No, a 30 day trial account can't buy a fest ticket till it has a billed month of service. I am pretty sure of this. As I tried to attend a DR fest and it billed me the 15 for the free account, and the fest ticket cost.
Maybe you stumbled upon the true reason for the way they are selling tickets.
They might be predicting x amount of people paying the extra $15 bucks for a shot at the ticket. Feeling they could milk a couple extra grand of revenue a month, maybe more.
I doubt it would be that way, but would be funny if this is their reasoning.

But is that "fair"? I never knew the word "fair" was so flexible, it should do porno.
Actually, I would think this is a lot more fair then a number of things done in game lately.

True, not likely though. They would generally make almost as much off an upgrade. if you do think about it tho, 67 accounts created to get a ticket would be an extra 1k. Obviously not all could get a ticket, so it's likely they would stay open for the month, and the next batch goes on sale about a month after, so it is 2 months for the second, 3 for the third, AND then 5 months till the ticket for the 3rd can be used. so 5 months of 15$ for even 67 accounts is nothing to sneeze at. basically an extra 5k.

It's like some bizarre experiment in maximizing badwill, but whatever works for them, I guess. In another game I play, they planned to upgrade their forums. Sounds good, because their forums were almost as much of a disaster as play.net's. Scheduled for the 19th de Avril to the 25th, and any posts made in that period would not be migrated to the new forums. Okay, that seems... exorbitantly long, but upgrade still rox. Then it was extended to the 29th. Then the 29th came and went with no comment or upgrade whatsoever. Still waiting. Seriously, Anticor could personally perform this operation in a day. If you specifically decided to declare and demonstrate incompetence and general idioicy, you could not do better than that case.
Or so I thought. The timing would make me suspicious if I were not such a well-adjusted and normal person, but obviously Simutronics still holds the crown for most clearly and intentionally ill-run gaming company.
So I think what we ALL want to know is whether the person who bought crb's services made a good investment.Dignity and an empty sack, mademoiselle (said in a non-patronizing way), dignity and an empty sack. (Also this refers to a jpeg [jpg?] that is no longer included in crb's post.) (Also I read a really interesting but mostly alarmingly in-depth analysis of Federation racism re: Ferengi if you are interested in further discussion on this subject.)
So I think what we ALL want to know is whether the person who bought crb's services made a good investment.

This is an insane plan. I wonder if anyone got a ticket on a second account. They need to dump all the tickets for the remaining runs in 1 or 2 batches. When the frustration starts to outweigh the fun, you start to rethink things.

They won't change at this point. There would still be outrage. Even changing it to 2 sets of 50 tickets for the remaining runs wont really change anything. And the worst part is, the basic days will be 100 times worse. Competing against 300 or so other accounts is one thing, against 1000 is a whole other story. I doubt Simu's T-86 can handle it.

LOL.
Limited tickets done right. 100 all at once, premium first shot at all 100 for 5 minutes. Hell, I would have been happy with 90 tickets, and 10 done in envelopes. This is just a stupid way to release them. With 100 all at once, yes it sells out in a min or two, but not 3-5 seconds. There is no way you can say tomorrow will not be the same or worse.

Generally, it doesn't matter.
Most of them can easily buy the major slot they want, cause people will sell. Not to mention if it's the glove bow they want, they can just offer someone 50-75 mill silver to use their silver and bid on it for them.
The only thing they couldn't get is the coraesine, or the char alters/items. Like animal grooming, sonics, custom logon/off, custom swears, etc etc. Everything else can and will be sold and swapped.

Just as a tip - if you think your internet connection might be slow and you have a good phone - I got my ticket using my phone - I was at the Philly airport and wasn't even on 4G. I was on the Sign Up screen - hit signup - got closed message - hit back - did this a few times then got the select character screen - clicked the bottom - done. I did the same thing at noon and got the select character 1st batch too - but tried to select my main character which wasn't a great idea - and it was closed by that time. Droid Bionic / Verizon.
Hope that helps.

pretty much this is going to be another instance where people that make a living raping others as "merchants" here will continue to do so. If i had a shitty job and no family, i would activate multiple accounts, pay several kids or just enlist friends to log on and help get tickets. In the end, said whore can then sell his ticket, slot, or items upgraded for a nice profit. The only thing that suffers is the integrity of GS as a game. The aftermarket will boom fine though.
I do not see a way SIMU, even if they wanted to, could prevent or level that field so the majority of customers can get in. I expect we will see a few more 100m coin robes or knick knacks after this.

