Most Republicans don't want it, the vast majority of Americans want to preserve a right to abortion and yet that single issue has hamstrung the Republican Party in the last midterm and likely will in the 2024 General Election as well. It's important to remember that a fraction of Republicans are the traditionalist, bible-thumping Conservatives that are trying to drag the entire country kicking and screaming back into the Dark Ages. Because of ongoing losses to membership roles, Republicans are having to compromise with their ilk in order to compete against growing Democrat dominance.

Morally and ethically I do understand your position.
The legal issue though gets complicated when you try to define when human life begins (I believe that it’s conception) and women having medical autonomy. I believe you and I would find agreement on these issues, but we can both recognize there are others that do not.
Further, I think it is more atrocious to abort a fetus/infant in say late third trimester than it is in the first few weeks of pregnancy. Part of my motivation to compromise is to protect a fetus with a developed brain & capability of feeling emotions & pain. More people can agree aborting those developed infants/fetuses (excluding fringe cases where it’s medically necessary or the infant is certain to die). So I say let’s start there and focus more on what we can agree on vs making it an absolute all or nothing.

It kinda cracks me up when leftists believe in their heart of hearts the future belongs to them & traditional conservative social values are dying off. You mean this ideology that encourages abortions, is the party of lgbtq+, are weak & found unattractive by the opposite sex for mating (Seran), and people who can’t talk to each other in real life for fear of being offensive/offended is the certain future for our country?
