The judge was very kind to give Trump time to compose his stump speech for the trial. He'll definitely spend some serious thought on how best to attack all involved while limping around on the golf course.
I love the free airtime from all the Trump hating "journalists". Trump is the master of unpaid media. Thank you, TDS sufferers, for getting him re-elected.

While in New York for his sexual assault defamation trial, Trump waved to a cameras. A doctor on the platform formerly known as Twitter says it looks like Trump could have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. With all the traveling he does for campaigning, he probably got bit by a tick. It surely has nothing to do with the multiple sexual assault allegations against him.

I'm okay. Thanks for asking. But I'm worried about Trump, who was seen exchanging a whispered conversation with his ill attorney. Why would anybody engage in close conversations like that with someone he knows carries a COVID risk? Closing arguments from Carroll's attorney..
Trump believes that “He gets to lie. He gets to threaten. He gets to ignore a jury verdict. He gets to defy the law and the rules of this courtroom," Crowley said. "You saw how he behaved through this trial. Rules don’t apply to Donald Trump."
“Ladies and gentleman, this isn’t a campaign rally. It’s not a press event. It’s a court of law and Miss Carroll’s life,” Crowley said. “Donald Trump sexually assaulted her. He defamed her. He is not the victim.”
More... (https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-trial-e-jean-carroll-01-26-24/index.html)
The above closing arguments were made after Trump returned to the courtroom after storming out during an earlier part of the closing arguments. Trump's loud talking during proceedings, entering and exiting during the trial, and generally disrespectful behavior are not likely to win him any approval from the jury.

Here is what the first jury heard when they found that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll..
Carroll testified that it happened.
Two people she told at the time of the assault testified about what she told them.
What Carroll testified and what the witnesses testified matched the Access Hollywood tape shown to the jury. Carroll did not know about the Access Hollywood tape at the time when Carroll described the incident to the two witnesses.
In the Access Hollywood tape, Trump confessed to doing with his hands what Carroll told the witnesses he had done to her years earlier.
Despite having ample opportunity to do so, Trump never denied any of it in the trial. His denials were made out of court, which the jury was supposed to ignore in reaching their decision. The jury's decision was based on testimony given in court, under oath, and subject to cross examination.
In my opinion, voters in the general election will not elect Trump because of the two jury verdicts in the Carroll cases. Republicans are making a yuge mistake in rushing to nominate him.

Former President Donald Trump joked on Wednesday afternoon about a recent photo showing red spots on his hand, telling a Fox News correspondent, "Maybe it's AI."
Trump sounded confused when Mark Meredith asked, "How's your hands?" The former president held up both to show that they were clean. Trump fielded questions from the press after meeting with Teamsters union leaders and members in Washington, D.C.

“Do you plan to try to use campaign funds or PAC money to try to pay some of the penalties in the New York defamation and fraud cases?” a reporter asked.
After Trump said he didn’t understand, the reporter said again, “Are you thinking of potentially trying to use campaign money to pay some of those penalties you incurred?”
“What penalties?” Trump replied, seemingly unaware that a New York jury didn’t order him to pay writer E. Jean Carroll $83.3 million just last week.
“In the New York fraud case and the defamation case,” the reporter said again.
Trump’s response was especially detached from reality.
“I didn’t do anything wrong. I mean, that’s been proven as far as I’m concerned. And actually, we won in the Court of Appeals. You probably saw that. That case has been largely won in the Court of Appeals,” he insisted, though nothing like that has happened in either case.

Considering Trump has been fundraising and paying his family for campaigning and his legal bills for roughly a year and a half, I fully expect the FEC to get involved and potentially the DOJ regarding misappropriation of campaign funds. Remember Trump has been arguing for sometime he deserves immunity as a political candidate, goes in hand that funds he raises for his candidacy would be subject to full FEC filing disclosures, limits, and federal law.

The verdict in Donald Trump’s $370m fraud trial will be coming later than expected, with a decision expected in early to mid-February, a New York court spokesperson said on Thursday.
The New York judge Arthur Engoron had initially said he would aim to deliver a verdict on the potential $370m fine by 31 January. “I will do my best” to meet the deadline, he said on 11 January after the trial’s closing arguments.

