Two problems with what Trump's claim of authorship..When I caught Donald Trump by phone this morning, the president wanted to make one thing clear: “America First” means whatever he says it does. “Well, considering that I’m the one that developed ‘America First,’ and considering that the term wasn’t used until I came along, I think I’m the one that decides that,” Trump told me. “For those people who say they want peace—you can’t have peace if Iran has a nuclear weapon. So for all of those wonderful people who don’t want to do anything about Iran having a nuclear weapon—that’s not peace.”

First, the term "America First" was a political slogan developed and widely used by Woodrow Wilson more than 100 years ago when he pledged to keep the USA out of WWI. It was later adopted by the KKK. Then by pro-Nazi U.S. groups who wanted to keep the USA out of WWII. And finally, it was used by Pat Buchanan in the 1990s. Trump copied it from Buchanan. Trump did not invent it. Make up your own mind about similarities between Trump and those who used the term before him.
Second, Trump is today reversing the meaning he applied to the term as a candidate, when the used the term to mean that he would not involve the US in foreign wars. Make up your own mind about similarities between Trump and the President who invented the term 100 years ago.
