We just had open enrollment for benefits at work. This go around they offered an HMO, an OAP and an HSA. Due to the regulations through ACA, this is the last time they will be offering the HMO. Why? According to them, the cost to offer this plan has increased significantly. This makes me sad. The HMO through work is quite good. It is better insurance than what I was getting from my last job in Vermont and it was affordable for me. Yes I know my employer was carrying the bulk of the insurance cost.
The rep from Cigna and our HR Department were trying to direct employees towards the HSA option. Sure an HSA takes the least out of your paycheck, the company was going to put a one time balance of $500 bucks in the account. After that? You are are your own. The deductible is significantly higher than the HMO. That insurance is fine if you are only going to see the Dr once in a while.
