Trump is already inventing an excuse to back out of the debates with Biden.
After
vowing in 2020 never to set foot in Minnesota again, Trump went there Friday evening and said he would demand that Biden take a
drug test before the debate. Trump's point was that nobody could give a State of the Union Address as good as Biden's address earlier this year without the assistance of performance enhancing drugs.
Remember a different kind of test for the last debates? In 2020, the Commission on Presidential Debates rules required each candidate to test negative for COVID on the day of the debate. Trump lied and said he had tested negative. In fact, he had not taken a test, and if he had it would not have been negative. Then after Trump was hospitalized with COVID and appeared to recover, the Commission announced that the next debate would have to be virtual, instead of in person. Trump angrily backed out and refused to participate because it would not be held in person with a live audience.
Trump dropped 5 points in the polls after the first debate in 2020 and never recovered.
