Oh and he's sitting here chatting with Xixtrataa which makes it even worse. Now he's RPing with himself on another character. Notice the lack of capitalized i.

Tecs says, "Oh dear god you are all in trouble now."
s>
Tecs says, "He is here."
s>
You feel less drained.
s>
Tecs says, "And marching this way."
s>
Acrew just arrived.
s>
Tecs says, "Told ya."
s>
Acrew gives Tecs a friendly slap on the back.
s>
Acrew says, "Shut up fool."
s>
Acrew appears to be trying hard not to grin.
s>
Acrew sits down next to Xixtrataa.
s>
Acrew gives Xixtrataa a lingering kiss.
s>
You feel less drained.
s>
Xixtrataa snuggles Acrew, who responds by cradling an arm around her.
s>
Acrew says, "Oh sure i am here and she is out of her mind."
s>
Acrew says, "Oh wait."
s>
Acrew flashes a wide grin.
s>
Acrew leans softly against Xixtrataa.
s>
Xixtrataa rolls her eyes.

The general perception of good or even acceptable RP in GS these days is fucking frightening.

Acrew says, "Oh who is this someone new to my part of the well."
s>
Xixtrataa giggles.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Madmountan ..this be my hubby ...Acrew."
s>
Xixtrataa snuggles Acrew, who responds by cradling an arm around her.
s>
Acrew says, "I am acrew."
s>greet acr
You nod curtly to Acrew.
s>exa acr
You see Acrew Fargarthen the Battle Mage.
He appears to be a Human.
He is tall and appears to be of full age. He has watery crystal green eyes and golden brown skin. He has waist length, tied back black hair with a white streak running through it. He has a sloping nose and a long beard.
He has a gold-banded black glaes pipe clenched between his teeth.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a deep red rowan runestaff topped with a golden orb in his right hand.
He is wearing a sturdy dark leather gem pouch, an ink black spidersilk bag, a rune-etched leather scroll case slung over his shoulder, a spun spidersilk wand harness, a regal dragonfire opal ring, a wide silver wrist cuff, a crystal amulet, a dark blue spidersilk harness slung over his other shoulder, a hemp-strung blue slate chalkboard, a coarse wooden mask incised with deep whorls on each cheek, an emerald-inlaid coiled dragon earcuff, a dragon capped silver torc, a delicate mithril alloy medallion, a smoky topaz inset silver torc, a crude roa'ter-toothed necklace, a matte black leather eyepatch, a pair of wire-framed spectacles, a silver and gold wand pin, a skull-shaped bone pin with tiny heliodor eyes, an opal studded pewter brooch, a lead-bound maoral Adventurer's Guild badge, some crimson fitted casting leathers, a polished silver wristlet, a delicate silver charm bracelet, a gold-inlaid dark green jade bracelet, a silver-swirled pale blue imflass wedding band adorned with sapphire chips, a carved ruby pentagram ring, a sparkling dragonfire opal ring, a silver-edged leather wand belt, a misty grey sack, some loose spidersilk pants dyed a rich midnight black, a black leather thigh sheath bound in silver, a gold-inlaid dark green anklet, a pair of snakeskin boots trimmed with bleached fangs, and a cobweb-covered dark blue spidersilk cloak edged with silver velvet trim.
s>
You do not feel drained anymore.
s>
Acrew says, "Her better half even if she is much older them me."
s>
Acrew grins.
s>chu
You chuckle.
s>
Xixtrataa sticks her tongue out at Acrew, and lets out with a loud, "Thbtbtbtbt" from her lips!
s>
* Novur just bit the dust!
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "You just like older women."
s>
Xixtrataa nods.
s>
Xixtrataa snuggles Acrew, who responds by cradling an arm around her.
s>
Acrew says, "I am the nice one."
s>
Acrew says, "True."
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "And i am the ebil one."
s>
Acrew grins at Xixtrataa.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "All the rogues think i am."
s>
Xixtrataa nods.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "I pick fer free."
s>
Xixtrataa giggles.
s>
Xixtrataa rubs her rose gold anklet.
s>
Xixtrataa rubs her rainbow glaes anklet, causing a golden incandescence to dance around its edges briefly.
Xixtrataa gets an odd look on her face.
s>
Xixtrataa grumbles.
s>
Acrew says, "I still dont understand how i lost a pack full of weapons."
s>
Xixtrataa removes a crystal amulet from in her spidersilk pack.
s>
Xixtrataa slides her amulet into a small compartment underneath her rainbow glaes anklet, and it affixes itself with a soft *CLICK!*
s>
Xixtrataa rolls her eyes.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Droped em maybe."
s>
You say, "By the way....just for clarification's sake, this has been my part of the well going on 12 years now. I've had a four month absence and two crews seem to have moved in while I'm gone. There's you folks and the Gardeth/Steia crew, both of whom now lay claim to this place. It doesn't bother me in the slightest, I was just making a clarification."
s>
Acrew says, "You understand all my hair is going to fall out because of this right."
s>
Xixtrataa giggles at you.
s>
Xixtrataa snickers.
s>
Acrew glances at you.
s>
Xixtrataa blows expertly across her flute, drawing forth a merry, joyful trill.
s>
Acrew says, "Has not."
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Are yas gonna arm wrestle now."
s>
Xixtrataa rolls her eyes.
s>
You say, "Indeed it has. When the well had the additional areas built on, I've sat here ever since."
s>grin
You grin.
s>
Xixtrataa giggles at you.
s>
Xixtrataa's fingers skip lightly along the length of her flute, conveying a cheery melody.
s>
Acrew says, "The great lord pagg has owned this peace for a long time about 13 or 14 years."
s>
Acrew flashes a wide grin.
s>
Acrew nods.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "I bet ya steia/gardeth crowed be a part o us."
s>
Xixtrataa nods.
s>
Xixtrataa points at Acrew.
s>'
You say, "The additions haven't even been here that long."
s>grin
You grin.
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Their son."
s>
Xixtrataa's fingers skip lightly along the length of her flute, conveying a cheery melody.
s>
Acrew says, "Have to."
s>
Acrew flashes a wide grin.
s>
Acrew winks at you.
s>
Xixtrataa giggles at you.
s>
Xixtrataa blows expertly across her flute, drawing forth a merry, joyful trill.
s>time
Today is Tilamaires, day 13 of the month Lormesta in the year 5109. It is 15:13 by the elven time standard. It is currently late afternoon.
s>
Acrew asks, "So what we doing today?"
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Pagg is a sweety."
s>
Acrew says, "Is not."
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Is too."
s>
Xixtrataa nods.
s>
Xixtrataa's fingers skip lightly along the length of her flute, conveying a cheery melody.

