As for Burr and his meeting, it was The Tarheel Club, entry cost $10,000. I don't think we can equate that with "open to the public."

Here is what Burr had to say:

This lunch was hosted on Feb. 27 by the North Carolina State Society. It was publicly advertised and widely attended.

NPR knew, but did not report, that attendees also included many non-members, bipartisan congressional staff, and representatives from the governor’s office.

Every state has a state society. They aren’t “secretive” or “high-dollar donor” organizations. They’re great civic institutions that bring people in D.C. together for events, receptions, and lunches.

And they’re open to anyone who wants to get involved.

Like most members of Congress, I address our state society every year.

That a good thing. That’s what we should be doing.

Meeting constituents and talking to them about the work we’re doing in D.C. is an important part of our job, especially in times of uncertainty.

Of course Burr could be lying but considering the scrutiny he is under and considering how easy it would be to verify these claims I am leaning towards him being truthful here, at least until I have more information from sources that don't come directly from NPR or Daily Beast.

Burr said it wasn't a high-dollar donor event. He could be lying of course but it would be nice to know what the truth is.

Who is saying it was a 10,000 dollar ticket event?

Unless Burr is doing some political speak: It wasn't a high-dollar DONOR event, just a high-dollar event.

Gelston

It is minimum $500 to join the Tarheel Circle, which gets you tickets for such events. The top tier membership is 10k. Some folks there did pay 10k, but some also paid $500, and it wasn't JUST for that event.

And yes, their acronym is THC.

This was even worse in China. Old Chinese men died at a rate 6x that of old chinese women. The presumed causation? Smoking. Chinese men, especially old men, smoke far more than women.

The moral of the story is don't smoke!

You believe the mortality rate of this virus will be that high? I think you are way way way off. Like by a factor of 100-1000 off

Not believe - bet. And I'd like to be way wrong. Like by a factor of 100 - 1000. Today's tally stands at over 3% globally, or 11% globally depending on how you look at the numbers. My favorite (and should be Tgo01's too, since they ditched the WHO as a source of their data - with reasons) tracker site. Scanning is ok, but reading is better.

The US mortality rate has actually been falling the past couple of days as the US has ramped up testing capabilities. From what I have heard the US is now capable of testing more people per day than any other country in the world.

The mortality rate as of now in the US is still alarming, but it's about 1.28% at the moment, earlier in the week it was near 2%.

But this is what I have been saying all along; right now most of the entire world is only testing people showing symptoms, in countries such as Italy only people showing extreme symptoms because they don't have the testing capacity to test many people, so the mortality rate is very heavily skewed right now because we are mostly testing sick people/really sick people, so it stands to reason a lot of them might die.

But now that everyone in the US is getting tested even if they had minor symptoms/symptoms from another virus such as the cold or flu it's lowering the mortality rate.

AND SO WE DON'T HAVE A REPEAT LIKE LAST TIME I AM PUTTING THIS SENTENCE IN ALL CAPS FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE OUT THERE, I AM NOT SAYING THIS TREND IS 100% FOR SURE GOING TO CONTINUE, IT COULD EASILY CHANGE FOR THE WORSE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, I AM JUST GOING BY THE DATA WE HAVE AT THE MOMENT.

Tgo01
03-20-2020, 04:12 PM
South Korea's mortality rate is currently at 1.15%, just slightly lower than the US' current mortality rate, but considering how many more people the US has the US has a much lower overall mortality rate. So I guess we can stop patting South Korea on the back and start patting the US on the back.

Even with a .0115 mortality rate, we are looking at just under 1,000,000 dead in the US alone.

That's using the low end infection rates sited from Harvard, which is projecting between a 20 - 60 % infection rate in the US.

Yeah the US mortality rate is still not good, I just think the real mortality rate isn't that high because we are still only testing people with symptoms or people who have been in close contact with someone who tested positive, not to mention the people out there who do have symptoms but probably just think it's a cold or the flu so aren't being tested.

