A rugged suede armband.
The armband is well oiled and shows signs of great, great care. Flowing text formed from tiny polished onyx shards skillfully imbedded into the surface read -- "I love it when that candidate with perfect qualities falls into my clutches. They are so easy to corrupt. I gave them a few paltry powers and they gave me their souls. Their greed for power blinded them. Didn't they think there would be a price? Look into your hearts and see yourselves as you truly are; corrupted, blackened, stained by evil!"

I think the point is that the platinum fangs (or "canines") are part of a feature alteration as being able to constantly glimpse them between his lips. Okay. So this isn't a *really* bad alter...and the only reason why I looked at her was because she was being so fucking annoying in the park...and after I saw her outfit I understood why.
You see Kristen Noble.
She appears to be a Dark Elf.
She appears to be in the bloom of youth. She has long lashes framing her enchanting crystal green eyes and flawless dark skin. She has shimmering, tousled black hair that frames her small shoulders in silken tendrils. She has a set of perfect, pouting red lips that accentuate her delicate face.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing some sparkling starstone hairgems, a wispy silver neckwrap, a charming tight-laced leather corset with small silver wings peeking out the back, a darling little satchel, a delicate silver ring set with an enormous glittering diamond, a dainty wristlet of sparkling silver stars, a whimsical gossamer skirt with long fluttering silken wisps, some ancient silver ankle bands, and a pair of delicate glass slippers with curling toes.
"I'm a cute and pink fuzzy dark elf that bounces around all cutsie fru-fru type PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEEE!!!!"
She claimed she was drunk when Nalina started bitching about her behavior. I don't think drunk is the right problem.

That armor, I guess the corset..? Is from her other character Pixy. Actually, I think she shifted over the entire outfit from Pixy. The character Kristen's other stuff is slightly more tasteful and fitting with being a dark elf.

Did she take "navel" out cause it wasn't in there before? If so, that's good. They're supposed to not make new ones.
Only reason I got mine altered, is because it said navel ring originally, and the merchant made EVERYONE look at it to see she didnt do a new one.
>Did she take "navel" out cause it wasn't in there before? If so, that's good. They're supposed to not make new ones.
She took it out because she thought it was naval. You know, Ashrim, pirates, that whole deal.
She later got angry because apparently people were whispering to her when she did things that were against policy. Knight things, warlord warplates, things like that. She said that she might not like an idea, but it wasn't her place to deny a person something they wanted.
Which, while nice in principle, results in a lot of illegal or just plain bad alters.

She has a curved black diamond bar in the upper ridge of her left ear, a crimson-swept spiral stud in her lip, a tattooed symbol of Andelas on her ear, a cute mouse tattoo on her neck, and a pouncing kitten tattoo on her neck.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing a shiny silver waist chain, a gold ring, a small rose, some elven bloodstained robes, a silvery maoral box, a dark spidersilk satchel secured with invar rune-etched buckles, a spiderweb covered weapons harness, a black cat charm bracelet, a black cat's head-etched flask, a thin grey kitten bag with the Cat's Paw constellation embroidered into its surface, a carved onyx cat pin, some pink and black silk cat ears, a tiny furry mouse paw, a cobweb-covered jet black spidersilk cloak edged with silver silk trim, a cat-shaped onyx earcuff, a sinuous black fur tail, a catnip-trimmed black leather collar studded with sharp steel spikes, a pair of knee-high black leather boots ringed with spiked steel studs, a short black leather skirt, a gold ring, a sleek shadowy crystal pendant, a black strapless bodice, a whiskered black cat mask with emerald eyes, and some sparkling crystalline claws.

I know who has that cloak. No, it's not my character. But it doesnt bother me and she told me she got a bunch of compliments on the WD.
I think the objection is that... cloaks are practically shapeless, shrouding items of clothing. It's hard to think of a cloak clinging to every curve 'cause most of the designs I can think of in my head that fits are called something else.
As far as compliments goes... any time someone gets anything remotely sexy, especially if they're a girl IG, people like it. Everyone has their tastes, I guess.

LMFAO
I would pay you to, I swear it. And.. I've seen that before actually. It was just as hideous then as it is now.
As to the cloak that clings to every curve, it's a no-no because it's A) a cloak, it's loose by nature and unless she has static cling all over her body all the time, it wouldn't 'cling' to every curve at all. Ever.
and B) A cloak that clings to one person's curves wouldn't cling to everyone's curves so it's just wierd to word it like that. And what, when you take it off, it still manages to cling to every curve? I find that a bit hard to believe. "You see curvy woman. She's holding a cloak that manages to cling to every curve in her right hand". Okay so either she has curves in her hand (WTF) or the cloak is magical and seems to be able to cling to her body even when it's not ON it.
Sorry, just a no-no. No matter how many compliments.

