Cost of a babysitter per hour: $8.50
#of hours babysitter worked while son was here: 91.65 if they do not work friday
Total cost of babysitter for 4 weeks: $ 779ish
Cost of child support for month: $300 (I asked for it to be reduced... it went from 536 to 300 for the month)
Cost of kids school for month: $273, which I cant pay because I have no money
Total cost of 1 child for 1 month: $1352
Value of having your kid with you for 1 month: Priceless. For everything else...well, I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for it.

No, but it must be a guy thing to ask that.

One of the guys I work with suggested I play on an inflatable alligator raft and call it my moat as it pretty much encompassed two sides of my house.

Wheel bearings ceased up in the work truck today on the way to town to get said bearings fixed. While loading the truck into the flatbed for tow, the 100 lb propane tank got loose and crashed through the back window. Later, fastglass place then broke the only sheet of glass they had that would fix the newly broken window.

I can't even begin to describe the headaches this woman has caused me over the years. Her one saving grace that sadly, is big enough to make the headaches tolerable, is that she is never late, never calls in, and is completely dependable. However, she knows that it gives her an edge because finding a stable employee where I live is next to impossible.

So that then makes her intolerable again. Luckily, she works nights. Unluckily, that is when she calls me.

Stry

I've tried to set the 200 mile rule by moving 2 states away a few times now. Yet she has moved to follow us around twice now, each time mooching off of family members to do it and not paying them back.

I've written her off completely and don't even talk to her if I can help it anymore. The one time I did call her out on her bullshit, she pulled her "I'm so upset I feel like committing suicide" card. Which is the bullshit that has my wife all sorts of emotionally scarred about that kind of stuff from early on in her life when her mom DID attempt suicide. Her whole attitude is 'woe is me' and she uses it to make people feel bad enough to help her. It is manipulation at its finest.

The woman needs to be institutionalized.

I'm fed up, but thanks for reading and offering ideas. I'll try to stop spewing all over this thread for today. ;)

This is how we treat Rex..every single family member is ahead of him in line, including the 10lb dog and he knows it. This has only happend when people just walk in my house, and I'm home alone. He isn't aggressive with any of his "pack", and trust me from day 1 we've taught him he is low man on the rung of the ladder. He does not act aggresive if hubby or kids are here, however if I am home alone..and someone just walks in ( we have a pretty open door policy with the neighbors) and he was asleep when she came in..I don't know. It isn't like Rex is the ALPHA..the only ALPHA thing he does get to do is at night sleep on my bed, which isn't down stairs. I'm frustrated. Katie (the girl) is fine, says she thinks because she acted scared Rex reacted.. bleck I say.

B4Hand
07-13-2010, 11:47 PM
Obviously this is what I'm thinking about. We don't have any one 5years old who lives near or comes by to visit. I will take him out to the K-9 university. What I've read is this is typical territorial behavior. He DID not break skin, HE did not draw blood.

We got Rex so my home would be safe for US. Our house was broken into twice..Not a problem since we've had the dogs. I do realize I might have to put him down, but he is a member of the family and I'll try to take other steps if I can. Locking the front door, posting signs, putting the dog in his kennel if we have company over.

I won't keep a mean dog, plain and simple.

A dog that bites once will bite again, guaran-fuckin-teed. Not breaking the skin is irrelevant... that just means it was a warning. I've had a some experience with overly aggressive dogs... one leaped into the face of my friend, snarling. I kicked it away and its owner told me not to kick their dog... I told them that if that dog ever bites me or so much as nips anyone with me, I will kill it on the spot. I could give a fuck about a dog, as compared to a person. Pets = Less than people.

Delias
07-14-2010, 12:34 PM
That was my point, yes. The best owner in the world can get a troubled dog that cannot become untroubled, no matter how much love and attention the new owner gives it. My cousin once had her lip bit off by a family pet, and once at a poker game a friend was playing with a dog who historically loved playing with him, but he had been drinking and I think the smell set the dog off... case of a previous bad owner who would get drunk and smack the dog around. The smell of beer would set the dog off. He was lucky not to lose an eye. Lots of experience with dogs both good and bad, and once a dog turns and bites once, there is no trusting it ever again. Not to mention, any fear you have after it bites once contributes to it biting again... because they respond to fear and weakness. There are probably exceptions... I always like to leave room for the unknown. I'm just unwilling to take the risk of human lives to figure out if my pet is worth keeping.

I've spoken with the Vet, and with the K-9 university here in Oklahoma, Angel (the head dog trainer, is very highly recommended here in Oklahoma). Both state Rex was simply acting in the way his breed would if his territory was invaded. I need to take precautions so people dont just walk in my front door in the middle of the night, scare me and set off Rex. He has a very large dog kennel he will be housed in as well as not only an electric/chain link fence, but tie down for when he is in the back yard. I have also posted a sign outside my drive way , along the fence, and the door. I installed a chain-latch so that should the door not be locked, people still cannot just walk in.

