Clearly its necessary to blank out the faces when posting one's picture on PC. The sordid personalities here are known for tracking and stalking, just from images posted on the internets.

Hah. It's okay I guess. I love the cold. Racism is a problem in the Scandinavian countries though. My traveling companion for the first leg of my trip was a large brown skinned male. Some people were not happy to see us together, I assume they thought us a couple. We had an issue of non-service in a small province outside Oslo. It was unexpected, to say the least.

I can only remember not being served once over seas. I was trying to buy something from a gas station in Greece, and I was using Macedonian money. The man behind the counter said "Shit money!" then waved his hand at the door.

I've cut down quite a bit since I was in the military. Actually, started in the Marines, when I was in Iraq and Afghan I smoked probably 2 packs a day... Not due to stress, but because most of the time was extreme boredom. In Afghan, in between patrols.. The AC for the tent was always out so it was hot as hell in the tents, so I played cards all day.

I'm a former smoker (over a decade ago) and I enjoy the smell of Marlboro Reds, unlit. Just the tobacco. I can often tell when someone has a pack on 'em. But in general, the smell of burning cigarettes is a HUGE turn off. Especially the breath. Ugh. Kissing a smoker would be real hard. I'd have to be super in love or something. Or constantly pumping breath mints into them. Although minty ash really isn't any better, I guess.

While Tisket's response was to be expected (I always expect some stupid negative comment from her - I kind of picture her as an unhappy cat woman who sits on these forums all day talking crap about everything to take her mind off her own crappy life), what I really enjoyed was the positive rep that I would look better without the piercings and shaved. Just makes me chuckle because the reason I stopped playing GS is I feel it's a place for pedophiles (both male and female) to do what they do without repercussions. So I translate that rep to "You'd look real purty if you didn't have no hair on your face and looked like one o' dem little boys or somethin. Make sure you shave e'erywhere. Ooo yeah."

Maybe it was a harmless comment, maybe it was from Jeril. Either way, I found it amusing. :) If I did shave, they'd be like OMG PUT THAT BACK ON FOR THE LOVE OF!

Edit to add: Also, I've realized since I got them how piercings in general bring light to the generational gap. The elderly don't understand it. Their kids don't like it. The kids of those kids have them. The kids of those kids like them. I still think of GS as a playground for people in their 30's and 40's, and for sexually frustrated housewives... so I pretty much expected "lolstupidpiercings" Hah.

Re shaving - that is a must do. Either that or you need to take testosterone supplements. You don't have the ability to grow decent looking facial hair.

The piercings are up to you. I think they look stupid, but I'm a professional and live and work in a professional environment. If your life goal is to manage a GameStop, then by all means you should keep putting permanent holes in your face and shove metal hoops/bars through them.

True.. some workplaces don't really care. Hell, I am sure there are some law firms that don't even care.

That being said... choosing your workplace based on if they accept your facial bling or not is kinda like searching for an apartment that allows cats.. when you are homeless with 3 kids. "only 500 a month, but doesn't allow cats.. sorry kids, another month in the car, we need a place for meow meow."

The point wasn't to pick your career based on facial bling acceptance, but rather that there are a large number of professions that let you express yourself beyond the norm and a large number of corporations that support that. If you want to have a purple mohawk and septum piercing, I saw party on wayne.

This is true. I can have any piercing, tattoo, etc., show at my work (as an accountant). (Edit for clarification: any piercing or tattoo that is not on a body part that would otherwise warrant a firing if I walked around showing it)

Also, for those saying permanent holes and choosing a job based upon acceptance... piercings can be removed. No, the holes don't always close up all the way, but after awhile they will most likely become completely unnoticeable to anyone who didn't know you had a piercing (unless you were into stretching, and then sorry bro). Hell, often if you just take it out for an interview it won't be noticeable depending on where your piercing is. Just don't get any tattoos that can't be covered up by your normal work attire and take out your piercings and you'll be fine.

My bad, I thought you were the one with Linnea's kid sister back in the day. You seem like a nice enough guy, though.

edittoadd: Yes, I completely agree that I needed to/wanted to trim up and did after that picture, but full on shaving is not something anyone with a baby face wants to do, ever. I enjoy people thinking I look closer to my age. My bad on that one. The generation gap statement was because old people look at me like I'm the antichrist (and I live in Mesa, AZ, which is full of retired Canadians/Northerners) while I've had a couple girls my age who have just randomly started talking to me about how much they liked the spider bites, which I just got yesterday. Figured most GSers are closer to one extreme than the other, if you catch my drift.

Pedophile comment was based on the fact that I started this game when I was 13, knew a couple other kids around my age playing, and we all knew one thing. This game was all about the cyborz, and when people found out our ages it seemed to turn them on more than off. Again, Jeril, my bad. I remember hearing that you were going to wait until she was 18 after you found out or something along those lines.

Not so awesome. You should have let me know, I'd have swooped in with my private helicopter* and saved the day. :(

While I was smoking during the intermission, some possibly [probably] completely blitzed chick that looked suspiciously like an ex of mine started talking to me, in a conversation nuanced with that hilarious sort of incoherence that only the wasted-but-still-kind-of-intelligible can manage. You know, like David After Dentist level of goofed. Somehow, Thor Look-a-like/Chad Kroeger [how the fuck do I know who that is?] from Nickleback (but not really) jostled in, and an even more amusing conversation ensued that I can't remember for the life of me because I was too busy enjoying the rest of the show, Chad Kroeger and haunting suspicious on formed liaisons be damned.

My wife and I are having a kid on the 10th! (Maybe sooner, but she's getting induced on the 10th) so I think we are a no-go...I might show up if littleman and I need to get out for a bit, but registering would be a stretch - are you going, DCSL?

