No one cares about BP. They've won nothing. John riggins didn't carry BP to a Super Bowl win. Doug Williams wasn't the first black qb to win a Super Bowl for BP.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Please provide another major sports franchise on the level of the Washington redskins that changed their brand name and continued on with success.
    Baltimore Ravens.

Teams change their names too. I just gave you an example of a major company changing their image to fit the times. If you want a list of major sports teams that have changed names, that's even easier. Most recently, we have the new orleans hornets becoming the pelicans last year. The charlotte bobcats became the hornets. The devil rays became the rays. The oilers are now the titans. Bullets became the wizards. The rockets are now the nuggets. It happens all the fucking time. Going back in history, teams have changed racist caricatures and logos regularly. The Philadelphia Warriors dropped their caricature of an Indian as their logo, adopting instead an image of a bridge. The name wasn't inherently racist, but the imagery was so it was changed. There are boatloads of examples. Changing the name "redskins" isn't going to destroy the franchise, so quit whining about it.

Here's the list of name changes without a team moving:

But seriously, how ridiculous is this? It's like I've been getting away with being a piece of shit for years and now someone has the balls to call me on it? How un-American is that!?

No one is going to skip Pierre garçon or Alfred Morris in their fantasy drafts because they play for the "offensive" redskins. It's a fucking mascot.
So which is it? The fans don't give a damn and it's just a "fucking mascot," or it's the most important thing ever and would destroy the franchise if it were changed?

I disagree. The Indians are my favorite baseball team, but you won't catch me wearing any of their merchandise because of that terrible caricature they have for a mascot. If they changed it, it would just be another reason for me to love them.

You missed the point in my statement that said on the level of the Washington redskins. They're one of the great franchises of the nfl. Those teams you mentioned are dogshit teams. With the redskins winning legacy and the fact that they're one of the most profitable teams in sports, you cannot blame the owner for not wanting to change the name.

I'm looking at this from a business stand point. Feelings and emotions aren't involved. Pure logic and reasoning baby.

Were the browns profitable before they moved to Baltimore? How many Super Bowls had they won in Cleveland? Again, if this were a team that didn't have a winning history, like the Houston texans, I'd say go for it.