Acrew says, "He beat me when i was young."
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "Remember love...everyone likes xixie."
s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "So you likely deserved it."
s>
Acrew says, "What am i saying he still beats me."

s>
Xixtrataa huskily says, "You likely liked it too."
s>
Xixtrataa giggles.
s>
Acrew says, "That hurt me deep."

At this point I just stopped interacting with them, because I was about to enter the bad roleplaying area myself by escalating to violence, and it just wasn't worth it. I've sat at whatever version of the "Town Well" existed since 1995. I've never heard of any of these fools, including Pagg.

At least when Cronuss was making his claims, I actully remember him from back then. I can list almost every single person who has ever been a regular at the well from that point forward, and this douchbag wasn't one of them.

Did anyone actually go to her little cobbling discussion? And if so, did anyone log it? I can only imagine what a delight it must've been to sit through, on top of the fact that she announced it hours after I had mine put on the calendar.

I'm willing to guess that character was sold at some point or another. The person who played that character (I think originally) also played one of those thieves that everyone loved to hate (based out of Icemule probably 3 years ago, pretty sure Dragontat was the name; something dumb like that). Maybe he wasn't sold though. At the time, I seem to remember he was pretty dumb and had a hard time understanding that PvP and CvC are different things.

"Skydzia skips over to Kutta merrily."

Since when did skipping become OOC?

Maybe Obama's being OOC? I mean, shouldn't he be robbing banks and rapping about drugs? (Understand what i'm saying?)

