I know they aren't new, but some people might have not seen them. I just went to Best Buy the other day and bought a few movies I haven't seen in a while. All pretty good, add them to your Netflix list:
-Brazil
-Pi
-Dark City
-Boiler Room (I cant believe I like a Vin Diesel move, he's actually good in it)
-The Jerk ( Already had it, but watched the damn thing so many times it stopped working. In my opinion, the best comedy EVAR.)
Bourne Identity and Supremacy on the train this morning
Haven't read any of the books by the new author, but the Bourne series ranks right up there with Die Hard when it comes to action movies. Let's hope they make the next four and they turn out as good as the last three.
1. The Bourne Legacy - (2004)
2. The Bourne Betrayal - (2007)
3. The Bourne Sanction - (2008)
4. The Bourne Deception - (2009)
*my opinion.

True. Could (probably would) pull a Star Wars. I would still like to see them made just for the chance they might be good.
And I am complete fail for using Die Hard as an example. The last one sucked hard.

Yeah, I have Requiem. The mother ( can't remember her name ) should have won an Oscar for the refrigerator scene. Movie seems to be trying to be too hardcore at times though. The last five minutes are nuts. Not in my list of favorites, but i've watched it a lot, so I must like it.

21 grams was such a let down for me. the first thirty seconds or so when they are talking about how people loose 21 grams when they die totally got me hyped up for some crazy movie involving people dieing, then the movie had nothing to do with that shit.

Yeah, I can see how that would be a let down lol. I love the way it can take various plotlines and such and bring them together. An interesting movie I saw not that long ago was Vantage Point. It's really more of a rollercoater ride than a movie hehe. It rewinds over and over and plays the same scenes from different vantage points before bringing everything together. 21 Grams appealed to me because of the "style" of the film.

i read the summary of the fountain (after watching it) which made the movie make sense to me.
basically, its about three different dudes at three different points in time. the back and forth motion and crossing over of the story line is what makes it confusing. but if you seperate the three of them it kinda makes sense.
one dude is looking for the grail.
one dude is trying to save his wife.
and the third dude is traveling through space in a bubble trying to save a fucking tree. yup. a tree. in space. in a bubble.

Gretchen, I have House repeats on perpetual record in my TiVo. I just saw that episode in your sig and laughed my ass off.
I remember when House first came out, it was mostly brilliant doctor stuff. Now all the episodes are emotional and him having overdose meltdowns. Some are cool, like when he hallucinates Amber. But some of them freak me out and arent even medically interesting. I'm not sure what season they are, my TiVo doesnt tell me that. :-/

He’s not that into you. Pretty cast, pretty funny.
The Other Boyclyn Girl or whatever. I like these period pieces. Maybe a past life thing...
The Spirit. Not bad considering the cast.
Are you shitting me? The Spirit didn't have a single likable or at least sympathetic character in the entire thing. Also, for all that I love him, I don't think Frank Miller should direct alone without a little more guidance. He just doesn't know when to stop, always has to go at least a little over the top. I barely made it through the whole movie.
Oh yeah, and Up! That thing was the cutest little film. My boyfriend cried even while we were on the way home. XD And he doesn't cry easily. I mean, more easily than I do at movies, but he's got a weak spot for um.. the sad part in there. Don't want to give too much away.
Also, I never wanted a Golden Retriever before that movie, but if I could find one like Doug, I'd take it home. "But it's a TALKING DOG!"

PCU - College Funny
I love PCU, but at the same time, the movie is so glaringly inaccurate because its major plotline is based on the CT blue law about selling alcohol after 8 pm. 1. Port Chester is NOT in Connecticut, it's the first town in New York over the border. 2. We go to Port Chester to get booze after 8 pm.
I know, it's just a movie, but that part gets to me more than Home Alone 2's NYC geography where Kevin runs uptown, downtown and crosstown in two minutes, in the winter, without getting tired.

Gawd. And that was one of my beefs with Salvation. There were something like three or four terminator-crawls-and-grabs-human-foot scenes, a bunch of stolen lines from the first two movies, factory fights, mimicked camera angles, et cetera. There's homage and then there's the point where it becomes a mishmash of the previous movies bringing very little of value of its own.
Among my friends, though, I was the only one who seemed to think it was over the top.

