PS It's not really very easy to give specific headlines to specific regions on social media. Usually when publishers do that, they do it through different affiliates.

You're thinking of boosted posts. You can boost to certain regions, for sure. But that costs money, and news publishers usually don't bother boosting posts until that post has already been pretty successful. (Also you can only target the first round- you can't control who sees the shares)

Otherwise, the Publisher has no real control over who gets what framing.

They definitely re-post with different framing to test/hone their strategy, but that rarely has anything to do with geotagging/gating.

I don't understand what point you think you're making. It sounds like cwolf just had additional context on the situation that I didn't. You're making this out to be some big dramatic event for reasons that are really unclear.

I believe the thing I saw was about physical print, but I don't see why they wouldn't also do it with location based settings.
