American Saturday morning cartoons have been garbage for years. The networks managed to stave off extinction for a time by importing Japanese programming (Pokémon, Yu-gi-oh!, Dragon Ball, etc.) but once those stocks were exhausted there was nothing left. And frankly they were garbage before the 90s too, their earlier success was due only to the broadcast cartel.
