The president's party tends to do poorly in midterms in national elections and even in state elections, so it's hard to blame Obama or Trump for either of those things. I think the reason they point to Obama's 8 years is because it was by far the worst the president's party has done on the national and state level. We aren't talking just a few house seats flipping, we're talking losing the senate, losing the house, and losing entire state legislative bodies (both lower and upper chambers as well as governor seats).

Look at Washington state for example, one of the most liberal states in the country. In 2008 Democrats had a 62-36 lead over Republicans in the state house, by 2012 it was down to 55-43, 2014 it was 51-47, and by 2016 it was 50 to 48. It was trending back up now since a Republican is in office but still only at 57-41, a few seats off their 2008 totals. I'm not sure if traditional Republican strongholds have suffered these kinds of losses under Trump but I suppose it's possible. Going by Kentucky tonight I would say not.

The funny thing about Washington State is that it's not as liberal as people think. It's just that the population centers in King and Pierce county counter-balance the rest of the state. Spokane County, the 2nd biggest county in the state is pretty firmly Republican. King and Pierce make up about a 1/3 of the population though. You go 30 minutes from Seattle and it's Trump signs all day long.

He has to claim irregularities in order to demand a recount. He doesn't seem like the type of person to accept defeat easily, he's going to be the Al Gore of Kentucky.

I lived in the tri-cities out in Washington and they referenced Seattle as "The dark side of the mountains". These people absolutely hate Seattle, there has been serious talk there for several years about wanting to split Washington into two states.

Yup, I'm on the west side. Been hearing that stuff for years. Maybe Dino Rossi can run for governor again!

Washington was kind of sad to me. The state itself is amazing, I can't think of a place I have been that has so many different climate zones. Seattle though, honestly it's probably the biggest shit hole I have ever visited. I basically went there to see the space needle and visit the pier.

The contrast was something straight out of a book or some shit. You have all these people eating steak and lobster in an open air restaurant, this establishment has 3 foot cast iron fencing around the business. Directly on the other side of the fence you have heroin junkies passed out on the sidewalk and pan handlers sitting beside them. I could not get the fuck out of there fast enough. The space needle was just as disappointing, surrounded by junkies and pan handlers. Seattle has a serious fucking problem that I can only imagine is a 100x worse in S.F.

That being said, once you cross the bay and get around Olympic it becomes absolutely amazing again. I really wish I could afford to live in that area, if ever there was a place that reminded me of where pirates may live, it's those little villages along the 101.

Yeah, shit hole is an understatement. It's crazy what's it turned into since I moved out here 20 years ago. I pretty much stay out unless I'm going to a concert or hitting one of my breweries.
