Thread: Rittenhouse trial

Archigeek, the maxim about never putting your client on the stand (actually the client decides, not counsel) is a little more nuances than that. There are definitely cases where you might want to consider doing it. A self defense case, would be one. A sexual offense where consent is the defense is another. Your client has to be likeable and or believable. I think Rittenhouse is probably neutral on likeable, but definitely believable

At this rate he'll not only go free but be awarded millions in damages and soon to appear on dancing with the stars.
The only rude person I met was a taxi driver in kagoshima. I was going from the train station to the ferry to take it over to an island and was showing him my papers and he was like "oh, climb mountain?" and I'm like "hai, yep!" and he made a muscle pose(bent arm, whatever you call it) laughed, and rubbed my belly.. like "oh, no, you fat american fuck, you no get up there", but whatever - Japhrimel

Not having him take the stand would have placed doubt in public opinion when public opinion is already leaning in your direction.

The stream I watched today the channel did a live poll with 40,000 people watching, 87% of the viewers chose not guilty.

TyT even reneged on their previous opinion, that's 5.1 million followers.

Who cares? Why would you risk losing because some young kid said something dumb on the stand because you wanted to win good favor with the public? That makes zero sense. The only opinions that matter are in that courtroom.
I don't use Lich. If you want to do business with me, contact me via PM, IG, or on AIM. Or maybe use smoke signals. Don't like it, get off of my lawn.

    I think you're being a little naive.

It's not like the jurors go home and check the public opinion polls at night. They'd get expelled for that if the judge found out. Most jurors take their responsibility seriously and would not do that.

If public opinion didn't matter the media wouldn't spin the story like they have.

    You're being naive.

Public opinion matters to the public, politicians, etc. It doesn't matter to the jury. I think you're underestimating the integrity of jurors.