If you're pressing F5, you're doing it wrong.
Seriously.
If you're pressing the F5 key, you're doing it wrong!
What you should be doing:
1) Start here: https://www.play.net/gs4/quests/list_slots.asp?questID=227
2) Click on details for the group you want. Next group is group 3. This takes you here, but as it's a javascript link, you can't bookmark it directly. Start at step 1. https://www.play.net/gs4/quests/group_details.asp
3) Put your mouse over the 'Sign up Now button', and a finger on the backspace key (the shortcut for 'back' in most browsers).
4) Click sign-up now.
5) Pause one second to read the screen.
6a) If page says "It's too early to sign up for this event", hit the backspace key and click again. If you haven't moved your mouse (and you shouldn't), you're still on the "sing up now button).
6b) If the page lists the characters,, scroll down and click... uh, whatever it was. Purchase ticket now? For my browser both the 'sign up now' and 'purchase ticket now' buttons are centered, so I used scroll wheel to go down and click purchase.
If you're pressing F5, you're probably on the webpage in step2, and waiting for that page to update with open... or number of tickets already sold. Based on Black Swan and yesterday's event, the actual purchase page goes live first. I've never seen the page in step2 actually say it's open. The only buttons you should be pressing are left-click and backspace, and when the character select screen pops up, scroll down and click again.
Step 5 (pause 1 second) is kinda important. First, you don't want to get click happy and get the screen, and muscle reflex hits the backspace key and takes you back a page. Second, I don't know what denial of service / anti-bot / screen sessions Simu may have on their load balancers and firewalls, and going faster than that may lock yourself out.
Good luck, all!

Are you hitting backspace from the page that says "It's too early to signup for this event" (step 6a), or hitting backspace from the page in step2?
You should be hitting backspace from the former, not the latter. I get that message, or a message stating if I have to resubmit, only from the page in step2 (the wrong page).

I used this guy's method at 8 last night (in Chrome) and it worked for me. Make sure you're going back to a cached copy of the "step 2" page, not trying to reload it. You don't need the page to say "Available" to get your tickets, you just need to be able to submit the Java request, which you can do from a page that's stale.

I tried this this last time, still nada. if you happen to hit backspace at the wrong time, your screwed.
To be honest, I'm working split shifts for the next month+ so I sleep at noon and 8 pm. EST, so I am done trying to get a ticket, fuck it. Not worth loss of sleep just to see sold out all the time.
And for those saying there will be 8 more shots, yes. Each of those will sell out in 5 seconds or less. So it's not really like 8 more shots.

This kind of shit really does zap my motivation to keep playing to be honest. I have been excited about this event for months and now it seems like it is impossible to get a ticket. I sat there hitting reload every second at 11:59, saw the signup button clicked it, got internal server error, then on reload they were all gone. So it looks like there isnt really a reliable way to get these tickets. Everyone is QQing i know, and saying i will quit etc. But I am seriously considering it. Partly to send a message to simu, partly because I am just tired of feeling like a handful of players get all the cool shit in this game and there will never be anything I can do about it (short of spending hordes of $$).

Lol I was wondering who that was. And yes that did happen, I also have some kind of Gwen (I also have Auburnhairpick from a long time ago). Also you were the 2nd quickest sign up, you must have been burning up your mouse.
Yeah I started at about 11:57--just using the exact steps that guy posted above. Back/click, back/click. Using Chrome--you could actually hit the click before the page showed and it would still register as a hit on the "Sign Up" button. I'm at work and I think we have some type of Verizon business network connection that registers on speedtest sites as pretty crazy fast. I think it's all about your network speed.