Not quite yet, they're only using the dirt as a pillow for now. The rabbits will probably be along shortly to finish the job, though. Dicks.

Didn't see this, sorry. Nope, I didn't get to go. Had to work. But I'm definitely going to be at the Mighty Texas Dog Walk. You'll be able to spot me because I've got blue hair. And I'll be walking with a sparkling unicorn and a rainbow tiger.

So I made pork ramen for Easter dinner to celebrate Jesus saving the gentiles from not being able to dig on swine.

http://i.imgur.com/qpQ9GkN.jpg

Recipe:

Stock

Fill stock pot 3/4 with water. Add 1 cup shaved katsuobushi or bonito flake and about 4 inches of kombu. Bring to a boil. Cut heat and cover once it is at a boil.
Wash 5 lbs of pork neck - remove dried blood. Remove kombu and katsuobushi from water. Add cleaned pork neck. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 12 hours, skimming occasionally.

On the second day add some shitake mushrooms, sliced ginger, crushed garlic, and browned onions to the brother and simmer for 4-5 hours.

Pork

Inject a pork shoulder with 2 parts mango juice to 1 part soy with about 2 inches of finely grated ginger. I used a store bought korean bbq rub mixed half and half with palm sugar. Added salt, black pepper, and a little paprika. Coated with dijon mustard and rub. Smoked at 225 until bone turned in the shoulder. Wrapped in foil, towel, and placed in cooler until dinner.

Eggs

Marinade - 2 parts tsuyu (recipe below), 2 parts cooking sake, 1 part soy sauce, 1 part mirin, grated ginger. Bring to a boil, leave at a simmer for about 60 seconds, cut the heat and cool.

Bring water to boil. Gently place eggs in boiling water for 6 minutes. Remove directly to an ice bath. After minutes very gently remove the shells. Place eggs in cooled marinade and refrigerate for at least 12 hours.

Tsuyu

Bring 1/2 cup cooking sake to a boil. Immediately add 1 cup mirin, 1 cup soy, 2 inches of kombu, and 1 cup of katsuobushi. Cook for 10 minutes. Strain.

Karaage

Marinate uniform, bite size pieces of boneless chicken thigh in 3 parts soy, 1 part cooking sake, grated ginger and grated garlic. I marinated overnight. Heat vegetable oil to 350-360 in frying vessel of your choice, dredge chicken in potato starch (!!!, not flour) and black pepper. Fry for 90 seconds, remove and rest for 2 minutes, and fry another 90 seconds.

Tare

Bring 1 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup cooking sake, 1 tbsp of mirin, grated ginger, grated garlic, diced scallion to a boil and simmer for 90 seconds.

Noodles

Combine 3 cups AP flour, 1.5 tbsp baked baking soda (bake baking soda @ 350 for 10 minutes; I do big batches and keep in a jar for months) bloomed in 1/8 cup water, 3 eggs. Kneed for 15 minutes. Refrigerate for 2-3 hours. I use a kitchen-aid pasta maker attachment to roll it out and cut it. Place cut noodles in boiling water and cook for 4 minutes. Strain.

Plating

Place serving of noodles in a deep bowl. Cover with boiling-hot broth. Add 2 tbsp of tare. Add pulled pork, karaage, 2 halved eggs, and various condiments (I added fresh sweet corn, enoki mushrooms, bean sprouts, and diced scallions.

Sooo cute.

I miss my old corgi, which I actually happened to name her Zoe, and I tear up when I think too much about her. I had to rehome her because having her alone in an apartment for 50 hours a week made me sad. So we rehome her to some lady that had a ranch and a bunch of horses. Hopefully she is happy.

I like it. We keep our garden inside the fenced portion of the back yard for the exact same reason. The wiener dogs keep the rabbits and mice out but the deer don't give a shit about wiener dogs.

Great looking raised bed! It might not be a bad idea to put 2 rosemary bushes on either side of that door in case someone forgets to close it. Deer can't stand the stuff and it is a pretty self sufficient plant.

That is a great call. We'll have rosemary in the beds, so we'll just plant it right next to the door.

Yeah I wouldn't waste any bed space with rosemary. I have two in my front yard that have bushed out to about 6 or 7 feet across. It took time, but once those plants take root they are monsters.

I was an idiot and planted mint in my garden about 5 years ago. Every year I have to spend a few hours cutting it back. My neighbor is an alcoholic and loves mojitos, so she doesn't mind too much when I drop off a contractor sized trash bag filled with mint on her doorstep every year.

Keller
06-02-2014, 05:04 PM
So we were planning on doing flower/dunegrass beds around the exterior. Maybe we do herbs instead? Are there herbs that are less likely to become rabbit food that we can leave outside the fence? Sounds like rosemary - anything else?

Keller
06-02-2014, 05:07 PM
Just for perspective - you're looking west in that picture and there is a ~75 yard field to the east before you get to our house. So there is a no shade at all and anything growing in the front there would get sunlight 8+ hours a day. Water would be a little trickier since we're irrigating the inside but not the outside beds (therefore the dunegrass).

Tips appreciated.

That tiny thyme stuff, can handle light foot traffic and smells nice. Might have to mulch it over the winter, not sure how much effort you want to put in, and no idea if will take over your lawn or if your lawn will crowd it out.

I think herbs outside the perimeter is the way to go. Rosemary, Lavender, Thyme, Oregano and Sage are all pretty drought resistant. You could even plant some flowers (even edible ones i.e. marigolds, or sunflowers(seeds) to help attract some pollinators to your garden.