Um. There are sheer, transparent fabrics. Gauze is capable of being one of them.
Um. There are sheer, transparent fabrics. Gauze is capable of being one of them.
I can't say I've ever seen a fabric that you couldn't actually see was there. Just for fun, dictionary.com:
trans·par·ent Audio pronunciation of "transparent" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (trns-pārnt, -pr-)
adj.
1. Capable of transmitting light so that objects or images can be seen as if there were no intervening material. See Synonyms at clear.
2. Permeable to electromagnetic radiation of specified frequencies, as to visible light or radio waves.
3. So fine in texture that it can be seen through; sheer. See Synonyms at airy.
4.
1. Easily seen through or detected; obvious: transparent lies.
2. Free from guile; candid or open: transparent sincerity.
5. Obsolete. Shining through; luminous.
So 3 seems to work for it, but I think most everyone thinks of 1 when they hear the word transparent.

Yeah but clean glass is nearly transparent. You can mostly see it through refraction, not absorption (unless it's really dirty/tinted). I can't think of a cloth that comes anywhere near as transparent as glass. Just playing devil's advocate really, I would have just worded it a bit differently.

In regards to the bloused pantaloons. I don't look at it the same way you guys do maybe because I'm weird. But I think of billowy, copious amounts of material that cause it to "blouse" out. The problem with the pantaloons, as I see it, is not that they blouse, and not that they're black. It's that they're worded oddly.
some black bloused pantaloons
Bloused is an acceptable singular adjective, as is black. But they're worded such that "black" becomes the primary adjective describing a subject, "bloused pantaloons." "Bloused pantaloons," become the proper name for the object, with "black" acting as the modifier.
They'd read better as bloused black pantaloons. That way, you get that they're pantaloons which are black, and also bloused, and not that they're pantaloons somehow oddly paired with a "black blouse."

The last few summers I've worked in the Mayan areas of Belize, Mexico and Guatemala, and in the Moche area of northern Peru. That's academic archaeology, it's on a "professors get the summer off," schedule.
The rest of the time I've worked for a Cultural Resource Management firm in Texas, doing what is basically salvage archaeology.

I wonder if Shaukal is both the original, and the old style pre-GS4 ambushing omni cleric he used to be.
As for the GM bags I've been told that should a GM get his hands on them, they'd be destroyed pretty quick. A good number of the 1000 item limit bags have been dyed, so be careful when buying.

Barbed wire would annoy me because it's completely period incorrect. Now I know the type of person to wear barbed wire and skulls most likely wouldn't care about being OOG as long as it looked KEWL but it would actually be more period correct to carry a winchester rifle than have barbed wire on an outfit.
Shari
02-23-2006, 05:31 PM
You are absolutely correct about the in-gameness of barbed wire. It wasn't invented yet. If I were designing something LIKE that, it would be more of something to the effect of, a length of wire studded along its length with curling thorns.
That way you could have the dangerous "kewl"ness and still be within the game's peramiters without saying "barbed wire".

I had a set of full leather called "some mage's battle leathers". Hated them. Wtf are mage's battle leathers? Doesn't make sense!
Got them altered at EG to "some worn leather armor." I like it alot more.
Good show, though:
Though well-oiled and supple, this set of armor looks to be quite old. Slashes mar its ebon-hued leather, telltale signs of its servitude in battle. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.

I look at it this way. The term "barbed wire" wasn't invented until 1873 when it was used for cattle fencing. I'm SURE that there was wire with some sort of barbed hooks or somesuch on it for a variety of reasons. Off the top of my head I know there is wire you can buy covered in tiny barbs to use as a kindof half-ass pocket saw to use while backpacking. I assume the garrots in game function the same way.

He appears to be very young and diminutive. He has bulging light hazel eyes and ashen skin. He has raggedly cut, stringy dark brown hair with tufts of grey behind the ears. He has a plump face, a bulbous nose and a tangled grey beard.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a lumpy and filthy pillow sewn together out of old socks and stuffed with tiny pebbles in his right hand.
He is wearing a crystal amulet, a silver-bladed dagger medallion, a hooded shadowy black gnomish prankster's cloak sewn completely out of dirty old socks, some double leather, a small metal device, a shadowy black gnomish device etched with an assortment of gears and gadgets, a shadowy black gnomish prankster's bag of tricks sewn entirely out of dirty old socks, a leather tinker gnome toolkit, some discolored skunk hide bloomers riddled with a multitude of holes, some socks, a shadowy black mithril-bound buckler, and a dark rat-shaped backpack.
Not that these alters are just horrendous because they aren't. The pillow made me chuckle anyhow. But..do you think he has enough things made of dirty old socks? And this is just a pet peeve, but how do I know that this is a gnomish prankster's cloak or a gnomish prankster's bag of tricks?

