Individual rights, and protecting them, are the only thing stopping such massacres to occur... but the uneducated, ignorant, gullible majority in the US somehow are fooled into thinking it's not.
I feel bad for the upcoming 2 generations... they think they know... but all they're doing is repeating history... what the past 4 generations (1900-1990) fought to stop... now their children will get to do it all over again. The masses, so easily played and kept stupid by those in power.
