The data is there to compare the first year in Afghanistan costs compared to the first less than a year in Ukraine costs, would that make you feel better? Are you familiar with using known datasets to extrapolate and predict for other (usually smaller) datasets?

Why can't we complain about America's foreign policy? It's our tax dollars.

They're desperately trying to compare the cost of Bush's Iraq and Afghanistan wars against assistance to Ukraine and are perfectly happy to make up figures and timetables to do it.

That’s fair, and not fair. These two wars are completely different, does your data account for us troops lost as well?

I’m OK with Ukraine war for the main fact that we don’t have boots on the ground. I also believe that’s why the majority of Americans will continue to support Ukraine.

I don’t like that the cheapest I can source good combloc steel cased 7.62x39 is $0.38 a round because all the ammo manufacturers are committed to the war effort. I have, of course, strategic reserves…but this whole thing is making my lead therapy a lot more costly. It’s a serious 1st world inconvenience. Why can’t we just give peace a chance?

Oh, I also support peace, and I’m sure most people do, except the man dropping bombs on civilian cities, only wants peace on his terms and he’s bombing people until it happens. Those people he’s bombing, don’t want the peace he’s offering, which isn’t peace at all.

    My unpopular opinion…

Without the help & arms of the western world Ukraine can’t win this war. Even with all the help a victory for Ukraine certainly not guaranteed. Even if all of that happens and Ukraine manages to push out Russia, their country will be rubble. Putin can’t afford to lose this war and the reality is Russia has a lot more people & resources to throw into this conflict than Ukraine does.

An alternative…Ukraine can cede a tiny amount of territory in Donbas & commit for a period of time (say 10 years) not to join NATO. Hell, we don’t want them as a NATO member right now anyways because it’s too unstable. Putin can claim an insignificant political victory and the West can start helping Ukraine rebuild.

I wouldn’t say they have more resources, at all.

But I get what you are saying, but cede a little territory, and what about the people there? What about their homes? The people in Donbas want nothing to do with Russia. Even people in Crimea, want to go back to Ukraine.

The problem is, Putin won’t just want a little piece of territory, he wants everything he “annexed” and these people want zero to do with Russia. If you are willing to give a little, Putin will demand it all.

This is an all or nothing for Putin. He won’t stop until he gets everything he wants, and when he does get it, he’ll go and try to get more.

You don't think that Russia has more resources than Ukraine? Are you counting the US as a "resource" in that equation or am I missing something here?