Yes, Rex nipped the neighbor, however he has been trained to be a guard dog. ..off hours and people just walking in after 10:00pm, knowing I have a guard dog is not wise.

I would like to state again, I am not a BAD dog owner, Rex has never been hit or abused, treated badly. We've gone by the book with him, using formal and informal training. He also has had a blood draw today to see if his thyroid hormone could be off causing this uncharacteristic behavior.

My husband and I will determine over the next few weeks, if we can keep him, If not my husband will have to be the one to put him down, I cannot do it. Rex has been my steady companion and friend for nearly a year, he's ran off would be intruders at least once, and kept a drunken idiot from assaulting my daughter at the park (bark and hold only).

I do value all of your input, thanks.

So you bought an alarm system with built in defenses and decided it might be necessary to uninstall the alarm system because it malfunctioned.

DOGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE COMPANION ANIMALS.

They are not weapons. They are not alarm systems. They are fucking animals at the mercy of whatever our superior primate brains can think up: Trainable animals that do what they are told. It is not the breeds fault. It is YOUR FAULT. If this was 100 years ago America, OK...have a guard dog to guard your chickens and your cows and bark at the redskins but this is the fucking 21st century. The law requires that we disassemble weapons that malfunction and hurt people and YOUR mistake was looking at an animal and seeing a weapon. Now your dog will lose its life because you were too stupid to anticipate what might happen if this animal did what you trained him to do but couldnt tell a good person from a bad person (omfg he doesnt speak English NOBODY TOLD ME?!?)

Okiie.. I did not have REX trained to be a guard dog at all. These are the classes REX has taken and passed with flying colors. I never put him in Personal Protection or Tracking classes, he wasn't even taught to ..guard anything.

He has had the following classes:
Puppy Foundation Class
Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Obedience Class
You and your dog will learn to execute all commands off leash, and will hone-in on hand signals--once complete, your canine friend and you will be able to communicate with no verbal commands, and off leash.

Canine Good Citizen - CGC® TEST
Agility Training Beginning and Intermediate(3rd is for competition)
You and your dog will learn to perform tasks that are typically reserved for elite service dogs. These tasks include obstacles such as general climbing, ladder climbing, jumps, ramps, tunnels, water obstacles, and a host of other surprise obstacles.

We have a small obstical course, we switch around to keep REX stimulated set up outside, we do this at least twice a week, we have to hide the toys because he ALWAYS wants to play on it.

I did a lot of research on not only the breed but on the people we got our puppy from, alot of time, energy and love has been involved with making Rex what he is, part of our family. I DO NOT want to lose him, and so he's also taking some behavior curing classes, he has two scheduled at the center next week, they are private, and three at our house over the course of the next three weeks.

Just a blurp on the Breed;

German Shepherds are fierce but friendly, and have a calm confidence that may seem kind of aloof. When in need, however, a German Shepherd is instantly ready to protect, play a game or perform a task—in some cases as a guard dog, police dog, herder or seeing eye dog. With a strong work ethic and an eager intelligence, they crave challenges.

Not to be left alone in the house too long, German Shepherds crave interaction and involvement. They are fiercely protective of their homes and families—sometimes known to “herd” children—and they get along with other pets. Standoffish and detached with strangers or those outside the family unit, they have been known to “over-guard” or bark protectively.

German Shepherds have great instincts and fertile minds. Lots of activity and exercise will make them happy, but tracking, obedience and agility games—or any task-oriented activity—will make them even happier. A bored or neglected German Shepherd may resort to chewing furniture, digging up flowers and other mischief.

Yes be mad at me, because I failed to lock my front door, because I did not yell loud enough Do NOT come in ..big dog here. I will admit that I shouldn't have been scared with my door opening at 10ish pm. However we've had break ins, as I've said..even with our electrical alarm system, and yes I jumped and was frightend. Be mad at me because my GSD has decided with the primary Male moving out of the house, that he is currently the ALPHA male, and he seems to think I'm his ALPHA female. I do not ask people just to walk into my house, unannounced in the middle of the night. But please don't assume I'm not doing my best to do what is best for not only the dog but the people in my house, and my neighborhood.

erm...?

Meaning..the breed in general is very protective of his territory and home/family. I've discussed this with the neighbors several times. Rex may look like a big puppy, but he's protective. I've told them especially when the hubby is away. That's all I meant by this. He is a guard dog, on his own..without training. It is an upsetting situation, and I babble because it upsets me. Rex did not have any sort of protection training formal or otherwise. The only thing I've taught him on my own is to bring me his food bowl, and to go jump on the foot of my bed when I say "bedtime".

Yeah, because guard dogs that are protective of their family are supposed to just sit there and do nothing when strange people bust up into their master's house and scare the shit out of them in the middle of the night, right?

The dog has had no formal guard dog training, so far as I understand it, which means it has no fucking business being employed as a guard dog. Guard dogs have commands to attack and commands to stay... when you say "oh its a guard dog" but it just fucking "guards" by attacking whenever it feels like, it is about as irresponsible as I can imagine someone being with a dog. I am guessing she doesn't exactly live in the middle of a completely unpopulated area, so yeah, the dog is going to come into contact with strangers. Without proper training it is no more a guard dog than a seeing eye dog, it is just an aggressive prick. Like me. I have no formal training either.

