lol. Nah, to be honest, I've been addicted to this fucking thread on this forum...
http://www.fohguild.org/forums/screenshots/10545-funny-strange-random-pics-3208.html
^^ That's the last page of it (3208) I've been reading backwards and am on page.... 2240 (around 4/6/2009)... I come across them occasionally.
it's simply called "Funny, Strange, Random Pics". And it certainly is just that. Well... "Funny, Strange, Random, Nudie Pics" But still.
It's just full of insanely strange, random, fucked up, revolting (what I've seen cannot be unseen), sexy, hilarious, odd shit.

so i had an interesting day. have always been pissed at House for rescuing Shakira, and everyone tells me he's Shakira/Oblivion/Someone. this guy is no Maldric. So I saw him in Bonespear when I was executing Mordechai and decided to take on the challenge. I legged him/BARELY missed the head ambush, and he logs. Half an hour later, he logs in and has me written into his script. Next 2 times I show my face in Bonespear, I'm dead within 2-3 casts of whatever Cleric spell. First one was a damn waern sniffing me out, House did the rest. Second time, I use a blue crystal for once, damn waern sniffs me out again and I go up against his 430 DS. Third death was from carrying 100k accidentally and doing a climb... although I died a ton I don't think he had a good day at work.
Finally I decide to wise up and do it the right way. Brought out the blue crystal, feras mace (which I didn't need!!), and ambush enhancive. i have yet to use madness on anyone. so here goes...
[Bonespear Tower, Hallway]
There is not much left to this hallway, as most of it is scattered all over the floor. The wreckage was so intense that many of the ragged holes go clear through the bone walls, allowing the moonlight beyond to peek through. You also see an eidolon that appears stunned and a waern fur.
Also here: House

The problem here is that his idea of how things work is just a liiiittle off. See, in his eyes, it's harassing him if you kill him in retaliation for his decision to kill you.
Absolutely incorrect. If you ever read what I write, I've repeatedly stated that I fully expect people to retaliate against anything I've done, as well as I expect a few random kills here and there as well. This is Shattered, afterall, not prime.

I'm not gonna say the Marlu clan is universally a bunch of newbs (they had Madmountan, at least, who had some class)... but watching these logs for the last few weeks, it looks like a lot of them got power-drunk in the low levels with how easy it was to kill, and then it caught up with them and exposed that some of them aren't that great at this game. Some of the people they griefed early on (Leash) were near-legends in prime, and simply know the game better. Oblivion, for example, was like a really-poor-man's retarded Jenovadeath.
Aside from Madmountan, what are the chances any of these Marlu folks have ever had a character over the level of, say, 55-60?
The drama was fun while it lasted?
EDIT: Apologies for bloating Leash's ego.
I can't speak for everyone, but my sole purpose in Shattered is to have fun. To me, a moderate amount of conflict is fun. Repeatedly griefing, or getting griefed by the same person is not my idea of fun and so I tend to avoid both the best I can.
The last thing I want is for Shattered to turn into Robot Prime. Since the marlu folks have calmed down a bit, things have been boring. I've already had a few people tell me they are going to cancel because "everyone is a robot now" and "nothing happens anymore," etc.
I quite honestly do miss the conflict, for better or worse. I actually find watching my back to be enjoyable, because it adds tension and repercussion to my actions. I still have never deliberately "griefed" any innocent people, and think that shit has no place in the game. Conflict is fun, but we deserve each other more respect, as players and people, than to be repeatedly griefing someone into the ground.

The redux from the hit is 42.5% which is nothing special for a level 40ish character. Also, it's not possible to tell if there was any padding, as Donquix stated, due to randomization. The numbers are a bit off. Weighting is not halved and the armor crit divisor is 9 (non-plate covered area). So, it would be 105/9 without redux.
Redux calculation:
DF: .225 (claidhmore vs plate)
Endroll success margin: 290
Raw damage: 65 (.225 * 290)
Crit damage: 15 (slash - rank 5 neck)
Total unreduced damage: 80
Total reduced damage: 46
Redux factor: 1 - (46/80) = .425 or 42.5%
Mark
Why have you started putting your real name at the end of all your posts?