Not every character must fit into a mold. I assume that people who sit around complaining about everyone elses RP, would be able to figure that out.

"I'm willing to guess that character was sold at some point or another. The person who played that character (I think originally) also played one of those thieves that everyone loved to hate (based out of Icemule probably 3 years ago, pretty sure Dragontat was the name; something dumb like that). Maybe he wasn't sold though. At the time, I seem to remember he was pretty dumb and had a hard time understanding that PvP and CvC are different things."

Yes, same owner.

A lot has changed in a few years, and I look forward to creating a wonderfully RP'd character.

Skydzia has been gone a long time, and i've only seen a few characters around that used to be around when he was. I'm hoping that these changes in his character are well met, and accepted positively, because they are well meant.

I put a lot of time and effort into training Skydzia those years ago, and I really don't want to just toss him.

And you're correct. Those year's ago I really didn't seperate PvP and CvC at all. I hope to change that.

How satisfying is it to speak so evilly behind so many people's back?

I stumbled upon this while idly searching through these forums, and was honestly hurt to see Skydzia mentioned at all, Since his return he has rarely failed to uphold his character. His character may not be stereotypical, but I assume that's what makes it seem so OOC.

I hope that I addressed this subject with respect, in a topic that doesn't offer much of it. I also hope that I expressed my opinion and that my position is understood. This is not what I had intended upon posting after reading the comments about me and Skydzia, but i feel this is the most appropriate.

Until Simu went ahead and made it a culture option, no one was "born" Dhe'nar. IIRC, it was a fairly elitest organization that required you to roleplay a certain way in order to get in. Not skipping around like a pansy was something you'd do to get in, I believe. I guess most people still think of Dhe'nar to be that type of roleplay since that's why it was created. Just because Simu made it a culture option isn't going to change anyone's opinion of the organization.

A Dhe'nar skipping is not in and of itself bad roleplay. That is as so long as Skywhatever is familiar with the culture, and has a valid reason for being a member of a normally stoic race, yet still chooses to carry himself like that. As DieThx mentioned, being Dhe'nar isn't something you're born into, even by Simutronics standards. It comes with a set of values, philosophies, and an overall belief system. ANYWHO, you can still account for that and STILL choose to skip everywhere, but you better have a damn good reason for doing so ... or end up in a thread devoted to bad roleplay.

Does said person have a decent backstory? If so I imagine it is interesting.

Pondering this issue further, does anyone think it worthwhile to select ANY cultural flag if you don't abide by the normal tenets of said group? Race makes sense. No matter how contrary you act, you are still born of that race. Culture? Hell, if anything it makes the MOST sense to select the Dhe'nar culture flag, even if you don't roleplay it. They are, for lack of a better word, inbred. Almost a race apart due to their breeding program. I would view the differences between Faendryl and Dhe'nar as significant as our earthly concepts of race.

To me, though, I believe if you're not going to bother roleplaying your culture, ANY culture, don't select it. It is meaningless. To clarify, it isn't BAD roleplay to differ from the cultural standard, it IS bad roleplay to differ with said culture, yet still insist on wearing an inaccurate cultural flag.

Technically, you are born a Dark Elf. Cultural identity comes with growing up and being accepted into said culture. It USED to be that the Tower was the only group which could grant you any amount of validity to your Dhe'nar roleplay. That changed, as you noted, when the society became official. It no longer is a set of values that Starsnuffer and Co. taught you, but now it is something your character would learn in their backstory while in Sharath. It is the same thing with Ta'Faendryl. The Dhe'nar are just far, far more strict with who they allow to live within their society.

But really, the issue is silly. Are you born Muslim? If you were born into an arabic family, raised with Muslim teachings and values, yet later come to renounce all of it, are you still a Muslim? No. Nor would you choose to identify yourself as one.

Gnomes get different languages based on their bloodline, so it'd make sense for a Winedotter elf who grew up in the EN to take it to be able to speak elven, even if they don't act like one. But nobody cares about gnomes.

Mechanically, yes, but weren't the Dhe'nar "darkified" like 40,000 years before the Faendryl? The both come from the same source but I think there's a pretty good argument that Dhe'nar and Faendryl are both Dark Elves the way Greeks and Brits are both Caucasian. There will be some physical characteristics that point to a specific culture.

