I don't let other people dictate what's right and wrong to me. If 90% of people are okay with a slur, it's still a slur. So don't use it.

It's still ridiculous to claim that people who don't care are in favor of a thing. I'm undecided who I'll vote for in the next Presidential primary. That doesn't mean I'm going to immediately vote for a Republican or campaign for them.

If only that were true in America. It just isn't.

I saw an opinion piece with a false equivalency as the conclusion. I certainly don't suggest that the Chicago Blackhawks change their name. It isn't a slur though.

    Well here are some articles.

    Richard Sherman:

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman is known for speaking his mind, and now he's calling out the NFL for its racism in the wake of the NBA's Donald Sterling incident.

    U.S. House of Representatives:

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), a ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has called for a congressional hearing on the word “Redskins.”

    N.Y. State Assembly:

The name ‘Redskins’ has taken another hit.

On Monday, the New York State Assembly unanimously passed a resolution saying that professional sports teams should end their use of racial slurs. The resolution specifically denounces the Washington football team's name and urges team owner Daniel Snyder to pick a new one.

    U.S. Senate:

Just days after the New York State Assembly unanimously passed a resolution denouncing “Redskins” as a racial slur, 50 U.S. Senators have put pressure on the NFL to stand on the “right side of history” and change the team’s name. In a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the senators urged the league to officially support changing the team’s name.

    Native American Journalists:
There’s a huge white lie that should be brought to Dan Snyder’s attention.

George Preston Marshall, the first owner of the Washington football team, did not pick the name ‘Redskins’ to honor the Native Americans on the team (back in 1933) or to honor William “Lone Star” Dietz, their “Native” coach, as Snyder and others have claimed.

    NCAI

In what appeared to be a clandestine move to garner support from Native American leaders, an intermediary for the Washington Redskins on Thursday contacted the leader of a small Nevada tribe and invited him to Washington, D.C., for a news media event with team owner Daniel Snyder.

According to USA TODAY Sports, Chairman Joseph Holley of the Battle Mountain Band of Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Indians declined the invite. The person who contacted Holley allegedly called on behalf of the team from a Corona, California-based company, representatives of the National Congress of Americans said. NCAI broke the news last week.

Again, people are saying TONS of them are upset by it. I am posting shit saying most of them don't care, and the even create their own schools with Redskins mascots.

Okay Cwwolf, so you posted a bunch of links to Non-Natives bitching about it, the two to a couple Natives and a conspiracy theory. Okay?

Hell, I could always point out that I have some Native blood in me too (My Grandpa's Grandmother was full blood) and use that in some sort of political stance, right? I'm not, because I don't consider myself to be native... But I COULD DAMN IT!

There is a difference between basic human rights and the name of a sports team... A name that the same Natives use for their High School sports teams.

    How about the Oneida nation?

Representatives of the Oneida Nation met Wednesday in New York with executives from the National Football League -- but not NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell or Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder.

Ray Halbritter, a representative for the Oneida, said he gave NFL vice presidents Adolpho Birch, Paul Hicks and Jeff Pash a letter and a study on the effects of the Redskins name.
"We were somewhat disappointed to say it mildly that they continued to defend the use of the slur," he said. "It really does require us to redouble our efforts in dealing with this issue."Oneida

You've really got me. Only 12.1% of the population is black. They obviously shouldn't care about racial slurs. Neither should we. I mean they use the word in their music!