That is the biggest line of shit ever Calidus. Moderate amount of conflict? You guys used to go on your little killing parties twice a day. Killing the same person isnt your idea of fun? You went to the same area, at the same time every single night, sparing NO ONE.

say, is Mordie logged in today?
he's hunting the anti-magic area outside of Bonespear if anyone wants to get him. House is inside but he's a mean one so if you own him he'll feast on you, but i'm sure he's Shakira's alt. Shakira was at a table, dunno about now. Malevolence is MIA. Oblivion hasn't been logged in in a while.

There is nothing to buy.
What I prefer as a player, and want out of shattered, does not have to be congruent with the actions of every person I associate myself with. I'm merely telling you what I want from the server. I'd like mild to moderate conflict, formed naturally if possible. Enemies are fun to have, to a degree.
There were times where the same (innocent) person was killed a few times over by the group, but it was usually due to nondiscrimination and was during the time where we were playing the "pay the toll" game. These weren't deliberately-targeted griefees.
I've killed me fair share of people, and I've personally helped many of them afterward. My conscience is a loud and whiny bitch, and usually doesn't let me get away with undeserved acts of violence. Most random/innocent people I've killed have been during the few gate camps and "hunts" we did... which I believe was only about a week or so of time.
I've never deliberately gone after an innocent person with the intention of griefing, repeat-killing, or otherwise ruining their time in the game, and I don't plan to start.
I'm beginning to feel like I'm talking to myself.

Maldric is online, probably table raising
Dart = Cervina = always at the table and never really a problem.
Shakira = House = Someone. Someone never leaves the table, House only messed with Jaeden, and Shakira doesn't seem to be bothering anyone at present. You can bet your ass once Someone hits 100 he'll be griefing.
Daffy - Never seen leave a table. I see people get invites from Daffy though.
Bad = Cthulu, low level sorcerer who doesn't pose a threat to anyone now.
Nostradamus - 50's maybe early 60's empath who is riding it out until 100.
Clio - Useless.
Feanor/Dugul, no idea who they are.
Mooch - Never seen leave a table.
So, yah, they're pretty well erased.

For the most part your list was right. Someone is also oblivion. Fiddlesticks/Jeckyl/addiction is nearing 30's if not all the way there. Watch out for him in the future. Amazing scripter that knows game functions. He is the one that is invisible and steals boxes at the townsmith. Celebros/Feanorl/Dugul and about 5 other bots just joined. Everyone else in the group is quietly leveling until they have a chance to defend themselves when they start killing again.
Oh, the Marlu, and their ever so faithful members. Said member requested that I keep information secret so I'm posting part of what he said anonymously for him.

How sad is life when you have to generate Gemstone drama to keep it interesting? I'm in Marlu and I couldn't possibly give less of a shit about above posts, with the exception of the GM passing spiffy level information, but that's a problem I have with Simutronics and their bored housewife workforce and not anything a player is doing.
I've got rep comments before that were obviously from GMs giving me info about Vanguard that they shouldn't give. It's shitty of them to do and it pissed me off every time they did it. Just do your jobs and show a little professionalism.
No player should be pleased about getting favors from GMs because it swings both ways.

They posted my Empath's exact level. I literally just leveled an hour or two ago, and haven't cast a CS spell since 12. I don't really care what you make of it -- it is obviously a GM inspecting player levels then giving Spiffy a rep with the list. If you're happy fine, but there is nothing stopping a GM from playing favorites in the future in a way which hurts you. Trust me.. They've done it already in Shattered. You don't even want to know about some of the gear that was given to Marlu. It would make Inspire go on a ranting spree on the officials.

Heh. It wasn't a GM, but I like the way you always jump to that conclusion. You might as well say, "The gods are against me!" It exonerates you and excuses you in the same fashion.