>When I hit the backspace key, I get a message that the document is no longer available (Firefox) or that the page has expired (IE).
Are you hitting backspace from the page that says "It's too early to signup for this event" (step 6a), or hitting backspace from the page in step2?
You should be hitting backspace from the former, not the latter. I get that message, or a message stating if I have to resubmit, only from the page in step2 (the wrong page).
I tested this in Chrome and Firefox. I try not to use IE. It's possible I have a security setting disabled that resubmit on the 'backspace' key.
I had the same problem, and I hit backspace on the "It's too early to sign up for this event" page.
I don't see any security settings in Firefox that would make it not happen either.

What's a better way that doesn't totally favour multi-accounters?
Here's how I would do.
Since there are 3 runs. I would have 3 release times.
8 PM EST, 10 PM EST and 12 AM/MIDNIGHT EST
Run #1, Run #2, Run #3
100 tickets for purchase, you can only buy access to one run per account.
Premium accounts would get a 10 minute head start if there needs to be a premium/basic separation.
If you want to stop a person from buying multiple tickets to the same event you have to change the entire account structure. So instead of people having multiple accounts, you would receive 1 account, with multiple logins. You could still log in as many characters as you want, but you no longer have multiple accounts with Simutronics. It's one account, multiple logins.
People will always complain, but at least this structure would give them 1 opportunity to complain, instead of twice a day.
I thought it would be obvious that I wasn't being serious about releasing them at random times by first saying "They should take it a step further" after stating how gay the current system is.

I totally understand this rage though. I can see two groups--like a 75 and a 25 and it goes so lightning fast that you know the max tickets someone could get is 2 if they were really lucky both nights. This 4-split, while I'm sure being done so people don't bitch about being unavailable at 1 onsale time, is ridiculous. People are used to onsale times--from concerts, etc.--with enough lead time and motivation anyone can make themselves available at a specific time to try and get a ticket and if you can't you can't. But people now having the idea that they were shut out cause V got 4+ tickets is probably leading to some insane rage.
Here's how I would do.

I still say the obvious answer is more tickets. Even 50 more per run would not create the monty haul that Wyrom fears. Face it, they released 1000+ items in the first Draughtman's run, and he's worried about going over 303? And to further help, bump up the price to $100.

But this is reality in every other big ticketing situation. There are always onsale times. I can remember getting permission to take a half day of school to sit in line at a video store cause they had a Ticketmaster machine and I wanted Pearl Jam tickets. If I have a two month warning and a vacation day, I can at least have a shot at any ticket I want. That's how it works for everything.

You do it the same way ticketmaster does it. You announce a time and you release all the tickets for that particular run. First come first serve, when they're gone they're gone.

I got mine last night. This is how I did it. I cycled through the three website sign-up pages as fast as I could one minute before the time. Get to the page where you click the event date, that bring you up to the sign-up page, click sign up. If you can't sign up it takes you to a page with a couple links, the top one takes you back to the date page. Just do the cycle again and again as fast as you can. If you practice it before hand you can move pretty fast. I don't know if I was a squirrel finding a nut or if it work? however, at the first release the refresh button did nothing for me. Yesterday was my birthday so maybe that had something to do with it. I had just assumed I'd never get a ticket because I'm usually slow at typing. So i just started do that and was talking to the wife and watching tv and boom. It's funny cause when I got to the which character page it felt like I was looking at it forever cause I was shocked I got to it. Anyhow good luck.

Did the GMs say on the officials that they're going to block characters transfers?
From play.net's events page:
Tickets bought for characters may be assigned to any character on the account. This is something that has always been the case and requires no changes by customer service. However, if the named character is transferred to another account, the ticket travels with that character. That means if the character is transferred, the ticket may need to be reassigned to another character on the account, and that is subject to the $5.00 service charge.

This is the response I got from feedback in regards to the ticket release.
This is a topic which has bee addressed at virtually every level in the forums already. There are two points that need to be corrected.
First, It has been done this way in the past, repeatedly. As noted on the message boards, people discussed the Ebon Gate auction tickets, but in addition to that, the Elanthian Artisans Faire in 2003 was done in exactly this manner, the first Artisans Faire had NO premium advance sales, and DragonRealms has had multiple events done in this manner. It has been used in the past just as it is being used here, to provide the opportunity for every person to attend.
Second, as noted in the forums, while the initial decision was made by an individual GameMaster, that decision was approved by the Gemstone IV Product Manager, and the head for all text games. This was not someone reversing "14 years" of anything. What you have been talking about is nothing that has ever existed in the way you describe.
Sincerely,
Two things about this.. I have no idea what was done at the Artisan faire. And obviously if they didn't have premium presales, they really did violate their own premium benefits, so basically all their benefits are a "fuck you we can take them away whenever we want" type thing.
Second, what the fuck does DR have to do with Gemstone ticket sales and premium benefits?

