Thread: Things that made you laugh today (Political Version)

Republicans are playing chicken without the national debt. Americans have already noticed that while McConnell has told Democrats to do it on their own, he and fellow Senate Republicans have blocked legislation to pass the debt ceiling increase with only 50 votes.

In the meantime, Axios has printed a laughable piece about the Treasury simply being able to mint a one trillion dollar platinum coin. Perhaps the author and Mr Diehl haven't seen what's occurred to all of these failed socialist nations who experience hyperinflation whenever they simply print more money to pay the bills. At least America sells debt which investors want as a stable bond.

Trillion-dollar platinum coin could be minted at the last minute

"Voila, we'd have bought ourselves the equivalent of a trillion-dollar increase in the debt limit, without any impact on inflation," says Diehl.

There are such things as monopolies though, and specifically with regards to information flow... that should be regulated. My issue is they act like editors, not a "town center", and thus should not recieve the protections that they do. They should fall under the same guidelines that News Agencies do.

If they weren't acting like editors, and allowed information to flow freely... then I could care less.
Eh, to me, FB always seems a bad year away from obscurity. MySpace dropped quick. FB could too.

Yea.. problem with Facebook and Google are their subsidiary holdings of other media platforms.. it's not like Facebook is just Facebook, or Google just Google.

2 main corporations (and their subsidiaries - which is still ran by them) being able to manage and edit the flow of information for billions of people is overboard in my opinion...

It's not that they're a monopoly... it's that their a monopoly with protections, and can not be held accountable... unlike other news outlets.

Republicans have said they would vote to raise the debt limit if Democrats abandoned their latest crazy 3.5 trillion dollar tax and spend plan, but Democrats have shot down that offer.

Also Democrats could easily use reconciliation to raise the limit all by themselves but they keep playing games with this bill.

Stop blaming Republicans for the failure of Democrats.

My favorite part is President Biden talking about the Republicans not wanting to raise the debt limit:

“Not only are Republicans refusing to do their job, they’re threating to use their power to prevent us from doing our job: Saving the economy from a catastrophic event.”

And there are two votes that Senator Biden had specifically voting NO to... raising the debt limit...

This is what happens when you are a career politician... you can't do anything that doesn't make you look like a flaming hypocritical douchebag.

It'd get parceled out if necessary. FB being publicly traded probably puts them in a worse position than MySpace was.

Do you have a source for a Republican Senator offering to raise the debt limit of Biden's Infrastructure bill were shelved? I searched but couldn't find anything and not surprising, headlines about Republicans holding our financial stability hostage while trying to deny much needed capital improvements would be written by the truckload.
