I recently went to the BarrelHouse (http://www.barrelhousebrewing.com/) in Paso Robles, CA.

An incredible experience all around. The brewery was awesome, and the surrounding beer gardens was great. They don't do any food on site other than small platters (artisan meat, cheese, and bread) and free peanuts, but they offer up part of their parking lot to food trucks.

Their best beers, or at least my favorite, aren't on the website, unfortunately.

Well instead of just telling us they aren't on the website, why don't you describe them if you can! C'mon Bra!* (*meaning Bro, like the Hawaiians say it)

BTW, if any of you are familiar with World of Beer, which sounds somewhat similar to what Danical is referencing but they don't serve any food at all, but they open in plaza's where you can order food from other places in the plaza and have it delivered to your table. The closest one to me WAS 20 miles away. The new one opening soon you say? 5 miles!

Let us know, cause I'm a fiend for Belgian style ales. Not sure how Belgian style ends up coming out as a stout, but definitely curious.

It was just ok. I got no stout like qualities from the beer really.. except the dark color. If you closed your eyes, it tasted like a Belgian.. but the dark color was fucking with me.

Hmmm never been, but I just looked WoB up and there's one about 15 miles away. I'll have to try it.

If it's bad I'll blame PB.

If you're a beer fan, it's not bad. I guarantee.

Fair point. The special seasonals I liked were the Dark Nectar (barrel aged stout with cocoa and coffee) and the Bacchus (quad). I was also surprised by their Berry Saison (on the website); I know saisons have huge variability, but this was unlike any other farm ale I've experienced. It's not my favorite saison, but is was refreshing. The Dark Nectar was easily the best of the bunch.

It is ok... nothing I would probably order again though.

I have such high expectations for some things.. like a Belgian Dubbel named Game of Thrones... from a decent brewery. And when it doesn't deliver on that expectation, I'm let down.

I'm better off just getting a beer I know nothing about and have low expectations for.. like that Russian Imperial from last night. I paid almost 9 bucks for a little fucking beer and just KNEW it wouldn't be good... and now it's probably the best Russian Imperial I've ever had.

What's not to like? It's a bar with about 40 beers on tap and another 500 beers in bottles.. with hot girls behind the bar that actually are knowledgeable about beer and beer styles. I don't usually go there on the weekends because all the hipster doofuses go there and it's crowded and loud. I'd rather just go there with a friend on Thursday night and watch football with some good beers.

Normally I don't drink Labatt Blue in the US because it's watered down bullshit. However, the Canadian version that you can only buy in Canada tastes SOOOOO much better. You put them side-by-side and you couldn't tell they were the same beer. I used to live up there, so I enjoyed it regularly. Now I have to wait for a buddy of mine to go up to Montreal to visit his cousins to bring me back a case every couple of months.

Some beer that I can regularly get that I enjoy here:
Flying Fish Exit 16 Double IPA
Munich Hofbrau
various pumpkin brews while in season. The only one I had that I disliked was the Sam Adams version
El Presidente (If I get desperate)
Stella Artois (if I get desperate)

Flying Dog out of Frederick Maryland has a new offer. Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout.

It's not too heavy, pretty light actually. The chocolate is subtle as is the heat. Leaves a little burn around the lips. Quite nice.

TBH, we would probably agree on a lot of things. When it comes to social issues, I'm more liberal than you, I'm willing to bet. My only goal is for you to question your own canon as vehemently as you do your opponents'.

To not would be futile. Everything I do, everything I think, everything that is relevant to me requires me to put myself in other shoes. That is my perspective.

TBH, you are nowhere near liberal. How about you be honest with yourself before you cast judgement on others?

Speaking of beer, I finally got my hands on Heady Topper... It's a kick ass brew. I see what all the hype is about. If you're not from the New England area, there's a good chance that you haven't heard of it, but if you're ever in Vermont and can figure out when the local stores get their weekly stock, it's definitely worth a go, assuming you like moderately hoppy beer.

Private property would probably be our biggest disagreement, but other than that, I'm a big proponent of most liberal ideals. Huge supporter of gay marriage, separation of Church and State, equal rights, legalizing drugs, gambling, prostitution, very pro-abortion, big supporter of taking our nose out of other countries' business, I'm all for reducing military spending and using it for social benefits...

Maybe that's not very liberal to you, but it would sure scare my parents. I agree very much with this article (http://prospect.org/article/liberal-idea)....do you?

I've been drinking Shiner bock Light Blonde lately. Usually two on a monday night followed by a gin and tonic.

Tonight I tried the Budweiser Freedom Reserve, and I'm honestly surprised to say I really liked it.

I got Blue Point Toasted Lager on BOGO at Publix last week. $5.00 a six pack for craft beer that is good.

Not as much anymore. Just made too damn much beer (I know.. I didn't think this was a thing either!)

It didn't keep in bottles as well as I had hoped. After a year or so, it would lose it's carbonation. Probably because we were putting the caps on with a hand crank instead of a commercial bottler.

Made a batch with some friends last year.. a golden belgian. Also made some cider that turned out really good.

With all the craft beers available now, it's just as cheap and good to try different beers from experienced brewers.

Yeah, there is a guy here at work who homebrews and we've been talking about it awhile now. He basically makes 5 gal at a time and that's it, just for casual drinking at home. He's of the same opinion... basically you can get a 6 pack of any type of beer for roughly 10 bucks. I don't drink enough beer to justify all the time it'd take to make my own so I just buy a case every 4-6 weeks and I'm good.
