The best part about Calidus's demand for facts is that it's mostly hypocritical. He did post a few in this thread for once. In general, though, the Marlus are the ones just making the baseless assertions.
And 100k, please!
When you refute his argument you can have 100k. You haven't. You posted a bunch of silly crap.
Go back to what I said about this pages back:
Really?
Two examples of how slamming = win (even though I don't personally believe in it):
1. You come back one hour later to find that your character auto-slammed when someone attacked you. You log in, nobody is there, you run to town and get healed and resume hunting. Whether you would have died while AFK or not, you still lost the hour. Now you didn't lose the hour PLUS get deaths sting for N number of hours afterward (or lose any silvers or additional time losing the death's sting).
2. This one is pretty common too: You are at the keyboard or generally aware within a few minutes that you slammed to avoid death, whether via script or manually. You let your clan know, via alt or AIM that you were just attached in room 5478. The whole clan runs out to the room, kills the idiot that just tried and failed to kill you, heals you, and you are about your merry way.
Your rebuttal assumes that the slammer doesn't have access to log back in. That's a horrible premise from which to start your rebuttal. Between VPNs, Phones, Logmein.com, etc. its really not hard to get logged back into the game.
The point is that Slamming *almost always* results in less exp loss than death. Whether you die and your script slams you, or you slam before dying, you are logged out the same amount of time, which is until you can log back in. Add in the penalties and inconvenience costs of dying, and slamming is almost always better.
Your rebuttal is "well I can think of an exception to the rule". A. You really didn't. Slamming still provides less overall loss even in most of your scenarios. B. Coming up with an exception to the rule (meaning that 1% of the time the rule isn't true) is not "defeating Monotonous' logic." You haven't earned the 100k.
Here's what just happened, to make it more clear. Monotonous said, "Here in the United States the sun appears to rise and set every day. I'll give you 100k if you can prove me wrong." You responded with "LAWLZ, I live in Alaska, you are wrong. 100k plz."
No. Can you come up with a convoluted set of facts that includes group rescue, chrism, using a hunting script that doesn't slam on death, the person has no access to log back into the game all day, etc. where death is preferable slamming? Sure. Did you refute Monotonous' logic? No.
Monotonous

We're talking about total experience gain, and in this scenario, we're assuming the person is AFK:
Death: A person who dies and gets rescued by their group suffers no penalties other than the CON hit for a normal death. The group may even have a chrism. Said person goes back to hunting after recovery. Total experience and time lost ~30 min.
Slam: Person slams and stays logged out until person gets home from work, etc. Total time and experience lost varies between 5 minutes and 8 hours.
Slamming is better when you're going after AFK people. Death and a slam is even better. If the person is ATK, then a death is better. If the person is not being rescued by a group, then a death is better.
I think we're generally in agreement, but you're making a stretch to try to claim my spectacular 100k prize! I'm just talking straight AFK Slammed Alive vs AFK Slammed Dead which is what the vast majority of situations are going to be.
AFK Slammed Alive requires no chrisms, no support groups, no nothing other than just logging back in.
AFK Slammed Dead requires chrisms, priestess flasks and/or support groups, with the added negative of downtime from stat recovery and loss of brain xp.
If you feel differently, then why do you try to slam your character before he dies? Why not wait until after he was dead if it's more beneficial?
I keep my 100k!!

Yeah we do have to factor that in our analysis. My theory is that the hotdog begins to shrink and fold in, producing a Jennifer Lopez flavored taco. I need to do more analysis on the Hurrr and Durrr quotients to see if the HurrrDurrr ratio is appropriate though.

I think I've made my argument pretty clear. In many scenarios, yes, a death is better than a slam, but in one rather large exception, a slam is better than a death, and that's when the person is AFK and doesn't have access to the game and their corpse would be rescued by their group. Just because you do have access, that doesn't mean that it's common. Even in your case, you've claimed that you check every couple of hours. 2 hours of lost experience is better than 30 minutes of lost experience. So, the exception is not "a bunch of silly crap;" it's an important qualification. Without it, the initial argument is flawed. In general, though, yes, a death is better than a slam, or a death and slam is better than just a slam.

