So I've started smoking meats. I've done ribs, chicken, and now pork butt. I'm going to be doing turkeys for Thanksgiving. I've got 4 pre-ordered, plus I'm doing two for myself.

Daaaawwww you guys are killing me with this cuteness. Dex I came so close to adopting a blue nose pit at the humane society a few weeks ago. Pretty much every apartment everywhere in the US is bully-free. When I saved my pit from automatic death in Denver, I was living in an apartment. We just took her out for long walks at night. Fortunately, we lived in a corner apartment on the edge of the complex furthest away from the leasing office. Sure it was against the rules to have her in the apartment and against the law to have her in the city at all, but I couldn't just let that crusty mountain man take her to the shelter where she'd be put down. At seven weeks! But now we have our own house with a yard and insurance and everything like responsible adults. And all the graffiti we can photograph her with.

Yeah it looks like things have gotten worse since I did my research paper on pits a few years ago. They're the disappearing disposable breed and that's really unfortunate. The main point in my paper was that they are the first engineered animal weapon people have selectively evolved (I was wrong at the time, Egyptian Black Jackals were bred to be animal weaponry much earlier and consequently disappeared with the culture of the pharoahs) but that sloppy breeding intent on color viability in recent years has led to unsound animals and thus lethal accidents equitable to giving untrained persons loaded handguns. Boring stuff.

For the record I tried to take a picture of my mutt but she turned into a jumping wiggle machine thinking I was taking her for a late night run. I got a few snaps of blonde blur before I started protecting my phone.

Yes, they are. And my dog is the same unsure difference, with something bringing down his size a bit (<50 lbs). We never got an exact pin on his pedigree as he was a rescue dog that used to live with a group of homeless men before he got attacked by a pack and had to be brought in.

I love black labs. My brother had a black lab/doberman mix named Zeus that was brilliant. Accessories for pets are compensation for cuteness.

She's the second most trainable dog I've ever had and I'm fairly strict with training. She didn't move until she got the "free" command. Sadly, the dogs don't seem to obey anyone else, not even my boyfriend, so I had to be on hand for all the pictures taken off-leash. Still, worth it because it's giving me lots of choices for pictures to put up on our mostly bare walls.

Nah, they're just boxy sort of buildings in a little rundown strip mall in South Austin. They're tearing the whole thing down to put up some condos along with SOME of the old businesses. Including the Highball, where the infamous porn bingo takes place. Dunno how long it'll take but I doubt they'll allow artistic graffiti like that to go on the new buildings which is a shame. Some of it is very clever.

I don't really remember much other than that we were somewhere on the tundra because I remember the shack the old native lady lived in who sold it to me. She and her family had bunches of pelts hanging up outside and she showed me a whole seal skin like the one she'd made the two yo-yo balls out of. She said they kept having to slightly relocate and rebuild their house because the tundra kept trying to swallow it. This confused me as a child because I envisioned the earth abruptly opening its mouth below the house and the inhabitants scrambling around the earth's lips trying not to fall down its throat with their house.
