Just watched RED. Enjoyable if you just want a fun action flick. The plot is way over the top, but it's A Bruce Willis flick, nothing wrong with that.
Would you say that it was mediocre or average?

Bandslam...watched it while I worked out at the cardio cinema. Romantic drama about a nerd or something. Fuck if I know, but I kind of liked it. I added it to my netflix so I can see it from beginning to end. I doubt many of the macho men here would enjoy it, though.

Mary Louise Parker ruined it a bit for me. She started out pretty decently then got very UNfunny toward the middle and end. I blame the writers.
But yeah, other than that...yippee ki yay, motherfucker. Watch it.
I was trawling this thread for something to watch and I don't think I've seen Click, so that's my choice for evening.

Sucker Punch was like a video game. There is a quest in which the characters battle for a few levels, boss fights, a mystery item, etc. Very stylish but not much substance. Think 300 with hot chicks instead of buffed guys and you've got Sucker Punch.
Gsgeek
03-31-2011, 03:58 AM
Yeah Sucker Punch overall was kind of mixed, and I was really looking forward to it. I did like the action, that was great , the soundtrack and music from it was damn good, and the women were hot. But the story/plot was weak with some of it just not making sense and the ending outright sucked. Overall mixed feelings with a wish they had done things differently and the movie would have been awesome. Anyway.

Sucker Punch was only half right: It had the Suck part down pat.
I'm making the early call: it's a raspberry award winner for this year. Stink, stank, stunk.
Sucker Punch has me very worried about the new Superman reboot with Zach Snyder at the helm. The fact that Christopher Nolan is producing it and Snyder isn't writing gives me some hope that it won't be terrible, but who knows.

Hobo with a Shotgun. This is the first deliberately bad movie that is really good in its badness. I DL'd from Zune in HD because I'm lazy.
Couple of Disney flicks.
Tron: Legacy. I liked it. Great art direction. Saw some Matrix influence, some 2001 Space Odyssey, and even a some Blade Runner as well.
Cool Runnings. Great heart warming story. “A gold medal is a wonderful thing. But if you're not enough without one, you'll never be enough *with* one.”

Same here. It got terrible reviews and some of the critiques are deserved but overall it's entertaining and worth the rental when available. Aaron Eckhart is very believable as a Marine Staff Sergeant.
Recently I've seen a very good Korean revenge movie called Bedeviled (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1646959/), I enjoyed Hereafter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1212419/); Clint Eastwood can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned and finally found time to check out Solomon Kane (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0970452/). Solomon Kane wasn't bad. You can hardly tell it's shot on a smaller budget than many action/fantasy flicks.
Saw Limitless too. Was nearly as good as the book. Very awesome.
Watched 127 hours. Nearly collapsed into a pile of wax when he had to do the thing at the end.

I didn't go expecting anything but eye candy and it delivered. If you expecting anything else, you will likely be disappointed. The first "dance" scene was probably best but the trench warfare one was sweet, too. Most of the "dances" were good. As good as those were, the rest was pretty much as bad.
I call it worth getting on Netflix and possibly On Demand. In hindsight, I probably should've gone to see Battle Los Angeles.

Whatever you do AVOID WATCHING TRON. This has to be the dumbest movie I have seen in forever. Proof that Disney has nothing left and has finally caved into pandering to the suburban 13 year olds, Fast and Furious/Tokyo Drift crowd. What a disappointment! With those graphics it could have been so much more than an angsty little boy against the world story.
In other news Fair Game was fucking fantastic. So good in fact it made it to my top ten. I'm not sure about the other forms but if you rent from redbox you get to hear a few words from the actual valerie plame before the movie.

I have no idea, but I really liked that movie. I saw it in the theater when it came out and liked it a lot. I also liked Secret Window, though, so you can take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Chock me up as someone who thinks Johnny Depp is pretty fabulous in everything he does, too, though. I think some people look at all his collaborations with Tim Burton and see 'oh, it's just the same old'... but really, his range just among Tim Burton movies is pretty exceptional.
I won't go as far with Leonardo DiCaprio, but he's turned out some pretty good performances over the years as well. Ranging from Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries, on through the Departed and Shutter Island.

Totally disagree with you.
The 3d was pretty horrid, the story was decent, but they started plot arcs, then dropped them with no warning, and the movie used duex ex machina at the end, and then just ended with no wrap up.
The battle scenes were awesome, but half the time, I couldn't tell if it was an autobot or a decepticon.