Possibly coincidentally to the delay of the fraud trial ruling..
Allen H. Weisselberg, a longtime lieutenant to Donald J. Trump, is negotiating a deal with Manhattan prosecutors that would require him to plead guilty to perjury, people with knowledge of the matter said.
As part of the potential agreement with the Manhattan district attorney's office, Mr. Weisselberg would have to admit that he lied on the witness stand in Mr. Trump's recent civil fraud trial, the people said.

They confirmed what anyone who has read the Constitution understands: there is no criminal immunity imparted to the President, much less for a former President who is demented enough to think trying to stage a coup was part of his duties of office. Good start to the day.
“For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant. But any executive immunity that may have protected him while he served as President no longer protects him against this prosecution,” the court wrote.

That's nice that you think that, but bear in mind the Supreme Court only takes a fraction of cases which parties file requests for reconsideration on. So while you may think that court orders have no force and effect because the Supreme Court exists, I'll remind you that you're wrong and a court order is still a legal judgment until/unless it is overturned.

I listened to the whole thing. What most surprised me is that a majority seemed to believe the determination should be made after the election, as Trump argued, and not before, based on the reasoning that the Constitution specifically gives Congress the power by a 2/3rds vote to forgive an insurrectionist and make him eligible, and you would need to wait until the moment of counting votes on January 6 to see if Congress exercises that power. Only then could you know if the candidate is eligible at the time the votes are counted. I think that is poor -- not to mention highly impractical -- reasoning, but they seemed to buy it.
Remember that it will be the newly elected and newly sworn Congress that will count the votes on January 6, or whatever day it falls on in 2025.
I have to believe the court will not ultimately decide that way.
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

The Colorado Supreme Court concluded that he engaged in insurrection. The more important point is that Congress, by a majority vote, might agree on January 6, 2025.
I did not get the impression that any of the judges believed a criminal conviction was necessary to disqualify a candidate. The drafters of the 14th Amendment did not intend for a criminal conviction to be necessary to disqualify a candidate. That is clear.

I heard it and reread it before I posted. I believe Kavanaugh concluded that criminal prosecution is not necessary. And I will also point out that the exchange with Kavanaugh ended on a funny note about Trump's immunity claim. Trump, on one hand, claims he is immune from criminal prosecution for the insurrection and, on the other hand, claims he is eligible to run because he has not been convicted of insurrection.

A New York judge denied former President Donald Trump's request to dismiss criminal charges related to a "hush money" payment and said his trial would proceed as scheduled on March 25, delivering a blow to Trump's efforts to delay what would be the first trial of any former president in U.S. history.
More... (https://news.yahoo.com/trump-expected-appear-hearing-manhattan-110006034.html)
What is Trump accused of?
Trump is accused of participating in a scheme to falsify records to hide a series of payments to his former "fixer" and lawyer Michael Cohen. The payments, prosecutors allege, were reimbursements for a hush money payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. She has alleged she had an affair with Trump, and agreed to keep quiet in exchange for $130,000 shortly before the 2016 election.
Trump's lawyers have denied the payments to Cohen were part of a cover-up, saying Trump was reimbursing the former lawyer for legal expenses.

Here is the summary from the first page of the decision released today in the New York fraud trial -- not the criminal fraud trial about the porn star hush money, but the civil trial about financial statements..
Donald Trump and entities he controls own many valuable properties, including office buildings, hotels, and golf courses. Acquiring and developing such properties required huge amounts of cash. Accordingly, the entities borrowed from banks and other lenders. The lenders required personal guarantees from Donald Trump, which were based on statements of financial condition compiled by accountants that Donald Trump engaged. The accountants created these "compilations" based on data submitted by the Trump entities. In order to borrow more and at lower rates, defendants submitted blatantly false financial data to the accountants, resulting in fraudulent financial statements. When confronted at trial with the statements, defendants' fact and expert witnesses simply denied reality, and defendants failed to accept responsibility or to impose internal controls to prevent future recurrences. As detailed herein, this Court now finds defendants liable, continues the appointment of an Independent Monitor, orders the installation of an Independent Director of Compliance, and limits defendants' right to conduct business in New York for a few years.

President Trump admitted to misusing nonprofit funds and was ordered to personally pay $2 million to an array of charities as part of a settlement to a lawsuit that accused his now-defunct foundation of illegally helping his 2016 campaign for the White House.