The story was alright, but I particularly liked the way it looked.
I also liked that Paris Hilton played a future Paris Hilton.
Watched Righteous Kill. Gimmicky. Obvious twist. I did watch it all the way through though just to justify my suspicion.
Also, There Will Be Blood. Well acted, great cinematography and score but somewhat unsurprising. Then again I didn’t fall asleep.

Yeah it's pretty awesome. Just be aware that they LOVE to let you stream season 1, maybe season 2 of something. And then not the next season or two. It's a pain in the ass. But they change around what you can stream every so often, so you can wait some stuff out (maybe).
And as for the docs, you mean Blue Planet right? I think he narrates them. Even if that's not what you mean, you need, NEED to stream The Blue Planet's volume with "The Deep" on it. The icon is an angler fish, so kinda hard to miss. Anyway, it's fucking awesome.

Coraline is directed by the director of both James and The Giant Peach and Nightmare Before Christmas, so yes, it has a Tim Burton connection.

That movie was utter crap, ignoring any similarities or deviations. I never read the original poem, but I've been very fond of Seamus Heaney's translation and have reread it a few times and prefer it over earlier translations. (It also introduced me to Seamus Heaney, whose own poetry is well worth reading.)
A more entertaining re-imagining of the story is '13th Warrior', based on Michael Crichton's book 'Eaters of the Dead'. I enjoyed the changes in that instance.
I'd really like to see a movie version of John Gardner's Grendel. That was such a fantastic story, and I could actually see that translating to a movie well.

Agreed on all points. When I said having read the original poem, I meant reading the translation, since I can only pick out words and phrases here and there in the Anglo-Saxon. I also prefer Seamus Heaney's translation, and I highly recommend picking up a copy of him reading excerpts from it. Beowulf was meant to be read aloud, and it takes on a whole new dimension when you hear it.
I think you might be the first person I know of who's also read Grendel. I loved that book. Definitely would be interesting to see a movie made from it.

Saw Princess and the Frog today and Avatar in 3D a couple days ago. Both fun and very entertaining. Hoping to go see Avatar in IMAX sometime this week.

Sherlock Holmes
If you like the Illusionist or Prestige I think you'll like this movie.
Agreed. Sherlock Holmes was excellent. I prefered it over Avatar, actually. I doubt many will share that opinion, though.
The Royal Tenenbaums
This is my favorite film.

Watched Southland Tales the other day, some movie I've never heard of with the Rock and Buffy and some other people. Figured it'd be entertaining since the Donnie Darko people made it.
Instead it was one of the most pointless boring stupidest movies I've seen, and the Rock kicked 0 asses and cut 0 Rock style promos, making the movie even worse.

So then it's not a good movie, as the thread asks?!

Correct. I am guilty of being off topic.

The Road :(
Battle Royale, one of my favorites. Especially the book. Loved that.

Didn't they just make an American movie completely ripping off this story?

Saw Book of Eli yesterday. It was decent, though it could have been better.

The Lovely Bones was just okay, I thought it could have been better tho. A lot of the scenes in the after life were pretty weird.

Saw The Book of Eli on Friday night and Daybreakers on Saturday night. I enjoyed them both, I think Daybreakers was my favorite of the two however.

I am looking forward to seeing Book of Eli shortly and somehow I missed when The Road came out, but I'd like to see that too.
But...seriously...Avatar wins best drama at the Golden Globes? DRAMA?!?! Best director I could understand...but come on, enough circle jerking on it already. Amazing special effects, yes...but the movie is not that good!

I enjoyed The Road more than The Book of Eli, thought it did a much better job of portraying a post apocalyptic world.
I saw Legion. Critically panned but I laughed my ass off. There was a lot that was wrong with it. Tons. But hey, how many laughs do we get allotted in life? Too few, I say, so whatever makes it happen is great. Even unintentionally. I really appreciated the R rating.

I read the book and enjoyed it, but I heard the movie was horrid.
