

If you want an example of actual dangerous religious leaders look here: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-pakistan-congregat-idUSKCN21V0T4?taid=5e945213922b190001d7ee8f&utm_campaign=true

Durrani, 52, is among thousands of devout Muslims flouting Pakistan government orders issued late last month banning religious congregations of five or more people to stem the spread of the coronavirus. The disease has so far infected more than 5,300 people and killed 93 in the world’s second-most populous Muslim country.

“Our prayer leader told us that the virus can’t infect us the way it does Western people,” Durrani told Reuters. “He said we wash our hands and we wash our face five times a day before we say our prayers, and the infidels don’t, so we need not worry. God is with us.”

Oh and there are videos of these Mosques with people praying close together like they usually do and the cleric hugging, kissing, and touching everyone like he was a Muslim Joe Biden.

Prior history of discounting Trump's position publicly, coupled with the logical timing of spinning up a separate group to re-open while a smaller group continues to monitor the national situation.

Fauci may continue with the second (monitoring) group, but Trump can just not invite him to the first (plans on re-opening group), and still retain his position of 'not dismissing Fauci'.

The city has added more than 3,700 additional people who were presumed to have died of the coronavirus but had never tested positive.

Fuck this. Right when we started having some good news in both new cases AND new deaths NYC suddenly pulls 3700 MORE deaths out of their asses because they were "presumed" to have died from the Wuhan virus.

April 14th:
26,945 cases, up 304 from April 13th but still basically flat.
2,407 deaths, up 872 from April 13th but that was expected.

NY and NJ made up 44% of new cases and 48% of new deaths.

Ok, I will admit to three things here:

First, I didn't read the entirety of the article. Way too much bullshit in it for me to try to keep straight in my head which side of the story narrative was speaking at any point in time. Jumbled articles like this infuriate me.

Second, the numbers the article reports (New York over 10,000, etc) are all in line with the Worldometer data that I do watch carefully. Interestingly, that site has a footnote that says the additional 3700 New York deaths will be added "to the New York State total as soon as it is determined whether the historical distribution can be obtained". That means that the numbers in the article reflect the actual tracked Worldometer site numbers to date, without the 3700 additional deaths at this point in time

Third, there is some application when properly applied in the entire "who died during the event who may not have died if" scenario that these yokes are trying to justify this under. I hope it bites them in the ass when we return to semi-normal and someone monitors the deaths that occur because the state of the union is so depressed. Of course, there will be those that try to claim it is just a lingering effect, and belongs in the "total deaths caused by Covid 19". I hope someone starts counting the "total deaths caused by not-Covid 19 stupid". We still have a lot to learn about this stuff for the next time.

That box should have been left shut so as to limit speculation. Instead, we took it out and embraced it. I hope it bites them. Right in the ass.
