Yes, many countries have banned guns, and it’s literally impossible to buy them or import them. So yes, it can be done.

It is not impossible, just illegal. As it is here in the US.

This is one of those situations, where I weigh the value of human life in the millions - not in the sad, unfortunate situations that result in less than 30,000 deaths.

Don't get me wrong, I empathize and wish those deaths did not occur... but allowing full government control of it's populous is something history has shown us leads to more deaths than most can imagine.

Many countries have banned guns, and they don’t have the gun problem we do. So obviously it’s quite possible and doable, to stop the illegal purchase, import and usage of guns from the point you are trying to make.
(Yes I’m aware there are millions of guns in the states, but I’m not referring to that aspect. Just that countries with bigger and smaller populations have successfully stopped the illegal purchases of guns, and gun violence in general)