Not exactly sure how using DR as an example is an answer. Also like I said, I didn't attend the faire, wasn't playing that year, so no idea what was done. But I doubt they did 25 ticket batches. As for no premium pre-sales, I think others would remember this if it was true. Of course you can't look on the boards, because they removed all those old posts when they "updated".
Also, just because someone fucked up in the past doesn't mean they should fuck up again.

What they need to do is take the last 200 tickets, add 200 more, break them up into 2 or 3 groups so that you have to pick one, splitting up the groups a little and dump them all tomorrow. If we have to wait until July or August to buy tickets for the next runs, they'll lose more income from customer loss then they make from the event itself. Not everyone can make the time, and maybe they'll have to take a break from work, or walk out a meeting or something, but it's better than having to do that 12 times to watch tickets disappear before you even see them.
I don't think anyone really knows how many he's getting--I just threw that out there. It would just require multiple accounts and some code.

Virilneus,
Are you willing to post your method, assuming it's a manual method of a person with mouse and keyboard?
(I'm not dissing any other options, such as wget, lynx, etc)... but for a manual method, I don't see it getting much faster without complicated explanations, digging into the jsp (or was it asp?) and POSTing.. well, that's complicated. I got my ticket the way I posted, which I figured out after BSC.
To the other poster, I have to agree that if bots are being used, they're pretty shitty if they're getting beat by people... I even scrolled down to verify my character name, as I'm going for impure coreasine, and wasn't certain if the usual "sign up anyone, bring anyone" was certain (It was confirmed later).

It isn't much faster, as I said, and again in the PM to you. Not fast enough to make a difference.

Wow...feedback from customer service? Your letter must have been something else because that response has some serious tone. The first Artisan Faire they had to almost pay people to go. It was an RP only thing with I think one or two shops. I didn't even go and I go to almost everything. The second Artisan Faire was different, so that is the one that was in 2002. That one was merchant oriented.
If they are going to slam you they might as well give you straight facts. I think I'd be calling Simu if I got a response from feedback like that.
That's not how I remember the 2002 Artisan Faire at all, actually. There were a ton of shops, as evidenced by the shop lists on my site and elsewhere. I also remember a lot of merchants, since it was billed as a service-oriented festival. I went to both 2002 and 2003, and 2002 was nothing to sneeze at.

You know, I think I may have my festivals confused. It's been 10 years, and I am not getting any younger, maybe it was the Festival of Oleani that I was thinking was totally RP. I'll have to go check my purchased tickets again, if I went to both 2002 (which I saw) as well as 2003 then that is where my mix up is. Sorry for any confusion.

I can't remember if there was no presale for premium or not, but I don't remember ever seeing small batches of tickets like this. 10 tickets on sale for a 10 slot quest yes, but not 1/4 of ticket sales.

It's called the Simu business school.
Professor "So you know you can have a limited ticket event and sell it out, so what do you do"
Student A "Make it bigger and better then the last event, something people will drool over and talk about for YEARS"
Prof "Good, what else?"
Student B "Oh oh, Keep the prices reasonable, and hype it up for MONTHS!"
Prof "very good, anyone else"
Student C "make it fair for everyone on attending?"
Prof "Good idea"
Student D "I would do all that, and I would also change all my policies, make the entire ordeal a pain in the ass, piss off 80% of the players, and if they write feedback, lie and tell them to suck an egg"
Prof "Now you got it!"
How are they going to not allow character transfers on accounts with tickets? I mean... seriously, if I buy a ticket I'm unable to do any transfers for the summer? Thats retarded with a capital R. I was going to move some characters between accounts regardless pretty soon.

Too bad for you! Now they'll make you sign an affidavit and everything!
(actually, my assumption is that x-fers between your own accounts won't have issues because you already "own" the ticket with one of your accounts ... but of course that is logic and this is Simu, so I am probably wrong).