Aha I see. I guess I was just going off the idea that you could be born into Faendryl culture because it wasn't elitest like the Dhe'nar, which I suppose shouldn't really hold water since it's official now. Still though, I totally agree with you. While you couldn't really renounce or disassociate from your race, you can totally do it for a culture/religion you despise (and I think you would, in fact).

He does not use the full name like the Faendryl do but I do have his culture showing. The culture tag is mostly OOC though imo.

I just assume that he lived there long enough that much of what would identify someone as a Faendryl (at a glance) rubbed off on him and now is just second nature. Kinda like the old saying, you can take the boy out of the country but you can't take the country out of the boy.

There still exists within the game a way to more strictly adhere to the RP established by Starsnuffer et al, via the Obsidian Tower. Anyone can roll up a Dhe'nar; not everyone can, will or will want to become a member. Not that it's elitist - it's not, anyone that plays a Dhe'nar is potentially eligible. And skipping will not disqualify you.

Look at Eoghain. He skips with much glee and abandon.

So, anyhow, now there's Dhe'nar that are Dhe'nar via the mangler and they can do whatever they want. And with a reason for it, that can include skipping. However, I agree with Fallen (not surprisingly) that if you chose the race with no intention to play to it - why bother.

The assumption when someone sees a Dhe'nar is that they won't be skipping. Or bouncing, or giggling. Except Eoghain.

But I can also agree that calling a Dhe'nar out for bad RP simply for skipping, with no other interaction to give context to the skipping, is probably a little harsh.

I think that's hilarious. And probably true - you'd think after what, at least 6 years of feature alters? People would get a fucking clue and not have to take 20 minutes of a merchant's time with crap ideas, or no ideas at all.

Nah, my point was what she was thinking was in character. Ya, know? If they'd reacted back I'd have thought nothing of it. Now if I was whispering to so and so bitching about how slow they were being that's an entirely different matter.

You'll have to be more elaborate.

The MYCHAR verb will allow you to express to GameMasters details about your character. This information will be seen by GMs only.
It works just like the ACTION verb. Some examples are:

You wanted to share your thoughts with a GM. The GM shared back. Had you not wanted the GM to see it, there would have been no reason to use the verb. Instead.. you could have.. thought it to yourself without typing in MCHAR.

I do disagree that the GM telling them to STFU etc. I saw it as more a apology/backhanded-insult to the time wasters.

I agree actually. I meant "STFU" in a playful way. Like "come on man, give me a break, I can't help it these people are idiots".

Honestly, if I were the GM, I probably wouldn't have even thought about responding OOC to an IC though. This is monday morning quarterbacking. And if I was on the receiving end, I'd just be happy I was getting some humourous attention from the GM.

I'm just saying, I see that from his perspective, why he has a point.

The thing is how is the merchant supposed to respond IC'ly to a comment that is meant for GMs only?

I know that merchants ARE GMs but they're not working in that capacity at the time. So really if he was going to be frustrated as a player with that thought, OOC is really the best way to go.

He's speaking as the GM/player, not the merchant.

That makes sense. Often times during roleplay, someone's actions or reactions trigger the need for an OOC comment explaining/clarifying the situation. The "thx" at the end was a bit catty, but so was the initial Mychar thought, expressing boredom at an event aimed towards the GM's characters.

Just a sort of ugh moment all around.

Nah, he really didn't need to say anything at all. The guy was frustrated, and I don't blame him, which is why if I'm going to go to a merchant, I like to be prepared. I'd hate to be the guy who says "no idea what to get". I'd kick someone else for that. So he vented.

It's a little weird on all sides. Although I guess we should be thankful it was done quietly and not outloud. That would have been worse.

Yes, all those who are not creative in designs and slow, should not bother to get into line of a merchant and slow the muck down for the merchant whores.

Even though they pay for this product, and they question how things are done cause they are A.) New B.) just not that creative or C.) Lame or D.) Unprepared and finally got picked OR All of the above.

They are just being difficult and need to step away from merchants and not bother them.