I don't think arguing's going to do any good, Necen. Everyone knows that every time a Marlu DC's it's our fault, with denial-of-service attacks. Every time we hear information it's from GMs spying. Every time someone has an issue with Lich it's because Tillmen is sabotaging them for us. Come on Necen, just admit it. We're up there with satellites and uber-hackers, taking over their PCs and harassing them IRL. I heard that Pandin's next trick is going to be sneaking into their houses overnight and replacing their milk with curdled stuff. And Ifor is paying off all the police in their home towns to ticket them daily. ::roll eyes::

What was I trying to exonerate or excuse? You didn't even respond to the discussion at hand.
The only other option would be Tillmen abusing the users of his LichNet, but he wouldn't need to give that info in an anonymous rep comment, and I really would like to think he wouldn't do that kind of shit. If this was a Vanguard member you would share the info through your normal channels.
Like I said, I've got information via anonymous rep comments before that couldn't have come from anyone but a GM, and I've got favors in-game from GMs who like to help out the Marlu people. Why would this be any different? I'm speaking out against all forms of favoritism, and not just that which makes my butt hurt. I'm baffled as to why any of you, as players, would be happy about this.
The point is it's your own fucking clan.
A) Who in my clan is able to access my character information, as none of them are on any kind of friends list?
B) Why would they bother with an anonymous PM when they have no problem giving other information face-to-face?

Mocking:
1 : to treat with contempt or ridicule : deride
2 : defy, challenge
3: to mimic in sport or derision
See? Mocking does not require you to agree / disagree or even to have input. I believe I've grasped the fundamentals. Have you?

This was different than random chatter and passing of info between Vanguard and Marlu. This was specific info that only a GM would have, or I guess Tillmen, but like I said Tillmen would just tell you and not do an anon rep comment, and he seems like a pretty stand-up guy.
Anything you guys learn through moles or chat is unimportant -- I would happily talk to you, Necen, or anyone else about my character levels, what scripts I run, where I hunt, game mechanics, etc. I don't care about any of that stuff and never have. It's just a game. The out-of-game animosity is pointless and silly.
I'm only mildly annoyed at the GM intervention, in the same way that I would be if I played Counter Strike and the server admin gave himself infinite money. Yeah they've outdone the original, which is quite a feat. Lag free, bug free, perfect experience on launch day with who knows how many people trying to play. Only Blizzard can pull that off.
One feature I like about the replays is the little camera button in the bottom right near the player names. Clicking it lets you can see exactly what part of the map the player was watching and where they were clicking on the screen. Its really entertaining to see them *just* miss a sneak attack or enemy builder unit sneaking into their base to set something up.

Mordechai lost his altered bonded weapon, the lance of darkness or whatever it was called, when he was afk. He's probably off sulking in a corner somewhere. Boo hoo.
isnt the whole point of a bonded weapon that you get it back?!

Not if you slam right after. He probably lost connection then got gang attacked. Or he got bit and the poison disarmed him, then he got nailed by another and slammed. If he dropped it and another walked in, bigshot will move on regardless. I had this issue with shan warriors disarming me. They would walk in and disarm me within the 3 seconds of my channeling time. Who the hell knows. But its great. Wonder if the marlu can is going to kill innocents until someone returns it. Sounds like a mordieriffic plan to me.

