Speaking of Bluesky, you might have seen a lot of articles written lately (like the dumb one Clyder linked to) talking about how fast Bluesky is growing and how it is going to be a real competitor to X, you know, just like they did with the failed Mastadon project and the mega Facebook failure of Threads.

Well Bluesky peaked at a daily active user count of roughly 1.5 million users, yesterday their daily active user count was 1.2 million, a drop of 20%. Also at the current rate Bluesky is growing they are looking at adding about 45 million accounts in a year, keep in mind probably more than half of these users will use the app once, maybe for a week, then never use the app again. But let's be generous and say 80% of these people will become active monthly users, that's roughly 36 million active users they will gain a year.

X has over 600 million monthly active users, meaning at the current rate (and keep in mind it looks like they have already peaked and are now on a downward slope) it would take over 17 years for Bluesky to outperform X. Almost 250 million people use X every single day.

tl;dr: Bluesky will most likely end up being yet another failed social media company (or at least won't ever be a major player in the social media game) even though a bunch of "celebrities" flocked to it and the media all went crazy saying how this is finally the end of X.
