And you're right- the privilege cycle is very real. My first tech company made it very clear that if I hadn't gone to a top tier school I would not have been hired. (Note that the CEO is a college dropout).

And if I had not already had a tech job on my resume, my current company wouldn't have even looked at me. And I wouldn't have had a friend who could refer me.

If someone can’t get a job it’s usually because they aren’t qualified or don’t present themselves well or an unwillingness to move outside boundaries self imposed.

If you are a qualified candidate (good at your job), you’ll have no problem. People get hired all the time in tech companies with experiences different than your narrowed view of life.

Uh bud, what exactly do you want me to do? I have a Masters in Computer Science, Clearence from my military service, impeccable extra-curriculars including volunteering 5~10hours a week in charities like Habitat for Humanity and the United Way, also coach soccer as well.

Here's an idea... if you can't afford a real house.. maybe cut back on the charity hours every week and get a 2nd job? Those "impeccable extra-curriculars" aren't getting you extra money to buy a house with.. and to be honest, no employer hires you for how many hours you do charity work.

Charity begins at home.. and you can't afford one.

I mean.. if complaining about other people owning 5-6 houses isn't working.. perhaps it's time to maybe do something about your situation instead of just crying about it?

If someone like me can’t afford to purchase a modest home in his own hometown then I don’t know what to tell you, not everyone can be a YouTube star or be an exec for Google. Also, you may not know how the industry works here but very few of those guys actually worked from bottom to top, a lot of that stuff is still old school connections and family ties even in a place as progressive as SanFran.

It is the fact that your "hometown" is so progressive that you can't afford to live there.

If you want real advice, assuming you have Military experience and so on, then you should be in the Reston, Alexandria, Norfolk Virginia area or in Maryland near DC. Lots of contract work in the region for real qualifications and who can talk to or deal with the military.