At this point, we're just arguing over the semantics of "soundly defeat."
Um. No.
You still don't get it. If you don't have access to the game, a slam and a death are the same thing. That whole line of reasoning is moot. To make my point, I'm going to make up some statistics here:
90%+ of the people playing Shattered use Lich
90%+ of the people who have Lich use Starscream or Bigshot when AFK hunting
At least 75% of the people that use Starscream or Bigshot EITHER have it log them out upon death, or usually die without being rescued (or have their group closed, etc) and lie there motionless at the altar after they decay until they either log back in, or put eyes on the computer and notice they are at the alter.
Plug whatever numbers you want into the above. Not being able to log into the game has no appreciable effect over experience loss whether its a slam or death. Either way the guy isn't logging back in. Had you KILLED him, he would both have lost all that time AND need a rez AND have to pay/wait off sting AND spell back up, ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC.
Again, almost always, Slamming is a win on the EXP front. The "not being able to log back in" thing is generally a distraction from the issue.

Okay, I'll restate that since my point got lost.
Why would anyone AFK slam while alive if it was worse than AFK slamming while dead?
I think we all just need to own up that making someone slam isn't as good as killing them. Anyone counting those as kills is being a scrub and needs to improve their one-shot game.

who cares if you stop their EXP, they will just find some sneaky ass way to keep leveling or level on an alt.
I like beheading them, so they walk into their computer room completely logged out like "what the fuck happened? did my script fail?" then they bring in their little crew to rezz and they get field raised, only to find they have a level 3 head crit and can't do shit without an empath or tons of herbs. then, they check their auto-log, and they see Jaeden leaps from a hiding attack! smashing their head off and they get the funny feeling in their tummy like when they backed down from that fight in the locker room in 8th grade LOL

You're arguing, for the most part, a point I agree with and one which wasn't the argument I was originally making. A death is generally better than a slam, but there are scenarios where a slam is better. They're not even that uncommon. Even then, though, a death and a slam is better than a slam alone. I'm not refuting those points.

I think what Necen is saying is that a slam is really, really, REALLY weak and is a dishonor, so that's why it's better than a death (in terms of getting someone to slam, under the right conditions.) I think Khariz is right that from an EXP perspective obviously slamming is better. But really, logging out of the game? That's like me going to the ghetto and starting shit with a gang and then magically teleporting back to my suburban cozy-land the second before I get shot in the face. Or, freezing time before I get shot in the face, and bringing in the swat team before resuming time.

That's not what I'm saying, man. Basically, my point is that if I have to choose between killing a guy who's going to get back up immediately and slamming a guy who's going to be logged out of the game for awhile, I'll choose to slam (and ideally kill) the guy who's going to be logged out. That's a pretty common scenario, and it has no bearing on the overall relationship between dying and slamming. My bad if that wasn't clear.
If you can disprove that argument, this time I'll give you 100k.

This suggestion on the officials was pretty cool:
Implement an enraged PC effect instead. If you slam after being recently attacked by a PC, then once you come back into the game that player is notified and has the option (within, say, 10 seconds) to ACCEPT RAGE and instantly teleport to your location with a short boost (say, 10 seconds) of RAGE. Higher combat stats across the board. Lulz ensue.

Some of you fuckers don't deserve a fair death.
Also, it's not like spamming spiked thorn at someone who is AFK is any different.
Lastly, I'm using the tools available to me. I would be stupid not to.
And yet you gloat like you like you just scored with Bob Saget.

puhleez. Sunburst is legit.
What's gay is your clan hiding in tables, sancts, and town justice. You got nothing without those.

Yeah. Unlike that Necen guy, who sits in a sanct and heals all day, only to come out in the middle of the night to attack people AFK-hunting.

[Wehnimer's, Outside Gate]
Citizens, merchants and assorted dregs of society jostle against you before the great wooden gates of Wehnimer's Landing. Harried guards and militiamen try to keep the chaos to a minimum, but it is hard to keep track of those entering, let alone leaving, this large trading post. A dirt path encircling the wooden palisade of the town leads east and southwest. Nailed prominently to the wooden wall beside the gate is a sign you really should read. You also see a Wayside Inn.