Still rationing tests here in Minnesota. More sobering: medical professionals are running out of masks, and are being told that when they run out, they should use bandanas. I kid you not.

On my neighborhood listserv, an ICU nurse asked if people would be willing to sew masks for healthcare professionals. The neighborhood is on it big time. There are videos on YouTube on how to make them.

We are at 115 cases now, 14 days after first case. Makes you wonder how many actual cases there are. Estimates range from 10x to 50x confirmed number.

I've been working from home since Tuesday. 2 of 16 company offices are now closed, while most construction sites continue to build, but at limited ability. Last year's gross income was about 2.1 billion with a nice bonus. This year I'm hoping to stay employed.

One of the few unknowns that might work in our favor is whether the virus will not do well when the temperature gets warmer. Warmer temperatures may do little or nothing to the virus, but on the other hand the virus may die more easily in warmer weather and therefore be more difficult to spread. But we just don't know either way.

Immigration had nothing to do with how the coronavirus reached our shores, it was from a Washington State resident who was traveling in Wuhan China. The failure of the president in restricting travel and implementing quarantine protocols on overseas travelers as soon as his intelligence agencies reported the emergence is at fault. Bad news is the US now has almost 37k confirmed cases, over 700 people in severe or critical condition, 392 deaths, and only 178 people have officially recovered so far.

We have a ways to go before we know the true mortality rate, but going by the WHO's definition of mortality rate you just take the number of confirmed deaths and divide it by the number of confirmed cases.

What an idiot. The President failed to institute an aggressive viral response and in doing so allowed a citizen who visited Wuhan China to bring the contagion to our shores. Trump new weeks ahead of his 1/31 limited travel restrictions and yet in only restricting foreigners from China, exposed his country. Again your attempts at deflection are pitiful.

Trump "allowed" that to happen? You mean CHINA allowed that to happen by keeping this a secret from their own citizens for over a month, then kept it a secret from the world for a month after that.

Actually he's one of the most well respected epidemiologists on the planet. He literally wrote the book warning everyone that this is coming. But since he's critical of the president, you will ignore his advice and slander him.

There's little question that a massive testing and tracking effort was the right approach from the get go, hell it's the normal approach for epidemics, but we went with the "don't worry, it'll be fine" approach.

No way we could have followed the South Koreans' approach, you really have to stop repeating this already.

South Korea was literally tracking people they thought might be infected and the people who were infected, using GPS location from their cell phones and credit card purchases and making this information available online to the general public so they knew who to stay away from.

You really think shit like that was going to happen in the US? I can think of a few conflicts with the constitution and at least 2 laws being broken just off the top of my head.

going by the WHO's definition of mortality rate you just take the number of confirmed deaths and divide it by the number of confirmed cases.

We don't like the WHO. Why use a poor metric from a politically unreliable source? The better metric while the pandemic is live is 'deaths / recovered or discharged'. Using 'confirmed cases' while the pandemic is live is misleading. Look at China, which seems to be in the final throes of their exposure as a good source. Updating on the Princess has stopped, probably to help protect private information.

Quick stats check

Category Deaths / Closed (recover / discharge)
Overall: 14,611 / 97, 588 = 13%
China: 3,261 / 72,440 = 4.5%
Iran: 1,685 / 7,635 = 22%
France: 674 / 2,200 = 30%

They take names out of the data. It's no worse than what's done via the patriot act. Instead, we're going to spend trillions propping up the economy after watching it fall apart. South Korea has controlled it without social distancing.

But sure, if you don't like money, let's stick with limited testing. Virtually no medical professionals agree with you though.

Because that's what everyone is using as a reliable source, trying to show how silly their reliable source is.

Also I don't think deaths / recovered or discharged is a good metric either because we are still ignoring all of the people who have never been tested and will never be tested.

We need the experts to start getting some estimates going of how many people are infected, like they do with the flu and past outbreaks, but that probably won't happen until this thing runs its course worldwide.