Or maybe people should knock first before entering someone else's house in the middle of the night?

This is pretty much the human equivalent of what happened, from the sound of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hYDYrdiYX8

Should he be put down too?

Some of you are acting like she was walking the dog down the road and it just went ballistic on some random passerby. If that were the case, you might have a point. But it's not, therefore you don't.

Delias

Have you ever owned a dog? Have you ever even seen one in real life? You seem to have a limited understanding of their limited nature. Perhaps she should have locked the fucking door if it was the middle of the night. If the person entering had a key, then that is a problem all its own for the dog to attack someone who apparently is allowed to be there.

Owning a dog is a calculated risk. There is always a chance they will injure someone, and once they do it once to a person who is not actively a threat, the risk increases. Dogs are creatures of instinct and habit, and what a dog perceives as a threat is not the same as what we would perceive as a threat. The dog has become a liability.

I am not a dog- I have the ability to make complex decisions and decide not to be a prick. A dog just follows its nature.

We didn't dress our build-a-bear... The clothes are freaking expensive. Its like 20 dollars for a plain outfit on top of the like 45 bucks you could have spent on their most expensive bear.

I got the 10 dollar chocolate bear and left him naked.

I feel like I would be pissed if I got a manta ray, unless I really liked them or something. If a manta ray to me was like a pony to most little girls, then I'd be excited.

I love build-a-bear. The thing is that I can't justify building a ton of stuffed animals for myself so I am relegated to making them for my baby cousin's birthdays and Christmas for them.

As far as the manta-ray thing goes, I guess that makes sense. I have a giant, pink stuffed octopus that I got for my third birthday. Apparently my dad asked me what I wanted, expecting "a barbie!" or some similar answer and I demanded a pink octopus. He still has it.. some day I will have to take a picture. The thing is that a pink octopus would even be better than a manta ray for build-a-bear. The octopus can wear a hat and eight shoes!

I wouldn't give up hope.

I had chickens growing up, we had nippy forever, she was my mother's cancer bird. When she was having down days, nippy wouldn't move. She had a broken beak which is why my mom liked her so much. Anyways, one night either my brother or I forgot to lock up the coop and a raccoon got in and started chasin the chickens. Most of them got away thanks to Bert (our rooster, originally named bertha but she was a he) who gave up his life fending off the raccoon. No joke, there were feathers and fur all the way from the coop into our woods where we found Bert dead.

We thought that Nippy had been killed by the raccoon before Bert saved the other hens. About a week later my brother found her in a pine tree, really high up. He tried to climb up to get her, spooked her and she fell right down and was promptly caught by my other brother.

So. For all the TL;DR-ers, she survived for a week in a tree and escaped a raccoon attack relatively unscathed.

Fucking hate my sister. Drugged up bitch needs to get hit by a bus.

I have one of these, half-sister technically, who is an emotional and financial drain on my mom and step-dad. She managed to get knocked up and pop out a kid last year. The way they handle the situation, or rather don't handle it at all, drives my wife and I fucking nuts.

If you ever need to vent, shoot me a message. I am positive I can relate.

My mom enables her because it's her first grandchildren, she wants to be so close to them. I blame her but then again I feel like a dick for wanting her grandkids to be out of her house.

Stop. Your mom and step-dead are enabling your whore of a sister and you're not in any way obligated to make yourself miserable to pay for all that fuckery. You have your own family to look out for.

I don't know, I'd feel like a dick if I turned them away.

Tried. My sister threatened to disappear like my younger brother along with the kids. I've even suggested fighting for custody of the kids but fat fucking chance with the judicial system and taking innocent kids with their crack whore mothers.

Well, it isn't that fascinating. I work overnight so when I wake up to get ready for work, a whole day of other people doing things has passed. So today we had someone rip out the basement bathroom to re-do it and I apparently slept right through it. Because I work overnight I also tend to have trouble keeping track of my days, so I forgot this was happening today.

Sometimes it is worth the $200 or so dollars to pack up the boxes yourself and hire someone to load and unload the truck.

In TX I moved into an apartment on the 4th floor and they didn't have an elevator. I hired someone to carry my stuff upstairs and I have been hiring folks ever since.

Plasma donation really isn't that bad, MA doesn't pay for donations but donation centers are usually pretty busy. They hook you up to a machine and an hour later you're on your way- meanwhile you just watch a movie and drink sodas and eat. If you have AB blood type especially you should really consider trying it.

One weekend in Sept.
One weekend in Oct.
One weekend in Nov (If I can get him to skip a monday [Tuesday is off].
Possibly a week in December for holidays.

Of course, these weekends I'll no doubt have to work.

I admire that, even though it's a real financial struggle for you, you never seem to entertain the idea that the struggle isn't worth the reward (being with your kid).