You realize that the "cman rogue" and "ambushing rogue" are the same rogue?
Also, some of those logs are from different events.
I ambushed Necromonger and Razorfang by myself. I hit Razor, killed Necro, then Razor ran off and died a few rooms later.
The other log was just myself and Madmountan versus the two of them.
You've got things backwards. I was attacked by a group of 4-5 of them while I was hunting Cyclops. They left me with 8hp but weren't able to kill me. I later found two of them and attacked them by myself.
I was alone when 4-5 of them attacked me, and I was alone when I attacked the two of them. I made it out of both alive, they didn't.

The best part about Marlu is that if you are in the same hunting area as one of them, doing a bounty or whatever, they just start taking a swing at you and tell you to stop getting them killed or bugging them.
When you ask them what they are even talking about they tell you that you are the cause of people coming around from Vanguard or whatever to kill them.
I mostly was amused at the statement that "I" was causing them to be killed not their behavior towards others in the game.

Ive not heard of this. If you could please tell us who and provide a log? That seems odd, and not in line with what we do.
The correct, default behavior is for them to check the DNK, see if you are there. If not? Kill you, and inform you that you may pay a weekly fee in order to hunt in the area we control safely. If you are on the KOS, they just kill you and if you ask why to inform you to speak to me about how you can be removed from the KOS list.

Creatures engaged in the room during a logoff will "wander off to find their target", then return when you log back in with an enrage bonus about the same as 117.
Incidentally, you can defeat this mechanic by getting out of the room within the first 8 seconds of logging back in.

I think it is something like their next round of attack. For some creatures that's a long time. For others it can be as little as 3 seconds. Creatures that cast will actually prep a spell, wait a round, then hit you with it with a much higher CS, but by that time you might have been able to get out of the area.

I believe if you're logged out long enough they do disappear. Usually overnight works for me. The grimswarm, in camps, though, are a lot faster to disperse and don't seem to have the revenge mechanic.
Another good trick.. if you're hunting and a creature knocks you to the floor or to kneeling, and you're in stance off.. as long as you're not stunned, if you quit and log back in, you'll be in stance def. If you're stunned, though, you'll come back in stance off even if you were in def when you were originally stunned.

Weeds grow up between the tiles paving this small courtyard. Broken chairs lie scattered about, and the rusted frame of a once glaes-topped table leans sadly to one side. After Marlu's decimating defeat yesterday I'm surprised they're still trying. I don't know why these kids show loyalty to Mordechai. As far as I can tell he does shit to help them out and scripts most of the day - the exact thing people in the cult wanted to avoid. Renounce all ties to that idiot and you won't die from the Vanguard again.

i'm not saying i'm sticking up for the credibility of Saddam Hussein, a rather secular dictator who displaced ethnic Kurds in the North, gassed them, etc.. what I'm sticking up for is the right of humanity to be protected under international law.
Here's a video of a cameraman and his assistant being gunned down along with 15 other innocent civilians. The violation of international law is contained later in the video, where the helicopter fires upon a vehicle that has come to rescue these men.

Not defending what IW is saying by any means, but if groups of armed men are barging through families' doors and telling them they are going to store weapons in their homes or else they are going to kill them, what do you expect them to do? Resist men armed with ak-47's with a frying pan?

The trolling at first happened by accident, as I wasn't all too privy to the etiquette of posting in general, having spent 6 years completely away from the game and this social network in general. People gave me a lot of shit and created the monster. I'm willing to end the nightmare! I agree man, seriously. And I didn't even do it intentionally. I just made a completely biased and uneducated comment and everyone blew it way out of proportion.

This seems very unlikely.
It also violates his "contract". Until he pledges to not post under any name, the Marlu gang should be left alone.

I suppose it would be pointless for me to object to the vomit pictures. Vomit is my kryptonite. It gives me a literal gag reflex. Maybe you can put them all in one thread. I'd rather look at the video of the man puncturing his testicles with needles 500 times than look at a picture of vomit.
Who is that in your avatar?