China flat out lying about how many infections and deaths they have had doesn't help. They supposedly stopped reporting new "mild" cases. The same with Iran and so on. But even with listening to WHO Trump was still proactive in shutting down travel from China, Iran, South Korea, and then Europe.

Because Trump and the Republicans have been seen as leading the US through this crisis while the Democrats have been shitting their pants like scared babies.

It's no coincidence that the Senate Democrats blocked the Republican stimulus bill on the same day that Pelosi announced House Democrats are crafting their own bill. The last thing Democrats want now is to give Republicans a "win" so they want to make sure their plan is the one that succeeds.

In other words the Democratic party is showing once again they are nothing but terrorists who are willing to let innocent Americans suffer as long as it means they gain more power, then they will have their little Chinese propaganda spreading apologists such as Seran praise them for being great leaders in this trying time.

I'm struggling to keep up. Just because I might disagree with something posted by you, Tgo, I'd be labeled a Trump-hater?

Don't get me wrong; I'll clarify my position. Trump is not a presidential president. Trump has managed to get an amazing amount of shit moving. Trump has brought a more business-thrive mentality to the White House. Trump does not lead with clear vision and crystal intent. Trump is always looking for someone to push out with a blame statement. Trump is divisive, at times necessarily, and at times causing chaos. Trump does the typical CEO thing of not sharing, and does a poor job of delegating effectively. I also wonder if Trump really set his own team at the outset - or if it was the party recommendations that started the raft of revolving-door syndrome we experienced.

I'm not a Trump-hater at all. But Trump sure as hell could have done more and done it better. That exact same statement is true at every level of leadership, without regard to party, in our government. No one shined. Instead, every time I turn around, I have to listen to bickering (much of it repeated here) that simply leads us nowhere.

That's my quandary. Trump's done pretty well, in many cases. The democratic pool of nominees to contend with him are not inspiring. But Trump is far from an ideal president. I expect more. Trump-hater? Hardly. Trump-realist.

Trump released his fiscal year 2020 federal budget proposal in March, recommending huge cuts across the federal government, including a 12 percent cut to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and a 10 percent cut for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

At CDC, a reduction of that magnitude equates to a $750 million spending cut over fiscal year 2019. APHA member John Auerbach, MBA, president and CEO of Trust for America’s Health, said the proposed CDC cuts not only threaten federal public health capacity, they would have a “devastating” impact on state and local public health departments, which depend heavily on CDC dollars flowing down to the community level

The wet markets, they supposedly banned... are still open and people are still going there. I tried to get to Hong Kong to get out... failed....there were literally thousands and thousands of people at the Shenzhen/Hong Kong border. Riot police were there pushing and beating people.

In regards to Russia, I did a quarantine there when I finally got back. Spent a week or so in a military hospital with about 300 other people, with the majority testing positive for covid19. I was in Guangzhou, and the city was a ghost town, right before Chinese New Year and a week or two after that. The cancelling of the Chinese New Years festivals... that was bullshit... it was in full swing. Other than that. It’s extremely bad, what you are hearing it’s all bullshit.
Hospitals in Guangzhou are still getting covid19 cases. My friend is a doctor. She’s dealing with new patients right now. The Chinese honestly have no idea what they are doing.

Moscow is in full lock down, I went to a smaller city, Volgograd before I headed to Italy.. and people there don’t even care. Lots of misinformation and downplaying of information in Russia and China

None of that sounds fun in the slightest bit. Hope you get home soon.

Other than work I have only left the house once in the past week, and that was just to get more groceries. And I'm not even close to an area that has been hit hard yet, at least not that we know of anyways.

People still going to beaches, playing basketball, going golfing, like come on, people, can't you stop that shit for at least 2 weeks like the president and governors have asked?

Democrats voted against the American family relief bill yet AGAIN.

It's not even the final vote, it's merely a vote to get to the debate stage of the bill, but Democrats don't even want to get that far. It will probably be 2-3+ days before the final bill is voted on once the Senate gets passed this hurdle but Democrats don't even want to do this much for the American worker and family.