I thoroughly enjoyed Pandorum. I'd have liked seeing both the originally planned movies, as well.
Sucker Punch was exactly what I went to see it for, eye candy. I thought the first combat scene was exceptional with the rest trickling off to just very good toward the end. The problem with the movie was the scenes when she wasn't fighting. I give it a C+ but thought the "dancing scenes" were a B+.
Saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, yesterday. I've been truly impressed by the quality of the entire series. This movie was no exception. I think you could feel like something was going to happen to Dumbledore by the time you were halfway into the movie. He seemed distant. I've been trying to catch up to the current releases from Prisoner of Azkaban, where I had stopped watching years ago.
Battle: Los Angeles has been hashed already and while not a truly impressive movie, I really, really enjoyed it.

The Eagle...no.

I loved Taken so much, but I've been waffling on seeing Unknown just because we've had a lot of Liam-Neeson-kicking-ass lately. Granted, that's something I'll always be willing to see, but still... (that said, I have rewatched Taken so many times. I don't even know why I liked that movie so much, but I did.)
On Nikki's recommendation, I *coughdownloadedcough* saw Centurion. It was good, solid entertainment with some basis in history. I liked it more than, say, Clash of the Titans.
Also, I can't remember if I already posted it here or not... but 13 Assassins (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1436045/) was fantastic. A modern day revival of older-style Samurai movies. I enjoyed it thoroughly. As with pretty much any foreign film, do NOT get a dubbed version.

Equilibrium didn't get the attention it deserved (I feel) because it came out so close to the Matrix and the visual styles were 'vaguely' similar. It's such an awesome movie, though, and more proof of Christian Bale's overall amazingness.
Scott Pilgrim was great. Some of my uber-nerd friends didn't like it because it was too littered with pop culture references and memes. Fuck you.
Also, Kill Bill has been on some channel the last few nights. Even censored for TV, it's a pretty good film (both). Part of me wants to dislike Tarantino for some reason, but the rest of me just enjoys the hell out of his movies.

It seems the consensus is: If you like anime, strippers, giant demon ninjas, steam punk nazis, red dragons, orc infested castles, explosions, firearms, kick ass action scenes pumped up with a rocked out soundtrack, without needing a cohesive story line or in-depth characters... then this movie is for you.

Sucker Punch was like a video game. There is a quest in which the characters battle for a few levels, boss fights, a mystery item, etc. Very stylish but not much substance. Think 300 with hot chicks instead of buffed guys and you've got Sucker Punch.

Democrat or Republican, Man or Woman – Everyone’s behind Paylin!
See the movie everyone’s talking about for yourself!
Backdoor dealings, scandalous foreign affairs and cross-party threesomes – politics doesn’t come any dirtier than this! In this 2010 AVN Award Winner for Clever Title of the Year, MILF star Lisa Ann plays Alaska Gov. Serra Paylin in her bid for the Oral Office. It's a sex-packed parody that will leave you laughing… when you’re not getting down and dirty, you betcha! 5 scenes. 104 minutes, plus 48 bonus minutes.
Scene 1: Gov. Paylin works on her foreign relations with two Russian soldiers – bending over backward to suck Sascha’s hard cock while Mick Blue pumps her curvy rear until they pop all over her smiling face and glasses!
Scene 2: While Paylin gets grilled by the press, her hubby Alec is busy breaking in their newest intern! After some tongue magic, Holly West hops on his lap and drops down on his cock ass first for anal cowgirl!
Scene 3: Decked out in her Miss Alaska sash and tiara, Paylin’s ready to get drilled! She treats her husband’s friend Lee Stone to a gubernatorial cock gobbling before jumping in his lap for a cowgirl ride while her bra-busting melons bounce more than her poll numbers!
Scene 4: Daydreaming about simpler times, Paylin remembers an afternoon study session with her old political professor Evan Stone. SinDee Jennings (playing a young (18+) Paylin) bares her bald box for a tongue-wagging lecture before he bends her over the desk and taps her tight behind to show her how the system works!
Scene 5: Paylin and Hillary (Nina Hartley) get together for some bipartisan caucusing… only to get busted by an angry Condi (Jada Fire) for starting without her! Joining in the fun, Condi feeds Hillary a vibrator while the senator stuffs Paylin’s ballot box with her fingers before both babes tag-team Condi with her own toy!

Just finished watching Kevin Smith's "Red State". Smith has been churning out some questionable stuff (which I still consume and generally like, even Cop Out)... but this was fantastic. Gritty, brutal, creepy and disturbing on a very low-budget. John Goodman and Michael Parks steal the movie, but all the actors give good, convincing performances.
If you hate WBC, give it a watch. Smith also includes some digs at post-9/11 (and post-Waco, for that matter) government power, so if you're a Patriot-Act supporting fella, you may want to just ignore that.

It's a new series on CBS with Jim Caviezel (squee!) beating people up and Ben from Lost being clever and grandiose. Watched this last night. I think your assessment is pretty spot on. The one thing that would have been good is if they'd have ended it with a Bollywood style dance number, with robots. The kid and the robot danced earlier... should have finished with a dance. Would have been worth a laugh in any case. Good entertainment all the same.