Calidus is also under the truce, and is only being attacked by Bloodninja. As Bloodninja has pointed out, I've been stubbornly hunting the same place the past few weeks and that's one of the reasons he keeps getting attacked.
The reason Calidus isn't logged in much lately is because I've been too tired, busy, lazy, etc to keep him safely hunting. Plus a few other reasons. He's a bitch to afk level (ambushing rogue, no defense, no TD, etc). He's been dying far more often from critters with CS attacks the past few weeks than he was from PvP, and I don't have the time or energy to keep checking on him and restarting his scripts and shit lately.
Maldric has been doing some hunting, but it's much easier for him to afk hunt than Calidus, and then of course table rezzing is hands-free.
More evidence of Calidus not being "forced" off is that even Maldric is offline for at least a few hours (or more) each day lately. Likewise, I do have other alts and neither of them has been online. I have a level 26 and 18 character, and both have been offline for almost a week.
I'll make a bullet list for ya:
* Tired
* Busy
* Lazy
* Computer has been crashing/restarting a lot
* Been playing Starcraft 2 and a few other games, and ruby eats up precious CPU cycles so I tend to close GS during those times
* General reduction in interest/enjoyment in GS/Shattered lately, most likely a result of being a bit burned out on it
* Less excitement playing because everyone is afk scripting and nothing happens anymore
* Some of the people I play with are either playing less, or quitting entirely
Also, while I actually enjoy script-writing and such, doing nothing but AFK scripting in game is boring to me. I was signed in 24/7 before because I was having fun with the conflict and was trying to keep up with the jones'. Nowadays it's just a robot race to level 100. The only reason I'm still playing at all is because I know how much fun it was a few weeks ago, and I hope that I will start having fun again, have more free time IRL, and will be able to participate in some of the future fun... if there is any.
One thing is for sure, I should have gone with my gut instinct and made a Sorc (which is what I was in prime). Leveling is so hassle-free in comparison to an ambushing rogue... :P

They saw the lack of strong leadership. They found the lack of real 'goals'. They realized the gap in logic of the premise. And turned each member against the general idea. Enough to make them reroll and even denounce the clan all together.

There was never really an organization or goal to begin with -- just some like-minded players that enjoy PvP and needed spell-ups and services like lockpicking. If individual goals aligned (like Mordechai wanting to extort people, and my wanting to PvP), then that's all there was to it. Nothing anyone did has altered my behavior or lessened my desire to PvP in Gemstone, unless you're a Blizzard developer for StarCraft.
Your bar to measure success by is "kill them until they quit", which is self-defeating and stupid. Gemstone has a very limited community; any time you make someone quit you take a significant piece of the game away, no matter how much you may dislike them. I've never personally had the goal of making someone quit, although I don't doubt that at least one or two did so. If they'd of talked to me first they would have found me both affable and more than willing to leave them alone if it was obviously a major source of angst.
I fully intend to continue PvPing in Shattered, but never at the level some of you play at. I could easily kill the same people I don't like over and over, but I would feel like a massive douchebag after a day or two of it. That's saying a lot about some of you, coming from me.

I very much wish Mordechai would quit and, if he has, the server is better off without him. I'm sure others would agree with me.

Gemstone's PvP sucks. Every single class has one maneuver that they are able to entirely decimate another class with given the jump. You're doing right by playing SC2 (I caved and downloaded it).

Mordie will live on - he will write an epic ballad accompanied by guitar about the whole affair. you know he had fun doing what he did.. plus he's perfectly content playing SC2
but he knows deep down in his nerdy heart that he got owned
so why make a career out of this issue guys..
the guy went around in the CATACOMBS at night killing "for Marlu"
..when he was level 25+
he did this countless nights, sometimes camping the gate.. he was basically playing king of the hill with him and his buddies vs the server..

Were you waiting for a certified letter delivered to your apartment? You are like a bunch of fucking idiots sitting in an interrogation room after you rob a liquor store and kill the clerk. I never said I was innocent of PvPing, nor did I ever get "busted" into behaving a certain way. I'm only speaking for myself only here, and not anyone else in Marlu. You're trying to project the actions and reactions of many other players onto me and I don't answer for them.
Of course people complained about getting killed. Nobody wants their character to die. My statement was only that I've never killed anyone excessively (subjective) with the intention of making them quit, and had they spoke with me saying that I was going to make them do so, I would have ceased pestering them for a while. You're reading too much into what I said. The only people I killed more than a handful of times were probably Puffy and Banjo, both of whom were just unlucky to get caught by my scripts too many times. I ended up adding both to my DNK list because I felt bad.
I don't care that some wanted to be left alone -- this is a multiplayer game. Having to interact with people is what it's all about, and sometimes they won't all behave in a way which is desirable.

