Voting machines make a safe, tamper proof record of all of the ballots it processes. But the ballots themselves are always eligible for a recount regardless. I'm not sure how you ultra right crazies are going to justify more human only vote handling when American history is rife with stories of humans manipulating ballots. Now of course we have history made of a President trying to falsify the certified results after the election as well.