That’s really tricky, the deed for Mar-a-lago is fucking awful for anyone who owns it, and really limits its value.

What folks tend to do in over thinking an ability to appeal is the court considering the ruling has to find error. The citations, careful consideration of the testimony, all flawless. The final key to the way I promote is bravado. I play to people's fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That's why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. Oh, and you Leftst, terrorist supporting pieces of shit, consider this, even without strike, Trump is never going to pay 300+ million in fines. All you have done, assuming this verdict and possibly law are not overturned is make sure that pretty much all real-estate development leaves New York. Who would take the risk of developing there with such a farcical sword of Damocles hanging over their head? The state doesn't like you completely consensual agreement with a bank and despite living up to the agreement by both sides, the state will prosecute you. So much for those good construction jobs and all the support. Trump moves out of the state, others move out, there is already a metric shit ton of empty buildings in NYC, there will be a lot more.
All because of a politically motivated sham of a prosecution. San Francisco and elsewhere in Commiefornia, Chicago, now New York, you would think maybe you would have learned with Detroit but no, you haven't. How many more people have to suffer because of your shit policies?

The Trump case was not a matter of optimistic valuation or good salesmanship. It was the intentional, knowing, gross and repeated misrepresentation of facts to secure a financial benefit. They assured lenders that their valuations were based on outside appraisals. That was not the case. For some properties, they listed an appraiser who had nothing to do with valuing the property. Imagine how surprised he was when called to testify! For others, the values were just numbers derived internally, using deceptive methods. Other properties listed on the financial statements had not yet been built. Values were assigned to licensing deals that had not been signed. Even cash balances were overstated by many multiples. How hard is it to value cash?
Trump claims to have $400 million in the bank and a net worth of $10 billion. If so, he should have no trouble posting his bond for this appeal. Let's wait and see if he overvalued his current bank balance.

Like any other transaction, the seller sets a price, the buyer either agrees to the price or offers a counteroffer. It's not the duty of the seller to counteroffer their own price.

NEW YORK (AP) — Wayne LaPierre misspent millions of dollars of the National Rifle Association’s money during his decades leading the powerful gun lobby, using the funds to pay for an extravagant lifestyle that included exotic getaways and trips on private planes and superyachts, a New York jury determined Friday.
The jury ordered LaPierre, 74, to repay the group he led for three decades $4,351,231. It also ordered the NRA’s retired finance chief, Wilson Phillips, to pay back the group $2 million. Jurors also found that the NRA omitted or misrepresented information in its tax filings and violated New York law by failing to adopt a whistleblower policy.

You're jumping to the end of the bankruptcy case, and you may be correct about what would be the outcome at that time. However, it would take months to get to that point. During that delay, there would be an automatic "stay" of all court proceedings, including a stay of Trump's obligation to put up money to file an appeal. By the time it is over, Trump would hope to be President. While he is President, he would argue that he is immune to any court proceeding against him. The main concern would be how declaring bankruptcy would affect public perception of him and, thus, his chances of becoming President.
Would Trump be justified in declaring bankruptcy? If paying half a billion dollars relating to the sexual assault, defamation and financial fraud judgments would imperil Trump's or his business' ability to pay debts that were owed before Trump's recent court losses, then that could be a valid reason for declaring bankruptcy and letting a court decide which creditors should be paid first.
Multiple Trump businesses have filed bankruptcy in the past, in order to pressure creditors to accept less than the full amount owed. Trump has never filed a personal bankruptcy. Here is a fair summary of Trump's history with bankruptcy laws.. https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2015/sep/21/carly-fiorina/trumps-four-bankruptcies/