I debated making a thread about American Horror Story. I'm definitely intrigued and will keep watching. It seems like a pretty common horror trope that's being stretched over a TV show length... that may be a good thing. Seeing Ruth from Six Feet Under made me happy. The editing/camerawork bugs me a bit (the flashes, jitter-cam, quick-zooms, etc... they just don't work in a TV show like this), but I love horror movies enough that I'll stick with it.

I think there were three sequels to Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?(original name of the story), but they were written by a different author. Never read them, but I think those ones, We Can Remember it for You Wholesale (Total Recall,) and Minority Report all took place in the same universe in the books, so using the books as source material for a sequel might be dicey.
But yeah, I heard they were going to do a sequel too. Basically was a case of Scott saying there wasn't a need for a remake (which was the idea some were wanting to go with) since so many versions and cuts exist already, but he managed to get the go-ahead to do a sequel instead, with the people who wanted to do the remake chipping in or something.

Just got back from seeing Hugo, and it was very, very good. So much detail, including a lot that actually happened in real life. Extremely well done.
I also saw the Muppets Saturday. A funny movie and tons of great cameos.
Maniacal laugh!

It was okay. I dunno if I'd call it amazing, but definitely okay.

I liked it better than District 9. It is nice to see a movie that doesn't paint humanity like total scumbags.
Columbiana. If you like Sucker Punch, The Professional, and La Fem Nakita, you’ll like this one. I am not into super skinny chicks but Zoe is superhot.
Hall Pass. Hilarious, wrong on so many levels... boy vs. girl middle aged angst. Laughed all the way through.

This is old news, but 13 Assassins is one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Also, I loved Old Boy, so I watched the other 2 films in the "Vengeance trilogy." Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance wasn't very good. However, Lady Vengeance was enjoyable, but not as good as Old Boy.

Watched I Am Number Four, Captain America, and Green Lantern in one day. Captain America yay for acting, Green Lantern yay for special effects, and really surprised that I Am Number Four actually surprised me. I went in with low expectations and, for what it was, it was not bad.
Netflix should be delivering Colombiana, Moneyball, Ides of March, and Horrible Bosses in a couple of days. Heard Colombiana was pretty kick-ass.

The Hurt Locker, unsurprisingly. Liked Jarhead better, though.
Yeah two outstanding movies.
I really enjoyed Mr Nobody this evening.

Saw Horrible Bosses, which was better than I thought it was going to be.
Also finally got around to watching Walking Dead season 1. It was pretty damn good. Now I need to get caught up on season 2.

I really enjoyed S2 even though a lot of people found it frustrating and lacking in action.

The first half of S2 was indeed dull and seriously lacking. Glenn getting laid was the highlight.

Moneyball was very well done. Started to love the camera angles and dialogue for Super 8, then I fell asleep sometime after the first diner scene and woke up at the very end. Anyone know if the middle sucked or not?

What is this I'm hearing about it being a chick flick? Something about romance?

I wouldn't say there's a whole lot of romance in it.

If you call kids fighting to the death in an arena with just a tiny bit of romance sprinkled on top a chick flick, then sure, it's totally a chick flick.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed 21 jump street (the movie). It was really funny, if very much "guy" humor.

There's no thread for movies you can't wait to see when they come out is there?
The Raid: Redemption. Terrible name, probably awesome movie. Think Crouching Tiger meets Kung Fu Hustle, as a cop flick.

It was very good, I would suggest you go back and watch the whole part.
Also cracked up a lot at the very end, "You're such a loser dad, you're such a loser dad!"
Saw The Raid: Redemption and it was excellent. Makes me wonder if kali silat will be the next martial arts craze. Harder to find teachers.

John Carter was pretty good, with the warrior princess, Dejah Thoris, kicking some butt. Hard to believe that Willem Dafoe was under all that makeup playing the green man, Tars Tharkas.
Saw Dylan Dog on DVD and it was very funny, especially the interplay between Dylan and his newly-zombified sidekick/partner.

Cabin in the Woods was fucking fantastic. Joss Whedon does his thang on horror. I won't say anything else, definitely the most fun I've had for awhile at the movies.

Yesterday I heard about a movie called "The Baytown Disco" that is being shopped for distribution. It has Billy Bob Thornton in it, so I figured it was worth a look. After watching the trailer I swear it's like the Boondock Saints meet Deliverance. Looks rather cheap and yet stylish. I dig it.
Here's the trailer.

It has Clutch and Zombie in the soundtrack, so it's gotta be awesome right? Right.

I did a movie hat trick today.
Lockout: Okay. One-liner tough guy with sense of humor bit overdone.
The Raid: Good. Amazing fight scenes, very well done.
The Cabin in the Woods: Fucking awesome. Hilarious horror movie with nice new spins on old stories. Nothing really made me jump, but it was very entertaining.
