Actually, up to a 0 gauge is able to close all the way up to a perhaps 14 gauge, which is small. I have friends who had 0's in their ears awhile ago and they're closing on up. But of course its different for every person.

I don't think there's really a hard and fast rule, just more of an "average". Anytime you do a major body mod like piercing or stretching piercings, there's going to be some sort of scar when/if you remove it for it to heal up all the way, they're just not always big and noticeable.

I can't believe they let you wear a t-shirt underneath your gown. At my graduation they had shirts they forced you to buy if you didn't wear the attire they wanted underneath.

It took three hours to get the tattoo that's on my ribs. The black outline wasn't bad, but the coloring started to make me squirm after a while. I should really get it touched up, but, ugh, I don't want to sit through it again. There's some sort of endorphin thing when you're getting tattooed that just runs out after so long.

Yes, I know I've got a skinny arm, but seeing as how I'm under doctor's orders not to lift anything over 30lbs with it, the muscles I once had have atrophied and gone away. (The weird bumps on the left is scar tissue from surgery I had about two years ago.)