Asking for suggestions or help from someone skilled as the merchant/GM is suppose to be, is just wrong and takes up to much valuable time.

Come on guys. Give me a friggen break. No one wants to be that person but let me tell you, there are many of them out there. Doesn't make them bad people cause you have to wait in line. Sheese.

Sorry the GM has to put up with them to ?

Or maybe they should just be prepared beforehand, or at the very least get advice and help from the several people who offer that sort of help at pretty much every merchant gathering. What you've posted is no excuse, sry.

Also, lol at being unprepared and finally picked. I'd think if you're waiting around long enough to be "finally picked", you have enough time to come up with something. Waaahhhhhh.

I guess I misunderstood you then? The impression I got from your post was that it was laden with sarcasm in regards to us saying that people should be prepared at a merchant (my statement about people getting a clue after 6 years or whatever of feature alters, especially). Basically I thought you were making excuses for the people who were slow and/or unprepared when they should've had plenty of time to seek help from others if they really are creatively challenged.

As an aside, I don't have issues with asking GMs to help tweak a design. I've done it a few times before. Especially with Naionna's merchants because she pwns on the spot designs. I do have a problem with people who have NO idea what they want even after being at 10 merchants whining about how they never get picked.

edit: Oh and that neg rep wasn't me. I know you weren't saying it was, just wanted to let you know. :)

He is in good shape.
He is holding a vaalin-swept illthorn leaf pin in his right hand.
He is wearing a wiregrass anklet, an ale-stained leather tavern hat, a blackened veniom-veined chain, a faceted black crystal amulet, a ruby amulet, a deep black longcoat, a pair of black-tinted spectacles, a shaggy brown goat pin, some supple black leather gloves dusted with dragon's-tear rubies, a dragonfire opal hatpin, an ale-stained brown leather vest over a leather crafter's apron, some black battle leathers emblazoned with a bat on a field of yellow, a braided gold ring, an elegant black silk gem pouch, a pair of soot black twill trousers with small onyx buttons, and some dark rolled-top boots.

Speaking to Gardeth, you say, "You have to work on your accent."

My tip for the day:

Ismuri needs to interact with the people she's healing. She's like a vulture-bot sitting in the middle of town.

If you're going for the afk zombie look maybe you could stare blankly, and wander about with your arms outstretched in front of you.

If you want to be taken seriously, you could avail yourself of one of the many VERBS available in game besides slap. You could show some courtesy to the other empaths (or their players) in the square and acknowledge that you're about to heal someone. You don't have to nod, there are many other appropriate verbs as well as an endless selection of phrases. You could say "Thank you" when you get a nice tip, or "Glad to help" or "I like pain, yippee" or really anything at all to let people know that you're not afk or a complete psychotic only interested in yourself.

You are born Dhe'nar - they're technically a separate race from Faendryl dark elves. Compared to other races, though, "I just don't fit in" doesn't really cut it:

Dhe'nar also have very high expectations for those of their own kind. Members of their Family who fail to meet these expectations may be treated in a very harsh manner, expelled from the Family or murdered.

Been reading the backposts and came across this discussion. I play a Dhe'nar warrior whose great desire it is to be a spellcaster. His culture flag shows. There is nothing about him that marks him as a warrior except for his Caste tattoo (which most people don't notice, for some reason. I don't know why not, it's on his neck) When he was younger, he kept a low profile but as he's grown older I find myself being more obvious about his 'alternate path'. He is not your typical Dhe'nar in attitude either. It must be the human in him.

That being said, it's been fun to play 'outside of the lines' with this guy.

Most of those with or without the Dhe'nar flag set play "outside the lines". Same goes for just about any race/culture in GS, likely for the reasons you named. That being said, your character KNOWS that he is a pariah (unless I am mistaken). Especially if you're claiming to be a half-dhe'nar, which may or may not make sense at all depending on the use of the word Dhe'nar. In some contexts, it would be claiming to be half-fullblooded elf.

Yes, he knows he is Pak'ra, though he doesn't claim to be half-blood. He has some human and tends to blame his 'weaker' attributes on that ancestry.
