So this week in the office, our break room no longer has disposable paper coffee cups.

A little sign appeared this morning next to the coffee machine that says (paraphrasing): You asked, we listened. As part of our environmental sustainability initiative we will no longer store paper cups. Employees are welcome to bring their own coffee mug into the workplace. This reduces our paper waste by XXX annually.

I have a few problems with this:

1) Who the fuck asked for this besides maybe a few ignorant bastard GenZ fucks here on a summer internship? Don’t lie and make it sound like this was our idea.

2) I don’t think they thought this whole saving the environment through. Now we have to clean our cups. That requires water waste, energy to heat hot water, dish soap, and paper towels supplied to dry them. In addition, now employees are spending valuable time washing their cups instead of working.

3) This isn’t about saving the whales or shit like that. They are just using that as an excuse to cut costs of supplying paper cups and be cheap bastards.

Well fuck that and fuck them. Tonight on my way home I’m going to stop by Costco and purchase a mega pack of disposable cups to keep in my work locker. Hell I may just get the styrofoam ones out of spite.

I agree on the dish washing, drying, etc., time wasted at work, and I wouldn't personally. I'd bring in my coffee cup, use it, rinse it, and take it home dirty so I could run it through my own dishwasher.

You seem a little upset about this, did you accidentally grab a pair of too small underwear or something? It's a coffee cup. You can figure out a way past this obstacle, right?

You've already spent more time on this rant than it would've taken you to wash your cup by hand.

You are right. I’m a full blown addict to food and shelter for myself & my family. I can’t afford to put my employment in jeopardy over a small grievance.

I did get paper coffee cups and brought them to work this morning for my own personal consumption. Problem solved.

I get your complaint. It's your proposed responses to it that I took issue with. Your comparison of your complaint to my Fuck Donald Trump thread is not on target, because all I'm doing is saying fuck that guy. I'm proposing no solution, no additional steps to take. Just fuck that guy. You're taking it a step further by saying you're going to take anti-eco / anti-green action and buy styrofoam cups, etc.. It's reactionary and punitive, if taken literally. But by all means, carry on.

The other is a journal of what mental illness looks like when someone has obsessive compulsive disorder and should be under doctor's care and heavily medicated.

I don't normally find entertainment in someone else's mental disorders.. but I do with yours.

So just making a repetitive complaint with no action taken is somehow more virtuous/preferable to you to having agency in solving the problem?

That’s fair that my initial reaction was rather punitive & I fully admit it was a rant. I ended up buying just the regular paper cups much like the ones they had before if that matters. Anyways, I’ve moved on and no longer have to remember to bring a coffee cup or spend time washing one like a peasant. The company can carry on with their BS policy. Problem solved.
