He was acting pretty perky this weekend and, because the kids asked us to, we are waiting until Friday. He isn't in pain so he won't suffer while we allow the kids time to wrap their minds around the idea of putting him down.

Also, my husband wants to just take him out in the woods and shoot bury Max himself. It's not like we can't afford it but, he's really irritated that the vet charges 180 dollars to put down a pet and dispose of the body. He's a hunter and not unfamiliar with killing animals but I am arguing against him doing it himself because I don't like the idea of him killing his own pal.

I agree. I think my husband has it worse than the rest of us. Every time he gets up to do anything Max struggles to his feet in order to follow him. He can't even go to the bathroom without feeling badly for the dog.
