    That’s badass.

I work for a bank. I didn’t try but a few of my colleagues had the same idea. A buddy submitted a mother-may-I request to buy shares of Nvidia, but they shot it down with a firm no. Fuck Dodd-Frank and all the BS we’re subjected to. That’s a big reason why my personal investments are in real estate.

During these hard economic times, Mother's Day will be less floral than in prior years..

“We have to charge more, and it’s definitely affecting sales — which I totally get,” Allison Krivachek of Hydrangea Bloom in Tiffin, Iowa, told CNN. “People just don’t have the disposable income they used to.”

Eighty percent of all cut flowers sold in the United States are imported from Colombia, Canada or Ecuador, according to the US Department of Agriculture. The majority of those flowers come from Colombia and Ecuador, where year-round growing climates support the floral industry. Those countries now face tariffs making it more expensive for their products to enter the United States.

And Mother’s Day spending has dropped 14% among US shoppers as many are scaling back due to tariffs and economic concerns, according to a LendingTree survey.

It's not like you could afford flowers for your mommy anyway.

You will no doubt stick to your traditional gift for her: A poopy diaper.

Looks like we may have a deal pending with China.

So, anyone else want to tell us how tariffs don't work?

I was sooo right when I posted the above, as shown by the below.

President Donald Trump on Friday said the U.S. would begin unilaterally informing many of its trading partners of new tariff rates, rather than securing deals with the countries individually as the White House has repeatedly promised.

After his sweeping April tariff plan sent markets spiraling and set in motion a global trade war, Trump reversed course and issued a 90-day pause on the new duties for every affected country except China, opening the door for individual countries to negotiate deals with his trade team.

But in remarks at a business roundtable in the United Arab Emirates, the final stop on a multiday Middle East trip, Trump said that while “150 countries” were seeking to make deals with the U.S., it was “not possible to meet the number of people that want to see us.”

President Donald Trump blasted Walmart on Saturday after the country’s largest retailer warned this week that it will have to raise prices because of tariffs.

“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, “EAT THE TARIFFS,” and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. “I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

Walmart CFO John David Rainey said in an interview with CNBC on Thursday that, “We have not seen price increases at this magnitude, in the speed in which they’re coming at us before, and so it makes for a challenging environment.”

If Walmart eats the tariffs, as Trump is demanding they do, what would happen to smaller grocery chains?

Want me to tell you what will happen as prices rise? Trump will call for price controls.

Wall Street is wising up to Trump..

Wall Street traders have developed a biting new acronym for a strategy that’s become surprisingly lucrative for President Donald Trump’s whiplash-inducing trade policy: TACO – “Trump Always Chickens Out.”

University of Michigan economist Justin Wolfers told Barron’s on Tuesday that “there was no BACO trade” – referring to former President Joe Biden – and “no CACO trade” referring to former President Bill Clinton.

“It was always taken as a given that when the president spoke on Monday, he would likely still mean it on Tuesday,” he added. “That’s no longer true. But what’s really hard is that it’s not even obvious when it’ll be true, and when it won’t be. Madness.”
As the title of this thread indicates, this is definitely how you lose a trade war.

    1) See political strategy madman theory.

    2) Allies and trading partners are given a chance to negotiate a better deal. For them, this is not a trade war but instead using the leverage we have of our massive American market to correct course. The postwar (WW2) strategy of lopsided trade agreements is over. Trump’s strategy has been successful as evidenced by many nations dropping/reducing their tariffs on the U.S. and commuting to other terms that benefit our country. A few, like the EU, are holding out and have chosen the hard way.

    3) We are winning the trade war against China. If you pay attention to news outside of MSNBC-13, the Chinese middle class is protesting over economic hardship that hasn’t been seen since Covid lockdowns. The CCP is doing all they can to prop up their economy through economic stimulus, but that is unsustainable. Consumer spending and their real estate (real estate is a HUGE primary investment to the Chinese…this can’t be overstated as it’s a cultural difference) has slowed significantly since the increase in tariffs. We can survive this. China can not.
