Edit to add: Not that you asked, but something along that line is why I got interested in the first place. The museum bit, not the Indiana Jones bit (though that's there obviously). My stepfather used to use me as labor and mosquito bait to dig for him out at a Lenape site in New Jersey when I was 8 or 9. We found all sorts of things, which was hugely awesome in itself, but afterwards, he'd just store it all away in a locked box in his gun closet. And there they stayed and probably are still. It bothered me even at that age that nobody else got to see the things (mostly arrowheads and pottery shards). They belong in a museum.

In the past two years alone I've donated half a dozen recovered artifacts to the (Local Native American) Nation Museum and mapped part of the original 17th century structure of the Jesuit Mission erected on what's now the reservation. I'm more than happy to let you know the specifics of it if you want to send me a PM, but this is a very small town and I would rather not publicly state which it is. I've also donated one likely Maritime Archaic find to the Labrador Heritage Museum.

I've done that largely with my own equipment and monetary investment, and the occasional loan of a GPR cart from a local university.

While I was directly in the field (at least in school), I was part of a team from Bates College that excavated and catalogued a Byzantine bath house sat beneath an Ottoman glassworks in Istanbul. I was on the cataloguing end of it; I wasn't never on site. It was more or less a bottom level internship for job experience. I didn't attend Bates. I have an associate who did.

I've been involved in other projects, but just about everyone's eyes will have glazed over several paragraphs ago.

TL;DR - What I'm trying to convey is that I care deeply about the preservation of knowledge and history, and I very much do everything in my power to further that cause, on my own dime despite the fact that I am now outside of the academic field.

A St. Louis man has been charged with murdering his wife just hours after a nonprofit organization posted his $5,000 bail in a domestic violence case also involving his wife, according to court filings.

Samuel Lee Scott, age 54, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic assault after allegedly hitting his spouse, Marcia Johnson, on April 5, and inflicting injuries to her face, ear and cheek bone. Scott was released from jail on April 9, after the St. Louis Bail Project paid his bail.

Scott arrived at Johnson’s house at 7:45 p.m. the same night. She was rushed to the hospital mere hours later with “a broken eye socket, several broken ribs, and [bruises] from head to toe,” according to the probable cause statement from the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office. She died five days later. (RELATED: Man Reportedly Denied Legal Protection After Neighbor Threatened To Kill Him. He Was Murdered Two Months Later)

Scott had threatened that he “might as well finish what [he] started since [she] was going to call the police,” according to the probable cause statement. He also has several assault and drug crime convictions on his record.

The Bail Project is a national organization predicated on paying the bail of people who are awaiting trial behind bars and are unable to afford their own release. The nonprofit expanded to St. Louis in January 2018.

“No one could have predicted this tragedy,” said the group’s Executive Director, Robin Steinberg, in a statement. “It’s important to remember that had he been wealthy enough to afford his bail, or bonded out by a commercial bail bond agency, he would have been free pretrial as well. In times like this, we must come together for this family and keep sight of the need to transform the larger systems that create poverty, racism and violence, including the pretrial bail system.”

St. Louis Attorney General Kim Gardner plans to meet with the nonprofit “to review their policies and practices to help them better understand the risks to victims and witnesses when posting bail for any type of domestic violence cases or for any defendant who is a potential safety risk to an individual or to the community,” according to a statement released by her office. Scott is now being held on $1 million bond.
tl;dr: A man beat his wife, man is thrown in jail on a 5,000 dollar bond, a nonprofit organization feels bailing out a domestic abuser is a good use of their money, man goes straight home and murders his wife.

The worst part is the nonprofit then tries to downplay everything by saying had he been rich enough to afford his bail this would have happened anyways, and also let's not forget that bail is a form of racism anyways so if we weren't such a racist country that kept people behind bars for committing crimes then he would have been free to murder his wife to begin with. Makes sense.

Bail isn't racist; it's classist. Almost racist, but not quite.

How is it no one is talking about the fact North Korea fired several ballistic missile tests yesterday?

They did the same thing a couple years ago. And a couple years before that they made a "jet fighter" out of foam and tried to pass it off as real. Aviation experts said it would never fly even if they really had built it.

Edit: Actually the fake fighter jet thing was Iran. But North Korea is equally as ridiculous.

Yes, but it's been 600ish days since the last one. Because diplomacy. Now we need to ratchet up sanctions again and create another propaganda film of hotels on NK beaches.

Anyway our President is best good friends with Kim Jong Un. They use the same tailor who specializes is potato-shaped business suits. They would never shoot their missiles at us.

Because Mueller! That's all that matters right now!

I'm sure the press will get around to talking about what a supposed failure Trump is in regards to North Korea once they have read the entire Mueller report and realize there isn't anything in there.