He Didn't clarify... yet. But it could mean that the char that is listed as buying the ticket can now not be transferred. I had an issue in DR where a char got transferred when that char had a ticket to an upcoming quest. The ticket moved with the transfer. Billing had to manually go in and put it back. It could be something like that.
But then again, this is Simu. They may just disable all char transfers till RtCF is over.
Wyrom clarified on forums that character transfers will not be restricted.

Gotta love the way Simu makes a sport out of talking to customers like they're shit.

Wish I could tell you that, honestly. Back in 2002 and 2003, I wasn't much of a festival person, and I had no idea how to go about finding merchants. I'd just bought tickets to go and have a good time. Was only after I got there that I kept hearing about merchants showing up.

like...i'll be the first to bitch about simu. I, in fact, don't subscribe because I'm tired of giving them money for running things like shit on the business end.
But this is not one of those times (other than the one GM that threw a hissy and shamed you).
They've done this before, they gave you advance notice of how it was going to work, and it's all within the bounds of premium benefits. When the complaints first came in Wyrom handled it, escalated it, and they decided not to change it. They told you it wasn't changing, and why they were doing this one event in this manner. What else do you want?
For the most part people are just stamping their feet and crying because they didn't get a ticket, not because they truly feel the distribution method is flawed. That is a key difference.

I have no problem with the whole basic/premium thing, in fact I even defended Simu on that decision. The way they released the tickets though seems like one giant cluster fuck.
That's all fine and dandy though, cluster fuck or not it's a decision they made.
But customers are understandably angry right now, they want to vent to someone at the company. The person at the company should be willing to listen and offer some sort of sappy bullshit nonsense about how the company has heard their complaint and will consider it in the future. Not this shit of "Well FIRST of all let me tell you how you're wrong...and SECOND of all it's been this way the whole time!!1!!1one!! I don't care what your memory says!11!1one!"

You're confused, and you seem to obviously be talking about me. I was always going to get tickets. I don't know how you could say that for certain. As you don't know who's accounts those are. 12 of those 14 could be new accounts. If that would be the case, that is pretty significant. Considering they could do it again next run, and the following.
Farmer said this...
A basic account is a basic account. Whether or not it's a player with multiple player accounts or a player with a basic and a premium. I'm just not really following this distinction I guess.
If the purpose of allowing basic was to give non premium members a chance at tickets, and most or all of the basic's that got tickets were secondary accounts of premium members, then the basic chance didn't do what they wanted it to do, and instead failed. Same thing with the multiple batches. If it didn't do what Wyrom had intended, give chances to people in diff time zones, then it failed.

I don't understand the confusion. The point of opening tickets to basic subscribers was to give those who cannot afford to upgrade to premium a chance at winning a ticket to this event. If this opportunity is instead utilized by premium members to maximize their ticket holdings by using the additional time to roll up accounts and gain their 2nd/3rd/4th etc ticket, it completely undermines the intended goal of offering these slots to Basic subscribers.
This change was in direct response to specific feedback received over the years. Do you honestly think that feedback was, "It is proving FAR too expensive to sign up my Basic alt accounts for limited ticket events, not to mention tricky to time when they are only offered in one lump batch. Instead, might we try opening some tickets for Basic members, and stagger the release into four individual batches to satisfy my MAing needs?"

LOL
Because the whole point IQ of 2 is that it was to allow NON premium players a chance to go. If the player has a premium account, they would have had a chance in the premium only tickets. Yes, the account is basic, so it doesn't matter that the account is basic. But if you are telling me there is no difference between say crb getting say 3 tickets, 2 on premium, 1 on basic, and a person who ONLY has a basic account not being able to get one, because a basic account got a ticket, then you are so delusional there really is no point to continue reading what you type.

If someone had both types of accounts then it is completely irrelevant. Are you saying that of all 14 tickets purchased by basic accounts all of them also have premium accounts too? Do you have the numbers to back that up or are you just making shit up again?