My goal was never to terrorize or extort scripters. My goal was to play GS with a healthy amount of conflict.
As for my opposition being higher, I never believed or pretended that I could fully keep up with everyone's level.
Also, I didn't say I play less lately as a result of my many deaths per night. Maldric never dies, nor do my alts, and they are often logged out as well.

I already said that I'm sure they exist, but that I haven't seen many. I only clicked a few of those links, but the majority of them weren't even complaining or upset in any way.
For example:
Sloot is working great to avoid picking up cursed stuff from the ground. I was using townsmith earlier tonight to open boxes at the locksmith and ended up with cursed chests in my hand... So, like the picture states: can't get pure potions because my hands are full!

I don't need a grand moral justification to PvP. It's fun, and the worst it is going to do to someone is annoy them. Somehow I'll manage to sleep okay tonight with that on my conscience.
Can we stop acting like PvP is anything more than it is? Let's leave the over-emotional Nerdstone bullshit behind in Prime.
Regardless the group is in shambles and there are only 3 left who wholeheartedly back it.
The group was never not in shambles. Like I said literally a few posts before this, had you bothered to read -- there is no organization or over-arching goals. Just players wanting to PvP.
Necen and Co. gave it all of the other attributes that they could then fight against, which is fine. It was fun for them, just like it's fun for me to PvP.

I've come to realize that BriarFox only sees what he wants to see -- your post is an excellent example. Attempting to engage him in rational discussion is a frivolous exercise. Ironically he won't even be able to read this without it getting mind-fucked into something else entirely that only makes sense to him. His megalomania is a sad affair.

Except...you weren't PvPing. For the most part you were griefing people 10-20 levels beneath you.
When PvP happened (vanguard) all the sudden you didn't care as much about the game anymore and got more interested in other activities (or anonymous alts, or sitting at a table getting risk-free exp).
This is a common misconception with regards to the meaning of PvP. You don't like PvP...you like being a bully. When the shit got real, you suddenly become aloof and noncommittal to the game. Shocking and unexpected development.
And I can't speak for anyone else, but the truly idiotic thing the lot of you do is the "we're doing it for the good of the game! Someone has to be a villain!" card. No, you aren't. You like pushing people around who can't push back, I (and likely several others) would have much more respect for you if you would just say "i'm an asshole. I like ganking kids that can't realistically fight back" instead of trying the faux martyr card.

Massive reading for comprehension failure on your part. I addressed everything you said in earlier posts, including the one you quoted. You could have saved yourself looking like an asshat and taken 2 minutes to read.
You're hopelessly wrong about everything, and also nerd-raging to boot.
I never said I wanted to play a villain or make the game better. Where did you get that stupid idea from? I just said the PvP was fun for those involved, which it was.
My primary PvP character only died 3 or 4 times to other players, and the vast majority of his kills were non-AFK people at least 10 levels over him who were also engaging in PvP. It never "got real" for me. It got a little boring, and not worth $20 for the account. You're obviously a sideliner who wasn't directly involved but is enjoying a little bandwagon ride. Wheee!

You forgot one:
Killing someone who is not AFK while you are AFK is heroic.
I only ever considered it PvP when the person I killed was at the computer (such as our group battles around Sol Haven). If I killed someone who was obviously AFK hunting I never bragged about it or felt particularly good about it. I just chalked it up to shit rolling downhill and them living in the valley.

Also, I have to admit that while "Find some" didn't work, I just now tried "find Someone" and it did.

I did. That was the night that Cthulu offered me a free kill outside West Gate. I took him up on the offer, then Mad showed up out of nowhere and started attacking me, despite Cthulu saying out loud to cut it out. So I returned the favor. You happened to get the last blow in with the void.