It's been a fun experiment letting the Democratic party pretend they are a real political party in the US, but it's time we ended this experiment.

If you lost your job or are going to lose your job and could really use some help during this crisis, just keep in mind that Democrats shot down the bill that would have provided relief to workers and businesses in part for the following two reasons:

They wanted tax credits for more wind and solar energy production.
They wanted new standards for airlines emissions.

Yes that's right, Democrats are literally holding American families hostage until they get parts of their Green New Deal bullshit rammed through Congress.

Because Democrats don't want another 2008 bailout that provided golden parachutes for the investment markets who created their garbage funds and over leveraged.

Democratic leadership wants guarantees that funds will be used to keep businesses open and be used to retain employee's and pay benefits. Even the President has signed off on employee's being the focus. Our retail economy isn't going to be propped up by fund mangers and CEOs getting massive bonuses from stock buybacks and debt reduction, it's going to be by the 90% of workers who spend the majority of the earnings on living expenses, necessities and yes even luxury goods. This is what Democratic leadership has demanded to be included in the bill. Try as he might McConnel isn't going to shame Democrats into selling out the general populace into ending debate so a simple Republican majority can bail out it's big donors.

Remember how the media went into a frenzy saying Trump was giving everyone false hope and also the media tried to scare people away from taking it because 2 grams of the drug could kill someone? Because surely doctors are stupid enough to give people a lethal dosage and we need the media of all people to keep us safe?

The national shortage of N95 respirator masks can be traced back to 2009 after the H1N1 swine flu pandemic, when the Obama administration was advised to replenish a national stockpile but did not, according to reports from Bloomberg News and the Los Angeles Times.

Baton Rouge church hosts more than 1,800 people amid COVID-19 outbreak (https://wgno.com/news/health/coronavirus/louisiana-church-hosts-more-than-1800-people-amid-covid-19-outbreak)

CENTRAL, LA. (FOX 44) (LOCAL 33) – The Life Tabernacle Church hosted 1,825 people at their Sunday morning service.

26 buses were used to pick people up from around the Baton Rouge area and transport them to Sunday service.

Pastor Tony Spell says the way to handle a pandemic is through the healing hand of Jesus.

That is our command, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.

Social distancing did not happen at the service, held outside. All 1,825 people were spread across the campuses seven buildings.

Throughout the service parishioners could be seen touching each other and closely gathering, very few wearing masks or gloves.

Spell says if anyone in his congregation contracts covid-19 he will heal them through God.

“I’m going to address that by laying hands on them and praying for them and depending on God to heal their body,” Spell said.

Governor Edwards when asked addressed the controversial service with his same message from the beginning.

“I would urge that faith leaders and all faith leaders to heed this directive and not necessarily engage in mass gatherings where this coronavirus can spread,” Edwards said.

Spell says Pastors must act as first responders.

“When the paramedics can’t get there, when the law enforcement can’t get there, the holy ghost can get there it will make a difference in someone’s life,” Spell said.

Pastor Tony Spell says 1,000 covered lunches were served, 9 water baptisms took place and parishioners donated 30 pints of blood.

Dem Rep. Told Colleagues Coronavirus Bill Is ‘Tremendous Opportunity to Restructure Things to Fit Our Vision’ (https://news.yahoo.com/dem-rep-told-colleagues-coronavirus-145245071.html)

https://s.yimg.com/ny/api/res/1.2/vcB63gNMIwsmiH0QJq2Vhg--/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTcwNTtoPTM5Ni41NjI1/https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/cvgch.CPfLuA.3czNYFhIg--~B/aD01NzY7dz0xMDI0O3NtPTE7YXBwaWQ9eXRhY2h5b24-/https://media.zenfs.com/en-US/the_national_review_738/fbcf8b84df9e205d28a252fb23d9f85e

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) worked to scupper the phase-three coronavirus relief package on Sunday after Majority Whip James Clyburn (D., S.C.) told caucus members last week that the bill was “a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

Clyburn’s comments came on a Thursday call featuring more than 200 House Democrats, during which caucus members laid out a list of provisions they wanted to be included in the Senate’s trillion-dollar package.

