So, the really guilty served 3 years+ in far worse conditions than regular prison. Those who were basically guilty of nothing, also served time. Then there are those who were not charged and who were also released after years of illegal incarceration. People get less than 3 years for assaulting cops so I am fine with the time served. 2. We know that there are certain crimes that are gateway crimes to other, much more serious crimes.
3. We know that broken glass and stop and frisk policing works to drastically reduce crime.

We differ on the root cause of homelessness and crime. Give a homeless person $50k in cash and a free home. A month later that same person is likely to be as broke and destitute as they were before you gave them anything. In the overwhelming majority of cases, homelessness is a lifestyle choice. The way to fix homelessness is to treat mental illness (including bringing back involuntary commitment), steeper criminal penalties for both the use and trade of hard narcotics like meth and fentanyl, social & financial incentives that promote the nuclear family (we need more active fathers), and education which is the most difficult for government to move the needle.