Wyrom said he expected between 10 and 20% of the tickets to go towards basic accounts and he was pretty spot on. All the people complaining about basic members getting a shot to attend don't have a leg to stand on.
I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. If the Premium position is that NO basic members should have had a shot at the Festival because Festival admission is a Premium perk, then any Basic account that got a slot took the place of what would otherwise have been taken by a Premium slot.
msconstrew
05-03-2013, 08:15 AM
Because if they have premium accounts, they are not basic players.
If you have a premium account, you are premium, even if you have 97 basic accounts.
But this is irrelevant. The issue is that Premium players didn't want Basic accounts to have access because Premium players felt that they pay a premium (ha!) for early access to events - which they got. But they also felt that Basic players shouldn't have as much access to events (or any, in some cases). Going by that logic, then, if you have 97 Basic accounts NONE of them should have gotten access and your single Premium account should have gotten access.
I mean, for god's sake - arguing about this is ridiculous because it is fucking over. And there are two more festivals coming this summer, so it seems likely that everyone who wants a chance to go will get a chance. But at least keep your message consistent.

Festival admission is not a premium perk. Being able to buy tickets to said festivals before basic accounts is. Which is precisely what happened here.

I wasn't saying that it was a premium perk. What I said was:
If the Premium position is ... , then any Basic account that...
So the point I was trying to make was that IF your position is that Festivals ARE a premium-only perk, THEN any basic account who got access took a spot away from someone with a premium membership. I was taking issue with your logic where you said that only 14% of a limited distribution didn't invalidate that position.
In other words, I am rendering an opinion on what is or isn't a premium perk. Just saying that if that's the premium position on the matter, any basic account that got access effectively "stole" some premium member's spot.

In the end, it's a limited supply of tickets at $75 which resulted in nearly unlimited demand.
I'm not an economist but doesn't it seem like the price of tickets are just way too low?
Re: Premium Benefits: Maybe they could have offered ~100 "premie" tickets at the cost of ticket + X,XXX premium points.
... for now, back to the backspace/click routine ...
Prices from wyrom on 8x fusion...
25m to pad hcp-mcp, 42m to pad mcp-xcp ~100m to add resistance to it if it were xcp
doing it in the opposite order would be expensive (surcharges to pad resistant armor)

They didn't want to use price gating in this event. I personally liked the way they did business on the first running of the Wavedancer. You tier the services based on price. Highest price gets garaunteed major services. Next down gets a strong shot at those services, next down gets limited, next down only general etc etc.

I loved the Wave Dancer, I know it was burn out for the GMs but I think they could have done a tiered service for this event. Guaranteed major with access to the minors, quest, minor only with access to the quest and then just the quest and shopping with maybe a few GALDs and it would have appealed to a lot of people. People would have paid probably $150.00 dollars for the guaranteed major with the chance of getting the ultimate gear and any minors they got would have been gravy. I could see $50.00 for the minors only (because you have to complete with all the guaranteed majors as well as other minor people) and for just the very few shops he said maybe $15.00? You're getting only a few shops hopefully a couple of GALDs and the quest. If they had thought about it a little differently they could have done a few more shops and charged a couple more bucks.
My fear is because this has been so far, a big pain in the butt, we won't see another event like this ever.

my favorite event was .. and I can't recall what the name of it was but it was in the late 90's was the auction event. They made some super sweet items and you got a ticket. You put your ticket in a bowl when the item you wanted came up and a random person won. If you didn't, you just went and bid on another item. I guess droughtman was similar, but more random for what item you got.

It's starting to seem like there's no possible way to achieve that goal beyond a certain level, though. The lottery wouldn't help if they're just rolling up extra accounts, and a lot of the more gung-ho people have extra basic accounts already, so you can't go by start date. Basically, short of actively attempting to prevent multi-accounting, which is both unfeasible and probably a bad business decision, there may not be any way to ensure that low-investment players get any significant number of tickets. Of course, if they got even a few, it's more than they would have gotten otherwise, no?

I don't remember the exact description, but they were the progenitor to the Dhu lizards and kittens. Two went out that I know of. Connour had one and the other one went to some sorcerer, I think. Gravetaker, or something like that.
The above information may be entirely inaccurate, however, due to what I was doing to my brain in the late 90's.
Foehn's Promise was good to me. I won two nice items, one of which I sold for 20 million (some kind of lover's knot pair that allowed realm travel, I think), and an item I foolishly traded away (the mithril short sword - flared fire on every attack, and could be waved). I got a very nice two-hander for it, but changes to Gemstone since then have made me regret the decision. At the time, I was a two-hand warrior, and fixskills and fixstats were years away.
Of course, I gave away the silver and all my cool weapons when I quit playing a couple of years after that.

