The reason i'm not against more idiot-proofing of edibles is because it is the one of the few things people are gaining any traction on when attacking marijuana sales. That's why I don't mind if they put the more potent edibles behind the counter and require that they spoon feed you literature stating that if you eat highly concentrated edibles you will get very high. They can cover every inch of the packaging in these warnings if they like, too. As long as they can continue to be for sale, then it doesn't matter what manner of packaging there is and what annoying hoops you have to jump through to get it.
As long as you can still get it.
Each week new legislation is introduced in an attempt to expand medical and recreational marijuana. Vermont will likely be the first state to legalize recreational MJ through their own congress, perhaps followed by Michigan. Those that can't manage to pass in that manner will have their chance come 2016, which should see another slew of legalizations.
With so much bullshit being flung at legal weed, the worry over edible marijuana is one of the very few things which stick. Lets address the most rational of these concerns by moving potent edibles behind the counter, covering them with warnings, and requiring signatures and a lecture on risks from your local cashier. It might actually save 1 or 2 lives out of the millions who will consume the product. That's not all that terrible, is it?

Child proofing is a requirement from what i've read. It has to do with the difficulty of getting the packaging open.
I haven't read of any specific requirements about where the edibles are stored. That may be a feature now, but I didn't see anything on it. I'll poke around a bit. The only thing that will satisfy people like TGO1 is making strong edibles like the cold medicine that is only available if you ask the cashier (or in that case, pharmacist) for it. They then could pile on the pamphlets and verbal warnings.

This article talks about the new steps in place, but again, probably not far enough to truly make a stab making them completely idiot proof: http://www.thecannabist.co/2015/01/2...s-feb-1/28775/
I'm actually 100% fine with the changes proposed in that article. They're common sense steps to make it harder to OD unless you choose to completely ignore any and all warnings. I'd be curious to hear TGO1's take on it.

There is no child-proofing going on right now with medibles in WA State. Most flowers are sold in child-proof containers, but I think the gummy bears are more at risk to that age group than a pile of leaves.
Fallen, I appreciate your sensibility and logical approach to the discussion.![]()
