Isn't that just a gear issue? I'm not a mechanical engineer by any means, but couldn't that be increased through a better designed gear system?
If you watch a wind turbine spin, it does it pretty slowly but it turns larger gears.
What I'm envisioning is something like this.. how many people would it take to turn a wind turbine propeller 1 rotation like the wind does and work the math/design from there.
As for 2.4m people working 8 hours a day... aren't we trying to provide more jobs? I mean.. maybe do 4.8m people at 4 hours a day and work out how pay is done.
Side benefit? We solve the Nations obesity problem?

On a GE 1.5 MW turbine the prop weighs roughly 36 tons, the gearbox weighs 56 tons. In theory an external gearbox could be engineered but I'm not sure a human could peddle fast enough to turn the entire gear train. In all likelihood the external gearbox would cost more than the wind turbine.
It would be more cost efficient to pay people to just dig holes and fill them back in.
Eventually, and not far off, we will have to come to the realization that we have advanced technology to the point at which there is no labor. Conservatives are going to have an exceptionally difficult time with it.

Says a lot, that on a topic like this, you have to throw a comment about "conservatives"? What the fuck about the idea is a "conservative" one?
Ideologues like yourself, that's all you see the world as - left or right.
Problem is, it's not a "conservative problem" (fyi - I'm a liberal - the real kind, not the fucked up bastardized version current US Lefties like to use) - it's a human problem. If you want machines to run everything for you fine, me personally? I don't.