You don't, in any way, understand any of this. At no point is a student loan or court ordered judgement included anywhere in any decision making of any kind regarding bankruptcy from the court's perspective. You can file all you want and they will do a review and toss it. And in the mean time, there is no impediment to the timeframe of court collection. Period.
What will happen quickly is this farsical trial and judgement by a clearly biased (as shown in video and statements made before, during and after the trial) judge will be tossed on appeal or greatly reduced. If you Google it, you will conclude that a bankruptcy filing automatically stops the collection of all debts, including those that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, until the court makes a ruling.. https://www.google.com/search?q=Does+the+bankruptcy+automatic+stay+apply+ to+nondischargeable+debts. Child support is one of the very few exceptions to that rule.
That makes sense. Suppose a debtor who already owes money to a bank is found by a jury to owe money to the debtor's sexual assault victim. It would be unfair to the bank if all of the debtor's money goes to the sexual assault victim. If the debtor does not have enough money to pay both the bank and the sexual assault victim on time, then a bankruptcy proceeding would allow a judge to be sure that the debtor's assets are paid in the proper order. After the bankruptcy proceeding, the debtor would still owe the sexual assault victim, but the debtor would have less money left for the sexual assault victim if the court determined that the bank should be paid first.
Trump's purpose in making a filing would be to delay having to pay any money for as long as possible. If the is elected President before having to pay, then the rules will change in his favor. To be clear, I do not believe Trump will try to file bankruptcy, because it would reduce his chances of being elected.

Get ready for Stormy Daniels! That trial starts March 25. In the below quoted article from last year, Trump denied having an affair with Daniels. In the very unlikely event that Trump testifies, it will be interesting to see how he explains his past false statements and how that affects his credibility when he testifies that he did not falsify his financial statements to cover up the affair.
Trump denies the affair with Daniels, whom he publicly refers to as “horseface,” and has rejected multiple allegations related to the scheme, which legal experts suggest could lead to charges of falsifying business records against the former president.
“I did absolutely nothing wrong, I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I have wanted to have an affair with Stormy Daniels,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Trump asked the judge in his upcoming criminal trial to deny the prosecution the right to call Stormy Daniels to testify. The case is, in part, about whether or not Trump misstated his financial statements to hide hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. Trump denies having an affair with Daniels. Don't you think her testimony about whether or not they had an affair is relevant to show whether or not Trump had a reason to pay her $130,000 and then disguise the payment as something else?
Trump attorney Todd Blanche moved to block testimony from Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-fixer, and two women he paid to stay quiet about affairs they alleged with Trump: Porn actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
Trump’s reimbursements to Cohen are the thrust of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s (D) prosecution of Trump, who denies the affairs and pleaded not guilty to his 34 charges of falsifying business records.
The 47-page motion attacks the witnesses’ credibility at length, casting Cohen as a “liar” and suggesting Daniels would offer “false” and “salacious” testimony.

Shifting focus back to the New York civil financial fraud trial that Trump recently lost..
Donald Trump's lawyers told a New York appellate court Wednesday that he's prepared to post a $100 million bond to halt collection of his staggering civil fraud penalty, arguing that provisions of the verdict make it impossible for the former president to secure a bond for the full amount.
Trump's lawyers floated the offer in court papers asking the state's mid-level appeals court for an order preventing New York Attorney General Letitia James' office from enforcing the $454 million judgment while his appeal plays out. Trump would have to post the full amount to pause collection automatically.
The appeals court heard arguments at an emergency hearing Wednesday, and a judge could issue a decision by the end of the day.
More... (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-fraud-appeal-bond-new-york/)
If the appellate court declines to allow Trump to post a bond of less than the judgment amount, then I predict Trump will file for bankruptcy. In many states, legislatures have placed a cap on the amount of an appeals bond, to avoid extreme situations like this. New York's legislature has not.

There's an update from the same source..
A New York appellate judge on Wednesday refused to halt collection of Donald Trump's $454 million civil fraud penalty while he appeals, rejecting the former president's request that he be allowed to post a bond covering just a fraction of what he owes.
Judge Anil Singh of the state's mid-level appeals court ruled that Trump must post a bond covering the full amount in order to stop enforcement of the judgment. Singh did grant some of Trump's requests, including pausing a three-year ban on him seeking loans from New York banks — which could help him secure the necessary bond.

I inherited that logic from Democrats, since Trump was elected in 2017, it's been the standard.
This is the standard set by your people, it's how YOU want things to be. I certainly know you have a hell of a lot more to lose than I.
Worked with Russian banks, married a Red Sparrow...You better hope some journalist doesn't get a wild hair up their ass.

What’s funny is, you actually think HSBC is a Russian bank. Shows how little you know.
But go ahead and move those goalpost, from working in/with Russian banks, to working for a bank that has an office in Russia.
But if you want, keep thinking that it is, I’m sure if you keep staring in the mirror while repeating it, it’s bound to become true!

He probably doesn't believe your stories that you work for a bank, given how you didn't know the difference between debt and deficit.