Republicans have said that Democrats have reportedly demanded increased bargaining powers for unions, as well as environmental regulations for airlines and more wind and solar tax credits.

Pelosi flew into Washington, D.C. over the weekend to add demands to negotiations, a move that Senate Republicans have cited as the reason why the procedural vote to fast-track the legislation fell by a party-line vote on Sunday night.

Speaking after the vote, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) slammed Democrats for playing politics in a time of crisis.

“All of a sudden, the Democratic leader and the speaker of the House shows up and we’re back to square one,” McConnell said, saying the shift amounted to “obstruction.”

“We’re fiddling here, fiddling with the emotions of the American people, fiddling with the markets, fiddling with our health care. The American people expect us to act tomorrow,” McConnell said. “And I want everybody to fully understand if we aren’t able to act, it’ll be because of our colleagues on the other side continuing to dicker when the country expects us to come together and address this problem.”

Listening to these reporters grill Trump about his Easter Day timeline for reopening the economy it sure sounds like the media wants the economy closed forever.

Do these people have any idea about the long term effects if the economy is closed for months? We are talking entire industries shutting down and never opening back up. Have these people been living their privileged life for so long that they think food just magically appears in their fridge? We need farmers out there growing food, in order to grow food we need people out there drilling for oil, in order to get food to the grocery store we need truckers moving that food, none of that is going to last too long if we keep the economy closed for months.

At some people we have to decide what is worse: people dying from this disease, or people dying from suicide and starvation because they are locked in their homes for months. I read earlier that Portland, Oregon is already responding to a 26% increase to suicide attempts since their lock down was implemented. But let's keep this lock down going for months!!

Also the fake news is working overtime in regards to the Chinese virus. I've been watching Trump's daily briefings every single day and this is how the conversation went today.

Trump: I would like to reopen the economy in a couple of weeks.
Reporters: OMG! Is it a good idea to stop all of these measures you have been asking of people and asking them to go back to work?!?!?
Trump: We can do both, we can open up the economy and still ask people to do social distancing, ask them to wash their hands more often, and ask them to not touch their face.
MSNBC headline in regards to this discussion: Trump eager to end social distancing as virus spreads faster (https://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/watch/trump-eager-to-end-social-distancing-as-virus-spreads-faster-81132101988)

I can see why the media is in a hurry to stop broadcasting Trump's daily briefings, can't have people watch the president and get the information directly from him. No no no! Gotta filter his message through the media who will honestly and accurately tell us what he said.

They initially refused me entry as the border is closed and I don’t carry my marriage certificate with me... couldn’t prove I had relatives in Russia. A small bribe and a picture of it, got me through...

I personally think this is a stupid idea... while I agree people want life to return to normal, we don’t always get why we want... saying we can work and do social distancing at the same time, easier said then done. Unless you aren’t actively thinking about it, you won’t do it. This virus will spread even faster than before.... should just shut down the states for 2-4 weeks(also easier said than done)
It’s a difficult choice both ways. Glad I don’t have this responsibility.
A lot of people are to blame for this pandemic.
1. The Chinese of course. They are the MAIN reason for all this... anyone who says otherwise is fucking stupid. Having lived there for 5 fucking years... they are 100% the root of all this.
2. I do blame Trump partly, from what I read(could be wrong, feel free to correct me on this)... his not taking this pandemic seriously and mixed messaging also helped with the spread.
3. The retarded people... “if I get corona, I get corona!” Those types of idiots from the video you shared earlier..

Andrew Cuomo is receiving a lot of praise for this tweet of his:

My mother is not expendable. Your mother is not expendable.

We will not put a dollar figure on human life.

We can have a public health strategy that is consistent with an economic one.

No one should be talking about social darwinism for the sake of the stock market.