[wander]>go doorway

Weeds grow up between the tiles paving this small courtyard. Broken chairs lie scattered about, and the rusted frame of a once glaes-topped table leans sadly to one side. Although only three stories tall, the square tower is substantial -- its walls constructed of large stone blocks. Clearly more defensible than the manor house, the tower is crowned with battlements that provide deadly vantage points for its occupants. Yeah, to the best of my recollection you've got me once or twice while AFK, Pandin did once (maybe twice?) while AFK, Tillmen 3 times while AFK, Necro/Razor once, Skeletor once on accident. Buddy should have but I slammed like a pussy. I think some dude killed me twice randomly before level 10. I may be missing one or two others but that about sums up my ego-shattering ownage that made me quit Gemstone forever.

[Manor House, East Entryway]
Unadorned woodwork surrounds the maoral door that is the eastern entrance to the manor house. Doorways leading to the north and south provide ready access to the manor's laundry and kitchen respectively. A wide corridor runs to the west, with doors leading off of it and the manor's western entryway visible at the far end. The inlaid pattern of the wooden floor has warped and discolored, but the plaster of the walls and ceiling is still intact.

In that log he wasn't AFK. He was in my hunting zone trying to kill me. Anyone could write or run that kind of script.. It's like 5 lines long.
If I was hunting him it would have been from invis with an instant kill (or forced void RT). I never specifically went after anyone in their AFK hunting spots. It would have been boring.

Please share your secret AFK script technology you developed that makes it so much more exciting than mine or anyone elses. The fun part for me is a month and a half away.
that script is much better than doing it manually
but a script doesn't adapt like a human can. awesome job though, its the most owned i've been except for the day House owned me. so you've got the top 2 spots

Its gonna be fun for us too, you'd be better off staying at the table until you are 3x cap. Even then it wont make a difference either way. Your not as far ahead as you think.
I'm paying $20 a month hoping and expecting people will come out to fight with me. I don't want to be running around murdering AFK zombies. I'm not as easily amused as Jaeden or Bloodninja -- it would be satisfying for about a day, if that.
I didn't think I was very far ahead at all. In fact I'm pretty sure I'm not even the highest level at the moment.
It's gonna be Empath Wars though for a while until people catch up..

in fact it IS more fun when people have a combat script up to tussle with me when i come for them..

You don't have to cap to find out. The area right outside your table is fine, stop sancting it. Go hunt or something, you'd be pleasantly surprised how many people don't like table healers/rezzers.

It's not their fault. Who wouldn't exploit it if they could (well I wouldn't and don't, 2 empaths both of them hunting - but I see the lure and it's probably more out of laziness that I don't).
I don't blame the players at all. It's like blaming somebody for using your unsecured wifi. Blame Simu for not tying off that loophole to begin with. This isn't a new issue, and any solution to a coding problem that involves having a human swing a ban hammer at the player is absolutely the incorrect solution.
These aren't difficult problems, coding wise. Let's call a spade a spade here; Simu is just too small of a company with too few (if any) decent coders. As such, Gemstone is a patchwork quilt of coding mediocrity with loopholes galore.

I haven't seen an action by Simu in at least 10 years that would lead me to believe that they're interested in making money off of Gemstone or that they make decisions toward that regard.
In fact, Shattered itself seems more like a 'why the fuck not?' decision than a monetary decision.

i wonder why? they obviously have a very loyal player base. the game is addicting. i wonder what gives over there. bad management or just anticipation that a text game will eventually die?

i see it kind of like an island game of starcraft. a complete newb (the Marlus) got a 10 minute head start, dropped a few incoherent units which did little damage, and then the other player came back and micro'd the hell out of them until they pulled the plug

They just say whatever makes them feel good about acting the way they do. They have to justify it in some way. Regardless the group is in shambles and there are only 3 left who wholeheartedly back it.

I'm guessing by going back to the table for another few months until you cap.
Coming out, killing 1 or 2 people, then dying a bunch, deciding you're done with the game now that you've capped and finally canceling/selling out.
