I'm a gigantic fan of this. Every state should do this.
They go pretty hardcore on them here. On Halloween, all the Sex Offenders that are currently on probation or parole are brought in for a mandatory check in that lasts like 12 hours or something.

So... it would take 2,737,500 people working 8 hour shifts to produce the same amount of energy as 1, 2 MW wind turbine running at 25%.

A commercial average-sized wind turbine (2 megawatts) costs about $2.6–4 million.

You could buy between 8 - 12 wind turbines for the cost of 1 days labor................
Isn't that just a gear issue? I'm not a mechanical engineer by any means, but couldn't that be increased through a better designed gear system?

If you watch a wind turbine spin, it does it pretty slowly but it turns larger gears.

What I'm envisioning is something like this.. how many people would it take to turn a wind turbine propeller 1 rotation like the wind does and work the math/design from there.

As for 2.4m people working 8 hours a day... aren't we trying to provide more jobs? I mean.. maybe do 4.8m people at 4 hours a day and work out how pay is done.

Side benefit? We solve the Nations obesity problem?

On a GE 1.5 MW turbine the prop weighs roughly 36 tons, the gearbox weighs 56 tons. In theory an external gearbox could be engineered but I'm not sure a human could peddle fast enough to turn the entire gear train. In all likelihood the external gearbox would cost more than the wind turbine.

It would be more cost efficient to pay people to just dig holes and fill them back in.

Eventually, and not far off, we will have to come to the realization that we have advanced technology to the point at which there is no labor. Conservatives are going to have an exceptionally difficult time with it.

When the day comes where machines will provide everything we need to live, I'll be all for it.

But you just sit back and let others care for you because you decided you were too tired to work anymore.

    We got you.

Not sure why you get so upset that I lived a simple life and because of that conservatism I was able to retire at 52.

    Enjoy your boomer grindset.

I'm not upset in the least.

I just laugh at people like you whom feel society owes them something because they worked all the way to age 52.

If everyone had your victimization mindset, social security would have been bankrupt decades ago.

Where did I say society owed me anything?

    Where have I played victim?

Kind of sounds like you're the one playing victim.

Poor PB, not being able to exploit labor.

Where did I say I was having trouble with labor?

I would never hire someone like you.

Sorry you were "exploited" all your life... but let's be honest, you didn't have much of a choice.

Says a lot, that on a topic like this, you have to throw a comment about "conservatives"? What the fuck about the idea is a "conservative" one?

Ideologues like yourself, that's all you see the world as - left or right.

Problem is, it's not a "conservative problem" (fyi - I'm a liberal - the real kind, not the fucked up bastardized version current US Lefties like to use) - it's a human problem. If you want machines to run everything for you fine, me personally? I don't.

Did I say it was just a conservative problem?

    Nope.
