In before Seran unironically says, "Why do you hate paying taxes?"

So.. when all said and done.. the IRS is going to have more employees than the entire DOJ.. when taxes are automated and handled by computers for the most part.

Seems logical right? I'm sure nothing at all will go wrong with this.
That isn't an accurate count of the IRS. The 80,000 new agents is over the course of 10 years and accounts for 50,000 retirements over those 10 years. They are increasing in size, but only by about 30k.

This doesn't make sense though. Did congress really have to authorize the IRS to replace agents who are retiring? Without this authorization the IRS would have shrank by 50k people over the next 10 years?

The IRS already has 50,000 vacancies as is, they have lost over 30% of their work force over the last 10 years... So it probably would have shrank even further without this bill.

I wonder how the Great Resignation impacted the IRS…

Makes absolute logical sense to me for an IRS agent to ponder about seeking more morally positive & meaningful employment like oh I dunno…perhaps prostitution or cooking meth.

I imagine most people join the enforcement division because it is an easy way to get Federal Law Enforcement experience so you can move on to another agency.

    LOL

Best news I've heard in a while.

Shit, I'm in such a good mood now, I'll even let it slide for the next week if Seran wants to give Biden credit for when oil drops and blame Putin for when it goes up.

No. Their budget wouldn't simply delete the ones that are retiring. Like any business, they would have just hired someone else to fill that job since the money is already budgeted for.