There was also a nice auction event based on levels. Depending on what level you were, you would go into a tent and bid on some nice items. This event was not a pay event. I won a self-mana handaxe that made disks. Damn wish I still had it.

Or, they could have put all 101 tickets up for sale at once and anyone who upgraded to premium gets the same chance. You know, avoiding this gigantic, overly prolonged clusterfuck of epic proportions.

So the vouchers you get are basically useless for majors won via Auction. Understandable really. I could imagine a power hunter and merchant buying up envelopes, and getting 90-100% off. Then they could bid anything they want really on say the glove bow. Granted, they would still physically need the silver, but they would know that they would keep it.
Still though, it basically renders all this voucher stuff meaningless for those that buy their slot via auction because they don't want to press their luck on a spinner/raffle.
I think you've confused the squirrel pouches with hedgehogs. There was a squirrel released at EG auction 09, but don't think any since then. Just lots and lots of hedgehogs..and lizards.

That was the worst auction ever (though the original source of my scroll book). The GMs were fucking coy and wouldn't tell you what an item did. They also did this thing to track silvers in the months leading up to it to be "fair" (that evil word again) so you couldn't buy silvers or trade silvers or sell things, etc. Really lame. Anyways. I bought a mystery flask which ended up being 40 charges of invisibility (aka, drinkable glass amulet).

I remember an auction based on tents with different levels. It was sort of automated, if the last bid was 70,000, the minimum next bid would be 90,500 or some such. The GMs were watching for people giving younger characters coins to bid in the younger tents. This was either still during AOL or shortly after it went to the web.
There have been different auction/token combos over the years. I did not go to the Promise in 2000 but I did go some other year but I can't remember exactly if it was a free premium only thing or if it was a pay event.

The early-mid 90's Hot Summer Nights auctions had tents with escalating bids though it seemed a bit less automated from what I remember. Misdy (Misty?) outbid me by a hair and I didn't get the color changing cloak I wanted. Ended up with a pair of self charging water walking boots I sold to Thalior for 100 THOUSAND silvers heh. It was a princely sum to me and I was able to buy a set of 8x crit padded fulls with the money.
Good times. :)

I wish they would bring back something along the lines of the festival they had at Zul Logoth. I am looking forward to the Solhaven one, even though I'm sure the people of Solhaven don't want to see a bunch of visitors.

I spent every last coin I had (2 million silvers) at the pavilion auctions on a golden kai statue, thinking it might be wizard strength. It was: 5x a day self-charging, and I still have it. Also spent 600k at one of the spitfire auctions on a tiny brooch that no one knew what was. It was a blank mage rechargable, which at the time was a decent item, though not exactly awesome.

I know right? Conversely, Giantsheild won a certificate to add 3 enchants to a weapon and maintain its blessable nature, which was an even much bigger deal at the time. That was at the same Spitfire auction. I remember that by the end of that first Spitfire run, pretty much every one was flat broke, so some things at auction went very cheaply.

Yeah, mage rechargeable was actually something then, people used to gather up to hold recharging sessions. I have a mage chargeable wizard shield that would have been great if it hadn't been nerfed.

I think it was at the Juggernaut auction that I got a mage rechargeable 101 ring. Then someone (Omnirus?) wanted it as part of a package for a trade to someone else and traded me my crown plus 1 million for the ring. I really needed the silvers at the time and thought later that I sort of got the short end of the deal since the crown was mage rechargeable Maelstrom which would have been a pita to recharge frequently. Of course now its worth so much more (presumably) simply because it has a unique description that you couldn't get from alteration: "the obsidian crown of storms", and the mage rechargeable bit is almost worthless. The description at the time wasn't considered as big of a deal as the 101 rechargeable ring, not that named items like that were common place but a person of means had a reasonable chance of getting items like that with the small population and so much more GM interaction per capita. :)
Funny how things work out lol.
