That's what I said at the outset, in a succinct, thoughtful, well reasoned post about the probability of beating Russia and the magnitude of loss of Ukrainian life. But Certain People were like, "No, Ukraine should fight to the last man! And you're an idiot for suggesting otherwise!" Now, after Ukrainians bet their lives on support pledged by their fair-weather hawkish friends, those Certain People have belatedly switched sides. Wonder why? Well, it's too late now. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have died in the conflict. We were wrong to encourage this fight, but we would be more wrong to abandon Ukraine during the middle of it. I'm all in. Slava Ukraini!
- Parkbandit -"Not surprised you would be promoting the cowardly approach to this."
- Suppressed Poet - "They said the same thing about Finland not having any chance in hell in the Winter War, but they put up a heavy resistance. The Russians eventually won (technically) but it was very costly & embarrassing for the Red Army."
- Gelston - "Yeah, everyone should just roll over for Russia. You're an idiot."
- Aflster - "You're an idiot. Props to the balls on a lot of these Ukrainians. That response back to the Russian warship was perfect."
- SHAFT - "Awful take by Clyde. All the respect in the world for zelensky and the Ukrainian people for defending that country. There’s a chance they repel russia. A small chance, but it isn’t out of them realm of possibility."
What a bunch of Unamerican milksops.

I’ll defend my statement and position. The Ukrainians have fought admirably and have exposed many deficiencies with the Russian military. The Russians anticipated a quick steamroll victory. That didn’t happen. However, Ukraine cannot win this war short of direct military intervention from someone like the U.S. By direct military intervention I don’t mean sending them money, bombs, bullets, and band-aides. I mean our military fighting the Russians. We don’t want that. Ukraine needs to sue for peace, cede a small amount of territory, and stay out of NATO where they don’t belong.
We were wrong to encourage this fight…wait did you just make a criticism against President Biden? I guess you can do that now that he is not running. VP Harris seemed like she was on board too.
Clarify your position when you say that you’re all in. Does that mean to ensure Ukraine’s victory you are willing to be drafted into military service in a war against Russia? Does that mean you support the status quo that we keep sending Ukraine billions in aid knowing that it won’t change the outcome of this war? What does “all in” mean to you?
