Someone my level using a powerful scripting engine would have a pretty good chance of seeing him off even when they are afk. I am just using SF scripts which don't try to stop him and he waits until I am afk before killing me.

I also see the Marlu's are claiming him as one of their own again. Here is a clip of the sort of thing that the miserable weeds think is making them happy. Wait for someone to go afk and then kill the character.

Two examples of how slamming = win (even though I don't personally believe in it):

1. You come back one hour later to find that your character auto-slammed when someone attacked you. You log in, nobody is there, you run to town and get healed and resume hunting. Whether you would have died while AFK or not, you still lost the hour. Now you didn't lose the hour PLUS get deaths sting for N number of hours afterward (or lose any silvers or additional time losing the death's sting).

2. This one is pretty common too: You are at the keyboard or generally aware within a few minutes that you slammed to avoid death, whether via script or manually. You let your clan know, via alt or AIM that you were just attached in room 5478. The whole clan runs out to the room, kills the idiot that just tried and failed to kill you, heals you, and you are about your merry way.

I've seen both happen plenty of times just this week. Both save exp over not slamming, mostly due to avoiding death sting.

Right, but the pejorative tone in which we are talking about slamming almost seems to pre-suppose that we have anything we can do about someone coming upon us and attacking us while we are AFK to the point where our auto-slam safety script triggers.

If you were going to die anyway, you are better off slamming. If you were going to die anyway...pointing out that Slamming still gives you exp loss is just kind of silly. You almost always lose less exp than had you not slammed, unless you accidentally slam post death.

If you are interested in progressing the fastest way possible, and since you cannot control the actions of other players, slamming seems like the experience-conscious thing to do.

I don't think anyone was saying that Slamming can magically erase the fact that I was attacked hard enough to have needed to have slammed in the first place. People will take their breaks where they can get them. Having a character not attack them in the first place is not one of those breaks.

That assuming that leveling is a priority to them. I don't think they will be around much longer...at least in the characters they have. It wouldn't surprise me that some of them are leveling a character on the side to be their main later.

I also died once to Buddy while I was actually at the keyboard. So far, Buddy is the only person to have actually engaged me in real time PvP and kill me. I'm not saying that's a criteria for success, I'm just laying down reality here.

During the same timespan, I have gained 5 levels and wracked up 100+ kills of my own (no, not against all Vanguard people. Again, they are hunting us. Our specific mission has nothing to do with hunting them, so we kill everyone else AND them).

The success rates against most of the other members are similar. I don't think anyone else has even been killed enough to notice, or to have a chance to accrue death's sting.

As townkiller said, we have multiple clerics, multiple empaths, and plenty of other people at our disposal. We haven't begun to be effected. People need to step it up quite a bit, lest they been seen as pulling a GWB:

There's like 2 people that you have killed more than an average of like once every three days. Very successful at killing the group.

Shattered would be even more filled with mindless robots if this conflict didn't exist. I think what a lot of people miss is that it's fun to have enemies. Sometimes you will learn that you like or dislike particular enemies more than others, and you may even find yourself allied in the future. But the fun is in the conflict.

Group A, group B, whatever. It's all the same. Someone had to be group A first, or there wouldn't be a group B or C.

Participating in these fights is so much more satisfying than watching Bigshot every night, no matter the outcome.

Interesting that you think every time you see " * Calidus just bit the dust! " it's at the hands of another player.

On a typical day, I'm attacked around 4-6 times and usually survive all but 1 or 2. All of these attacks come when I am afk, and I only die to the people who are able to 1-shot me.

Despite being attacked 4-5 times a day, it's extremely rare that I am ever attacked while at the keyboard, much less killed. In fact, I can't recall a single instance where I was actually killed while at the keyboard, other than when Jaeden got me with spiked thorn outside the gate once and when Seombody got me with boil earth weeks ago. I'm actually curious how well I can defend against an attack on me, but every attack comes while I'm afk.

The worst and most frustrating day I've had was when I died 15 times in 2 days, the majority coming from being death crit by critters. During this time, I had about 2k to go to hit level 25, and the worst of it came when I had 400exp left and died another 5 times. I was killed by players while bigshotting a few times, and the rest all came from environment. I'd finally get fried and then a cyclops would get a 100 roll on me and barely hit me but I would get a death crit... over and over. Finally, I learned that my armor was sitting in my cloak, which was why my DS was low and why I was getting death crit every time I was hit. I have no clue how my armor got there, but I wanted to fucking nerd rage up until the point that I discovered what the problem was.

There were a few rough patches in general last week, but I believe since last weekend I've only died once from other players.

Experience/time lost is mostly due to Calidus' inability to afk hunt well with his build.

Throughout this week there has been overall less PvP from me, as I've been busy and exhausted and just scripting mostly, but I believe the only kill on me all week was the weapon fire one from Bloodninja the other day. Meanwhile, I've been periodically taking out targets, such as the people who attack me overnight, with no problem.

I got Charlie a few times throughout the week, and after my last kill he went after Maldric and couldn't kill him, was chased away by the others, and then I saw him on lnet asking people where to hunt safely in EN.

Nobody should be surprised to see an AFK person get slammed by their script when low on health. Seeing as all their attacks on me/us are while we are AFK, that is why they experience so many slams.

Not sure what exaggerations you are referring to; as usual, I back up my experiences with facts and numbers while you just call people liars with no real support.

Also not sure how a slam would cost someone more experience than a death. My script slammed twice today from critters, and I was able to log back in remotely, get healed, and continue on my way. I even did it right from my phone one of the times. If I died, that would have forced me to find an empath and a a cleric or wait to decay, or depart with extra penalties. Then I would need to rest while all my stats come back, possibly buy CON or String potions, possibly deeds, re-buff up, then finanlly get back to hunting.

As usual, though, believe what you want.

How are people figuring a slam as being the same as, or better than, a death? Sounds like you're padding your egos over failed kill attempts.


Death: Loss of xp in brain, loss of deed, having to get a rescue or having to decay and pay off the priestess. Out of the game for X hours.

Alive: No loss of xp in brain, no loss of deed, no rescue required, no paying the priestess required. Out of the game for X hours.

Slamming alive wins.

I'll pay 100k to anyone who can soundly defeat the above logic. Until that happens anyone equivocating a slam to a death is just a scrub.

Everyone I've seen slams on death with the exception of just a few (and then they end up like Plainview with 2 million silver Death Stings).

Having to get rescued by a group isn't a benefit. It's another penalty. How did you refute the argument with that? A person who slams alive needs no group rescue which was the point of my post.

We're talking about total experience gain, and in this scenario, we're assuming the person is AFK:

Death: A person who dies and gets rescued by their group suffers no penalties other than the CON hit for a normal death. The group may even have a chrism. Said person goes back to hunting after recovery. Total experience and time lost ~30 min.

Slam: Person slams and stays logged out until person gets home from work, etc. Total time and experience lost varies between 5 minutes and 8 hours.

Slamming is better when you're going after AFK people. Death and a slam is even better. If the person is ATK, then a death is better. If the person is not being rescued by a group, then a death is better.