First: Give me a break. This is the same man that literally celebrated when he signed into law a bill that allowed women to have an abortion up until the moment of birth.
Secondly: While I get what he is going for, at some point society will simply break down and then a LOT more people will suffer.

What is going to happen when we stop making products that the world wants and these businesses setup shop in some other country? Those jobs wouldn't come back.

What happens when farmers stop farming and truckers stop trucking? No more food and no more products in the stores. The entire world is interconnected with a multitude of supply chains to keep everything running. Honestly I'm surprised shit hasn't already started falling apart, shit maybe it already has, but these people want to keep this going for possibly MONTHS more? Shit for sure would start breaking down by then and the US economy might never get back on track.

"You're putting money over people's lives!!" No, I'm looking at what scenario would result in more deaths: opening up the economy earlier and saving the US economy which would result in some people dying, or keeping the US economy shut for several months which would destroy the US economy for years, possibly even decades, which would result in tens of millions of people losing their jobs, people won't be able to afford medicine or food, people will get massive depression and suicide rates would sky rocket. The former is clearly the way to go.

I honestly can't help but think that Democrats and the media are willing to completely destroy the US economy JUST because they want to make Trump look bad. This is where we are at right now, fuck over 310+ million people just to make sure Trump loses an election in a few months.

To date this virus hasn't even killed as many people worldwide than the flu kills in the US every year.

Right now this virus has killed less than 2% of Americans compared to how many Americans die to the flu each year. Is this going to be a yearly thing now, we completely fuck our economy and ourselves to save a few lives at the expense of many more lives?

Donald Trump is not a dummy. He must know that what he is saying is highly improbable. He knows that three weeks from now we will not be ready to go to work. Three weeks from now, hospitals in many cities, not just New York and New Orleans, will be overwhelmed. We will be in a much worse situation than today. I believe he is saying we will be ready to return to work on April 12 in an attempt to reassure the markets. It worked! But what will he say two weeks from now in the midst of a much worse crisis when his words are quoted back to him?

The website everyone is getting their doomsday predictions from and that is demanding the economy close for weeks or even months appears to be run by a bunch of Democratic activists and their predictions have been wildly wrong so far.

COVID Act Now predicted that by March 19 the state of Tennessee could expect 190 hospitalizations of patients with confirmed Wuhan virus. By March 19, they only had 15 patients hospitalized.

Or in other words only 8% of their estimate ended up in the hospital.

In New York, Covid Act Now claimed nearly 5,400 New Yorkers would’ve been hospitalized by March 19. The actual number of hospitalizations is around 750. The site also claimed nearly 13,000 New York hospitalizations by March 23. The actual number was around 2,500.

19%.

In Georgia, COVID Act Now predicted 688 hospitalizations by March 23. By that date, they had around 800 confirmed cases in the whole state, and fewer than 300 hospitalized.

37%.

In Florida, Covid Act Now predicted that by March 19, the state would face 400 hospitalizations. On March 19, Gov. Ron DeSantis said 90 people in Florida had been hospitalized.

22%.

Oh yeah, these fuckers are recommending shutting down our entire country for THREE FUCKING MONTHS. There literally won't be a country left afterwards.

This is where government officials and journalists are getting all of their talking points from. This fucking site.

This site is literally fearmongering states like Missouri to shut down the state now or else there will be 12.5k hospitalizations by April 16th, which is only 22 days away.

Missouri currently has 356 cases total, not hospitalizations, just cases. I think NY said their number of cases was doubling every 4 days (and they are one the hardest hit state), meaning in 22 days we can expect this number to MAYBE double 5 times to 11,392 TOTAL CASES, still 1k fewer cases than this website is predicting HOSPITALIZATIONS, and I think the total hospitalization rate of NY is either 10 or 19%.

I wonder if the US is being taken for a ride. We have been hearing for close to a month now that patients would be dying in the streets and in hospital hallways because we can't keep up with demand and I haven't heard one story like that yet.