Well.. Kristen HAS said that she doesn't care about RP or being in genre.. so I just chuckle at the stuff she has made and carry on.
Beyond the whole out of genre/non RP thing, I like Kristen and I do find her alterations to be clever..
and, while the bedsheet dress may not be "appropriate" I wouldn't consider it out of genre.. It's not infeasible for someone to figure out how to wrap and pin a bedsheet so it's a covering like a dress. I mean given the other crazy stuff in Elanthia, I don't find that far-fetched..
I thnik it's the combination of items that are far-fetched, I spose. I wouldn't put them in bad alters (except for that dog carrier, because it IS too Paris Hiltonish and I HATE PARIS HILTON). I'm just grateful it's not rune and sigil covered and oozing with Doom and shadowy stabbity death.
I do agree on the features too- I hate enchanting eyes, and the blonde hair seems odd on a dark elf. Oh well though. :/
Heh, I generally like Kristen's player, but now she's just not even trying!
some oversized bright pink star-shaped spectacles with dark tinted lenses
Oh, and I think she's put this on to stop the comments about a blonde dark elf:
She has stylishly bobbed, bright pink hair pulled back from her face with a dainty little barrette.

I like Kristin's player as well. Some of her alter ideas are adorable, and some are just downright OOC and OOG.. It's a mixed bag.
I agree about the dark elven skin not exactly looking stellar with the hair.. and the lips strike me as rather bizzare as well. I kinda just humor her, and laugh a little when she shows me the next ridiculous thing that she's managed to get away with. That wrap bodice or whatever in the example is actually altered female-fitting armor... heh. And the puppy tote has a little dog in it. :stare:
I don't like that she creates so many of the Illegal-Sukaraesque-Alters that're around these days, but truely none of them are as bad as they could be. She really -doesn't- care about anything but the 'clothes', and has said as much. Whatever makes the game fun for you, I guess. She isn't standing out in public talking about stats and such, so I can't complain.
-the thorn in some ranger's ass.
Better change that "Kristin" to Kristen! SpunGirl's Kristin around here, heh.

He appears to be advanced in years and tiny. He has clouded over blood-crusted eyes and pox infested skin. He has long, fiery red hair with charcoal lined streaks running through it. He has a green-crusted bronze spike in his lip, and a solid black ruby-tipped pentagram tattoo on his face.

Call me stupid but isn't that Latin?
Bloodthorn tightly flexes his muscles and displays a glorious sunrise tattoo with the words 'corruptio optimi pessima' amongst delicate scrollwork on his arm.
Yes that's latin. It means roughly.. "Corruption of the best is worst.", if I remember correctly.
Edit: And now that I think about it... a long time ago I remember trying to get a shield emblazoned with the words "Memento Mori", Latin for "Remember you are mortal." or "Remember you will die.", GM said Latin was OOG and no go. So I guess things have changed just a bit.

Name: Pixy
Race: Sylvankind Gender: Female
She appears to be extremely young and shorter than average.
She has mischievously twinkling blue eyes and fair skin.
She has knee-length, shimmering blonde hair that falls over her delicate shoulders in a mass of leaf-strewn tangles.
She has an impish face dusted with glitter across her cheeks and glossy pale silver lips that form a delicate heart shape.

Chat rooms don't have alterations? I dunno.. I don't have a problem with it. I'd rather see nicely done OOG items than poorly done technically IG stuff.
Like.. I'd rather see a pink doggy carrier with diamond studs on it than a deadman's death shroud that pulsates with doom and drips the blood of a crone's last period or some sick and stupid thing like that. That's just me though. I ignore the OOG stuff.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, I guess.

She appears to be a Giant.
She appears to be youthful. She has sleepy jade green eyes and lily white skin. She has long, shimmering violet hair piled up on top of the head in a collection of large cylinders and covered with sheer grey netting. She has an oval face, a classical nose and high cheekbones.
She has a tiny bloodjewel stud in her left nostril.
She has some old neck wounds, a mangled right arm, old battle scars on her left arm, old battle scars on her right leg, old battle scars on her left leg, old battle scars on her right hand, old battle scars on her left hand, an old battle scar across her chest, several painful-looking scars across her abdominal area, several painful-looking scars across her back, a black-and-blue right eye, a black-and-blue left eye, developed slurred speech, and a scar across her face.
She is holding a backpack in her right hand.
She is wearing a delicate red crystal rose, a blackened vultite tower shield, a crystal-set white gold collar, a tiny pink crystal-beaded fetish, a sumptuous silver-grey fox fur blanket adorned with a large pentagram cloakpin, a soft blue cashmere blanket, a tiny grape cluster charm, a star-dotted charcoal satin blindfold, a tiny charcoal sleepy-looking lizard, a cloudy glass chain-strung phial, a sturdy canvas herb satchel, a floor-length fuzzy chenille robe, a soft grey flannel nightgown trimmed with a row of small pentagram-shaped buttons, a wrist sheath, a violet crystal-inset ring, a wide fuzzy jade green sash, a bulging soft grey pillowcase trimmed with embroidered jade ribbons, a grey flannel overnight bag, a cricket box, some warm fur-lined house shoes with jade green trim, and a freshly-cut flamestalk tucked behind one ear.

Okay I know I'm going to just get reamed for this one, and trust me *I* wouldn't personally have a character dressed like this for a few reasons (including that she's got WAY too much on). However...
all in all, she's got a theme going on. She's supposed to look like she's in PJ's, sleepy, houseshoes, etc. That being said, the hair and outfit are kind of appropriate for what she's going for. And really..aside from the incredible amount of crap she's got on, it's not that bad IMHO. :duck:
